Any man who afflicts the human race with ideas must be prepared to see them misunderstood
- H. L. Mencken
This page describes some topics for which I have a keen and possibly morbidly-sick interest. These subjects are not not necessarily the most popular reading material, but I put them here for those who might find them intriguing or have pondered these questions themselves. The level of writing, concomitant with my level of understanding is somewhere in the beginner to intermediate range on all of these issues, from an academic point of view. However, I still attempt to address them as seriously as I can. I have done some basic research on these issues, but I am still far from able to fathom all the intricate and complex technical details that would be required for a deeper analysis. Nonetheless, I hope that readers will give my thoughts all the consideration they are due... as the revered Dr. Spock would say. Please email me your comments, reactions, suggestions, thoughts, feelings, and phobias. In the quest for knowledge and understanding, everything helps. Just don't go nuts and send me completely off-the-wall, oddball, lunatic ravings or maniacal speeches. I don't mind taking Excedrin, but I'll pass on the lobotomy... for now.

Function Based Encryption - This is an encryption algorithm I developed several years ago. I was reading about a simple symmetric encryption system called Caesar's cipher when I came upon this idea.
The Venice Site - This is a travel-related site that I have put together for Venice, California. It lists various places to stay and things to do. You'll also find compilations of other useful and fun sites that I've found interesting or that have been referred to me.
Time - This is an essay on the nature of Time. I have long been curious about this elusive entity. From the ancient philosophers to modern theoretical astrophysicists and mathematicians, the essence of Time itself has been a most intriguing subject. With some analysis and reflection upon this matter, I attempt to form a plausible definition, as well as argue some points relating to issues where I find conflict between a logical comprehension of the essence of time and the understanding of the nature of time as espoused by the theories of relativity.
On the Existence of God - This is a loose collection of thoughts and arguments discussing this issue. I believe that God exists, and that there are logical arguments that give rational proof of God's existence, forcing any reasonable person to accept the conclusions therein, as demanded by logic. The use of logic merely guides us away from contradictions, leading us on a more certain path toward truth and knowledge. I attempt to show that God does indeed exist, and that most persons claiming to be atheists are actually agnostics. Please reply via email. If I find your contribution interesting, I will post it as appropriate.
The Theory of Relativity - This is also a loose collection of thoughts on various issues concerning the Theory of Relativity. I have long been curious about physical effects of motion on the properties of a body. Certain parts of this discussion are closely related to the essay on Time, above. But here, I place greater attention on the nature of light instead of time. The Theory of Relativity claims that the two are intrinsically linked by one of nature's more subliminal forces, commonly known as gravity, but I argue that these entities have no such relationship. I hope this will be an ongoing discussion, and I will post replies as I see fit.
The Estate Collection - This site showcases artworks made by people with AIDS. In the summer of 1998, I worked on the LUNA ImageServer application utilized by the website. The ImageServer application is an advanced DHTML website that allows a user to inspect images in a GUI environment and obtain database information on the artists. This project was done for a company called Luna Imaging, which contracted the work to Technical Empowerment. Technical Empowerment is owned and run by Dr. Tony Karrer, a professor at LMU. The LUNA ImageServer Application is formally known as the Luna Insight Browser Application. A JAVA version of the software is also available for businesses and non-profit organizations.
