Characters
Aladdin: Aladdin grew up a street rat in the city of Agrabah. He spent his days scraping for food, ducking palace guards, it was a hard, hard life for Aladdin...
Until a beautiful princess, an evil sorcerer and a magic lamp changed his life forever! Now Aladdin is engaged to the Princess of Agrabah and goes on a new and exciting adventure every day.
Aladdin later discovers that his father is the King of the 40 Thieves, but this discovery does not happen until the third movie of the Aladdin Trillogy, Aladdin & The King Of Thieves.
Princess Jasmine: Princess Jasmine is not your average third century Arabian Princess. When Suiters come from afar, Jasmine rejects them all, saying "When I marry, I want it to be for love, not some stupid law."
Jasmine runs away, fed up with having her life lived for her. Naive to the world outside the palace walls, Jasmine steals a piece of fruit from a vendor's cart and hands it to a starving child. This is how she meets Aladdin, for he saves her from having to 'pay the price'.
We see Aladdin and Jasmine hit it right off. However, when Jasmine meets Prince Ali, not knowing that it is Aladdin, she sees him as another stuck-up prince.
Although Jasmine is beautiful, she does not lack brains or the ability to stand up for what she believes in. Don't cross Princess Jasmine, she is strong and has a man-eating tiger for a pet.
Rajah: Rajah is basically Princess Jasmine's protector. Until Jas met Aladdin, he was the only real friend she had. Rajah is as loyal to Jasmine as a hound is to its master. He will tear anybody apart who tries to harm her, but he is very friendly to anybody who is friends with Jasmine. In other words, any friend of Jasmine's is a friend of his.
Abu: Abu is Aladdin's monkey and one of his best friends. Aladdin and Abu met before the dawning of the first Aladdin movie. Abu used to work for three con artists, picking pockets while they performed for the people of the town. Aladdin, too, worked for them, until he realized that he was stealing from people who weren't much better off than him.
Abu has a quick hand and still can't resist when it comes to jewls or fruit. Abu does not speak in regular human language, but sometimes, you can understand what he is saying.
Genie: After ten thousand years in the lamp, way down in the Cave of Wonders, Genie was freed by Aladdin. Aladdin promised he would give up his third wish and free the Genie. However, Aladdin thought that without the Genie he was nothing. The lamp was then stolen by Jafar. However, after defeating Jafar, Aladdin decides that there are more important things than being a prince and frees the Genie.
The Genie still hangs out with Aladdin and the gang. He is their comic relief and still has semi-finaminal nearly-cosmic powers.
Carpet: Carpet met Aladdin in the Cave of Wonders when Aladdin went to fetch the magic lamp. We can tell when Genie is released that he and Carpet knew each other for a long time.
Carpet is always there to lend a helping...tassel. He doesn't speak, but we always know how he feels.
The Sultan: The Sultan appears to be not-so-bright. He is easily minipulated, as we saw in the first Aladdin movie.
This isn't a knock against our beloved Sultan of Agrabah. Although naive, he is very kind-hearted and since he enjoys his toys, he knows a lot about them, as we saw in the first Aladdin episode that featured Machanikles.
Jafar: Jafar is an evil and power-hungry sorceror. He was once The Sultan's Royal Vasir and most trusted Advisor, until the Sultan found out that Jafar had been controlling him with a hypnotic snake staff.
Jafar wished to be Sultan, then to be a powerful Sorceror. But unfortunately for him, Aladdin tricked him into wishing to be a Genie. He was then conceiled inside his lamp, until he was freed in The Return of Jafar.
In The Return of Jafar, Jafar returns for revenge. He captures Jasmine, the Sultan, Carpet, Abu and Genie, then poses as Princess Jasmine and sentences Aladdin to be executed for the murder of the Sultan.
Since Jafar is a Genie, the only way to destroy him is to destroy his magic lamp. Once Jafar's lamp falls into a pit of hot lava that he created, it's curtains for the evil Genie.
Iago: Iago was Jafar's sidekick, until Return on Jafar, when Iago is fed up with the way Jafar treats him.
Iago is a greedy loud mouth, but we learn in Return of Jafar, the second Aladdin movie, that Iago does have a heart, even though he is afraid to show it.
Since Iago is a parrot, he can immitate voices perfectly. In one episode of the Aladdin TV series, Iago immitates Mozenrath and tells Mozenrath's monster to "beat it and never return".
