Kroenen approached Gestapo headquarters.
At this point he no longer cared if people saw him or not. The
end was so close now. He walked out in the open in broad daylight
defiantly. Only a few more things he needed to do to ensure victory.
Heydrich and Halle were in Heydrich's office talking like best
friends. Kroenen went inside and made his way to the office then
knocked on the door.
"I'll get it." Heydrich said standing up to get the
door. "Kroenen? Come in." Heydrich said as he opened
the door. Kroenen went in. He looked at Halle remembering what
he had to do later then at Heydrich.
"Mein Herr, I have one last thing I must do to help Germany
through this war."
"What would that be?" Heydrich asked looking back at
Halle also and grinning a bit.
"I shall bring weapons to you from the future that will ensure
our victory. These will need to be distributed to all the regiments."
Kroenen said calmly.
"I suppose that's where I come in." Heydrich said. "I
don't mind. I want the victory. Its more important we win than
me sitting here worrying about people who can't do anything to
affect our winning."
"I can deliver them at anytime and any place you wish."
Kroenen said.
Heydrich thought about a good place for a minute
"You and your men must be extremely careful when handling
some of these. The destructive power of these weapons is far
beyond anything today even beyond that of which your enemies have.
Imagine whipping out whole nations in one blast, and artillery
that fires faster and longer than anything you have ever seen."
Heydrich's eyes widened.
"I'll make sure to make that clear to them."
Kroenen would have been smiling if he could have. "Very
well then."
Heydrich went over to his desk. "I should call up Rommel
and von Kleist and all of them so they can get the regiments together."
"Yes that would be a good idea." Kroenen said as he
walked over to Halle. "How are you my dear?" He said
to her.
"I'm great." She said looking at Heydrich quickly. She
lowered her voice. "We've gotten along so well. I really
do love Heydrich. I just don't know when to tell him."
"I do not know if it would be wise, but your time is limited.
Follow your heart." Kroenen looked left then right almost
as if he were nervous that someone would see him as he placed
his hand in the pocket of his coat. Halle nodded.
"I know what I'll do." She said. Kroenen kneeled down
to get at her eye level as she was sitting down.
"You know?" He said in a low tone. "I am the
one that got you
him out of Hell and gave you a second chance
with a new life. I have something I want you to have."
"What's that?" She said as pulled her uniform straight
like usual. Kroenen pulled his hand out of his pocket. It was
in a fist but then he opened it. In his metal palm was a gold
ring shaped like an eagle. It was Germany's eagle. Its wings
wrapped around forming the band and it was detailed down to the
last feather.
"Here, so you'll always remember this. This ring was forged
in one of the seven cities of gold in Hell."
Halle gasped.
"Its beautiful! I love it!" she said. Heydrich looked
up for a minute then went back to calling von Kleist.
"Good, then it's yours." Kroenen said as he stood up
when he heard another knock at the door.
"Thank you so much." Halle said happily placing it on
her right hand. Heydrich answered the door. It was Rommel.
"Heydrich, I can get the regiments organized in about two
hours." He said and began to converse. Kroenen turned and
for the first time Rommel got a good view of him. Rommel looked
up, a bit freaked out at the frightening face that went along
with the round glowing eyes he had previously seen.
"It's good to see you are well." Kroenen said to Rommel
as he walked up to him. It was clear that this Nazi was not human.
Rommel backed into the now closed door.
"Are
you the one who saved me?" He stammered.
"Yes that is correct." Kroenen said. "He took
another step forward but noticed that Rommel didn't want to be
near him. Kroenen looked away.
"Forgive me but I had no choice but to kill those men."
Rommel leaned against the door, and hoped no one would open them,
or he'd be on the ground.
"Its okay. I'm glad you did. What's your name?" He
noticed Heydrich wasn't afraid.
"That was very rude of me to run off and leave you afterwards.
My name is Karl Kroenen. I am here to help with the war."
Kroenen said once again looking back at him. The thought of
the incident in the street brought back a surge of emotion and
again Kroenen unknowingly flashed his eyes with a crimson light.
Rommel stopped being afraid then put a on nice grin.
"Feldmarschall Erwin Rommel. Thanks for saving me, again."
He said.
"It was an honor to have done so." Kroenen said in
a pleasant tone glad to see the fear leaving Rommel. There
was a click as the doorknob turned and Rommel fell backward just
as he had feared. Von Kleist had opened the door and barely caught
Rommel and he fell backwards.
"WOE!!" Rommel said. Kroenen and von Kleist helped
him to his feet, though his old friend von Kleist couldn't help
but laugh.
"Doors are not walls, Rommel." He said jokingly then
looked at Heydrich, "Heydrich, I can be ready in about an
hour and a half." He said somewhat out of breath as he'd
gotten there as quickly as he could. Kroenen's eyes held a constant
soft red glow. He was very excited and couldn't believe he was
in a room with all these people he had admired in life.
"Good. Ill tell you where to send them." Heydirch said.
"Shall I go with von Kleist then, sir?" Kroenen asked
Heydrich.
"Yes. His regiments will be ready faster." Heydrich
explained. Kroenen nodded and saluted then followed von Kleist.
The weapons were delivered to the storehouses. The arsenal was unlike anything the world had ever seen before. These truly were weapons of mass destruction. Rommel busily assembled the regiments in a local field where Heydrich and him would hand out the new modern weapons. Kroenen watched as everything was put into place. It would not be long now. Rommel and Heydrich warned each soldier to be careful as they handed the weapons out. The first order of duty was to push the Brits out and back into their own country.
After handing them out Heydrich went
back to his office and changed into his Luftwaffe uniform and
headed for the airbase. With the new machine guns, rocket launchers
and targeting systems the Germans began to push out the British.
Forces on the west began to take back France from the Americans.
Heydrich joined a bomber group of Heinkel 111's, for air support
in France. The first mission was successful. Slowly yet surely
the enemy was being driven out on all fronts. The German territories
were expanding. How the tied of battle had turned. Rommel's
Afrika Korps had gotten farther into Afrika than ever before.
Frenchmen ran around screaming as their cities were bombed.
The Arc of Triumph was shattered into a million pieces.
"Whoops." Heydrich said, shrugging.
Next on the list was the Eiffel tower. It was split in half like
a cheap hair-pin.
"And once again I didn't fail to destroy something."
Heydrich said enjoying himself. Paris was a light with flames
as blood and bad wine flowed into the streets and down the sewers.
Heydrich ordered the bomber group back to their base to refuel
and reload the bombs.
"Bomben auf Frankreich!" He mumbled.
Kroenen watched it all. He was in tune
with everything going on. This was a proud moment for the fatherland.
Everything was changing. Everything had changed already. Kroenen
loved Germany too much to let it lose.
From his office Hitler was practically cheering. He remembered
his days of fighting in the Great War and he wished to do so again.
Excitedly he grabbed a gun and made for the door. The moment
he opened it he came face to face with Kroenen.
"Oh it's you again. Don't just stand there let me pass!"
Hitler said in a strong tone. Kroenen just glared at him.
"I can not do that. It is my duty to make sure your remain
safe. I have worked too hard to save your life and that of the
others which history would have by now have claimed. No mein
Führer, I must make sure you and the rest remain alive so
that you may lead us into the new era after the war."
Himmler looked at Heydrich, who had just
landed.
"I thought you learned you lesson when the Führer gave
you a public reprimand!!!" Himmler shouted. Heydrich didn't
respond, but gave him a look and glared with his ice cold eyes.
Heydrich then went to his office and changed into the normal uniform.
"I'm going to pick Halle up at my home and go out to celebrate
my destruction of things. You'll see." Heydrich said leaving
Himmler staring in disbelief at his disrespect.
"WHAT?!? How can you do this??
I am the Führer! You must obey me!" Hitler screamed.
Kroenen placed his hand against Hitler's shoulder stopping him
as he tried to pass though him again.
"Yes you are but I can not do as you say no matter how much
I may want to. Your safety is my first concern. I will see my
mission through to the end." As difficult as that was Kroenen
finally said it. His eyes began to glow letting Hitler know he
meant business.
Heydrich brought Halle to his office
first. Her uniform had all the medals and ribbon bars on it and
the medals were shined. She had her Luger pistol at her side
just in case of course, and had polished her jackboots enough
to reflect light. After putting some things away in the office
Heydrich and Halle went to a fancy cafe on the PrinzAlbrecht Straße
to celebrate his bombing run. They sat at a window looking out
at the street. It began to flurry.
"Heydrich?" Halle said quietly.
"Yes?" He replied.
"I want you to know something before I go, and I figure now
is the best time for it." There was some hurt in her voice
as she said "before I go", but she swallowed it and
remembered it was better that she left.
"What is it?" Heydrich questioned.
"Well." She said. "I have to tell you how much
I really do love you. And I'm serious. You may not love me back,
but it doesn't matter to me at the moment. I just needed to tell
you." She explained. Heydrich looked at her for a minute.
"I'm glad you told me. I admit I love you back." Heydrich
replied. He took off his SS ring and put it down in front of
her on the table.
"I want you to have it. I don't care what Himmler says about
giving it away." Heydrich said, grinning. "And wear
it on the left. People will figure you're taken, and you'll be
free for when we meet in another life." He said. She put
it on, and smiled at Heydrich. He'd given her something he was
ordered by the Reichsführer not to give away.
"I owe him. I know what to do." She thought.
In the office Hitler's angry face became
a smiling one.
"Tell me Kroenen, the out come of the war is sure to be our
victory is it not?" He asked him. Kroenen nodded.
"It is now. It was not before. France has fallen as has
Russia. All our enemies the Americans and the British have been
taken care of. The world is ours in a matter of hours."
Kroenen said.
"Good, then I am going to give a new order. That weapon
you told me about...that nuclear missile. I want it sent to Japan.
I never trusted them as partners and I believe it is time to
pay them for all their 'help'." Hitler said holding back
a laugh.
Heydrich and Halle started to leave the cafe and went out to his car. Halle couldn't hold in the urge anymore, and stopped. Heydrich looked back at her wondering what was wrong. The snow was falling all around ever so gently. Their breath was visible in the wind and everything just seemed to be perfect. She threw her arms around him and kissed him somewhat shocking him. They embraced, and held each other warmly while their surroundings were cold and beautiful. It felt wonderful as though they were one and in a sense they were.
Under the order of the Führer the
nuclear weapons were targeted and fired at Japan. With the force
and intensity of two 21st century technology missiles Japan was
whipped off the face of the earth. The island nation was sunk
below the waves going the way of Atlantis. Word spread fast of
this incredible event and all enemies pulled out on all fronts
after this incredible show of might. All enemies of the Reich
retreated and surrender. Germany had won the war. Oberscharführer
Klein heard of the event on the car radio.
"Herr Heydrich, have you heard? We won!!" He practically
shouted.
Heydrich's mouth dropped as he and Halle looked up in disbelief
from their embrace. Surprise quickly gave way to joy. The two
twirled each other around making a circle in the snow. They kissed
each other quickly then got in the car, and went back to Gestapo
headquarters.
Hitler was overjoyed at the news and
placed his arm around Kroenen nearly knocking his hat off and
she was shoved forward.
"WE DID IT!! WE DID IT!! We owe all this to you!! A celebration
is in order." He picked up the telephone.
"Yes, get ALL my generals together I must give another speech!!"
Heydrich and Halle ran up to Heydrich's
office and called some people up. Heydrich called Walter Schellenberg
the Major General of the SD. Halle called up Admiral Wilhelm
Canaris who had been Heydrich's superior when he was in the Kreigsmarine
to tell them the excellent news.
Kroenen couldn't believe it himself. He'd never felt so excited
before. In the streets Destina heard Kroenen's call. Both her
and Sahel had been summoned now that their mission had come to
an end.
After a large rally for the whole country Hitler invited all his
top generals to one of his famous castles on the Rhine to celebrate
and to congratulate Kroenen as their guest of honor. The atmosphere
inside was so relaxed with food and drinks at every table. Hitler
smiled as he shook hands with everyone. Heydrich and Halle arrived
after everyone else. Rommel, von Kleist, the admirals, Kretschmer,
Himmler, and Schellenberg were all there. Heydrich shook some
of the snow off his coat as he entered. Himmler noticed Heydrich's
ring was missing, but shrugged, shook his head, and mumbled "That's
Heydrich." And grinned. Hitler saw them come in and walked
up to them.
"So Heydirch, you did it again!" He said sternly as
she stared hard at Heydrich. "You had to go off and fly
into battle, didn't you?"
Heydrich's eyes widened.
"How did you know about it?" He said.
Hitler couldn't hold the face any longer and bust out laughing
and placed his hand on Heydrich's shoulder.
"How else do you think? I've taken up Himmler's ways."
He said winking at Himmler. "I had an occultist tell me.
Kroenen told me, he knew exactly what was going on. Oh look
there he is now." Hitler said while point and holding a
glass of wine in his hand. Kroenen was surrounded by a crowd
of people congratulating him and it was clear he wanted to get
away from them. Heydrich eased up from the freaked out state
he was in. "Ooh
I get it. Himmler." He laughed
after that glad that the Führer wasn't upset at him after
all. "You know, you had me for a while I thought you were
going to reprimand me again," Heydrich said, laughing a bit
again. "Sorry I'm late though." He said, grinning as
Halle brought a bunch of cream puffs from somewhere. "Cream
puffs." Heydrich said happily.
Kroenen slipped out of the crowd and tried to find a quiet place,
but there looked to be none. Sahel just growled at anyone that
got near him and Destina wasn't getting any attention she just
leaned against a wall with her arms crossed and bored.
"What do you say we all go and congratulate our guest of
honor. He looks like he could use it." Hitler said as he
noticed Kroenen trying to get away. The crowd of Heydrich's acquaintances
cheered lifting wine or beer glasses. Hitler motioned for them
to follow him as Kroenen slipped out into the courtyard. The
night was bright filled with a thousand stars. The castled was
dark with only a few windows lit and looked like a shadow in the
night. Kroenen leaned on a rail looking down as the others approached
him.
"There you are," Hitler said. "You know we owe
all of this too you."
Halle noticed Destina leaning against
the wall. She slipped away from the crowd and went over to her.
"What's wrong?" Halle asked concerned. Destina looked
up and smiled at her then pointed by nodding her head towards
the crowd talking to Kroenen.
"He's amazing isn't he?" She said. Halle nodded in
agreement.
"Yeah." She said smiling back. "I'm so glad he
saved Heydrich."
"I'm very happy for him. He loves his country so much.
I don't think I've ever seen him like this. Despite his uneasiness
at all these people I can see he's very happy. I've always wanted
to make him happy." She said with a longing look in her
green eyes.
"Did you ever think of telling him? I think I know how you're
feeling. I don't know, but I had feelings for Heydrich and I
told him. I don't know if you feel anything like that for Kroenen,
but. . . " Halle stopped and sighed, looking at Heydrich's
SS ring. "If you did eventually tell him, something good
could come out of it."
Destina stared at her moment surprised.
"Is it that obvious? Yes, I do have feelings for him. I
care for him deeply yet I don't know how to tell him. I worry
that if I did he'd turn against me. Because of that all I've
done is try my best to serve him." She sighed clearly bothered
by her situation.
"Well, from the look in your eyes." Halle said keeping
a small smile on her face. "When you do know if the feeling
is real follow your intuition on what you should do after. That's
what I did with Heydrich. I wasn't sure how he'd react, but then
he gave me his SS honors ring and told me he loved me back. So
it wasn't too bad." Halle explained. "I'll be here only
a short time longer, so I had to take my chances but like I said
do you what you feel is right."
Destina smiled.
"That's great. We've worked together for decades. Perhaps
one day I will finally get the courage to tell him. Despite being
a machine he still has his human emotions."
Halle smiled back.
"And before I do have to go thank you for accidentally bringing
me here. If it weren't for you I wouldn't have gotten to see
Heydrich and tell him. Even in my time period I wished I could
tell him and now he knows. It's great." Halle said happily.
Destina laughed a little when she heard that.
"Well I'm glad some good came of it. You're welcome. You
know I think I want to congratulate Kroenen myself. Why let the
boys have all the fun?" She said. The moment she pushed
herself off the wall then the ground began to tremble. Halle
fell toward her and Destina caught her. People dropped their
drinks and tables fell.
"What's going on??!!" Destina yelled. Outside on the
Veranda the shaking was even worse. Heydrich ran in to the room
to check if Halle was alright since he had noticed she had gotten
away
"Ahh! What's going on!" Halle shouted over the chaos.
"Oh no. OH NO this can't be good!" Destina said.
Outside Kroenen fell to the ground. Hitler ran over to help him
up but was stopped as the ground before him cracked open and began
to widen as a chasm formed between them both. He stuck his hand
out to him but Kroenen was now too far to reach as they were separated.
Otto Kretschmer, the Uboat ace, ran in to Heydrich, Destina, and
Halle. He was in a complete frenzy.
"Kroenen...crack between Hitler
and tried to save him
falling..
." Otto said out of breath.
"Otto, what are you talking about??" Heydrich said,
confused. "Speak in full sentences." Otto restarted.
"Kroenen was falling somewhere the ground split and the Führer
tried to save him but couldn't it's a freaking chaos out there!!!"
Otto was having somewhat of a mental breakdown trying to explain
what had happened.
Hitler tried to keep his balance and
yelled back at the others in the castle.
"Well don't just stand there we have to help him!!"
The crack finally stopped widening. Just when it seemed that
it had finally calmed down things took a turn for the worse.
A surge of searing magma burst into the air and from it two monstrous
skeletal wings seemed to open up. Hitler was thrown back and
away from it. The heat in the place rose drastically and then
a horrible roar was heard as the creature at last showed itself.
It was a huge seven to eight foot skeletal demon with ram horns
and a thin tail tipped with a black metal star. The crowds stared
in awe at it. Some tried to approach it trying to do anything
to save Kroenen. The hideous fiery sight was reflected in Hitler's
obsidian eyes as he stared up at it.
"This can't be good." Heydrich mumbled pulling Halle
over to him.
"No. Oh no! It's our master Thagirion." Destina
said worried. "He went by many names but in this age he
was most well known as The Devil or Satan."
His wicked red eyes scanned over the onlookers then he swiveled
in mid flight and turned his deadly gaze on Kroenen.
"SO this be thy doing?!?" He said in a screechy venomous
voice. "I give thee some lee way and thou takes advantage
of it!! Did I not tell thee not to interfere with the time line?
Thou knew better yet thou didst anyway. I've watched thee to
see how far thou would go. All the way from the looks of things!"
Kroenen pushed himself up off his stomach and onto his knees
as he looked up at Thagirion.
"Forgive me master. I couldn't help it, not after what I'd
seen upon my return. But won't this new wicked timeline help
your master plan in the end? Won't it help further it along?"
"Oh no. " Heydrich said "Would Thagirion kill
everyone?" He thought out loud.
"I hope not." Halle said.
"SILENCE!! How dare thou question ME!!" Thagirion roared
as he landed and back- handed Kroenen. The blow was so powerful
that he was sent through the air several feet before coming down
hard. Destina screamed horrified.
"KROENEN!!!!! NO DON'T HURT HIM!!"
Halle and Heydrich gasped as silently as possible. They were
terrified. They huddled in a corner, Otto still there with them
in shock.
"I'm sorry, please forgive me. I was..." Before Kroenen
could finish Thagirion opened his jaws sending out a spray of
fire that engulfed him. Kroenen screamed out in agony and tried
to crawl away. Destina yelled and began to cry. Sahel lowered
his head in sorrow. Thagirion walked over to him and kicked him
in the ribs with several metal parts flying out as he did so.
Hitler got up again and ran inside for a gun.
"If no one won't do anything then I will!!"
Heydrich watched all the chaos and then turned away. It was too
much for him to watch. He thought back to the assassination day
again. Then he saw Hitler go for a gun.
"Oh no! He's not going to..." Heydrich trailed off.
Hitler found a small machine gun and ran back to the rift. When
he got there he found Kroenen lying on the ground in flames as
Thagirion continued to pummel him. Angry he opened fire on Thagirion.
Himmler pulled a small book out of his jacket. He flipped to
just after the middle and started saying something in German.
He tried to cast a spell to deter Thagirion and then felt a chill
go down his spine when nothing happened after he'd recited his
incantation. Thagirion looked up as he felt the spell sent his
way. These pathetic beings could not even get that right. Annoyed
by the humans more than anything else Thagirion turned on them.
With a wave of his hand Hitler's machine gun began to heat up
and turn red. He couldn't hold it and had to drop it. It melted
into a silver metal blob as it hit the ground. Thagirion looked
at Himmler and let out what sounded like a demonic laugh.
"Pathetic! None of thee are supposed to be here! So thou
wants him so badly?" The demon screeched referring to Kroenen
as he pointed back at the burning body that tried to crawl away.
"Have him!" He said as he lifted Kroenen and tossed
him back over the ravine. He rolled and then stopped face down
not far from the castle. The flames that raked over his body
finally went out.
Himmler turned red with embarrassment
and rage. He ran over to see where Kroenen had landed. He turned
Kroenen over and saw the heavy damage he had sustained. His face
was dented inward, one of his eyes was cracked and there were
burns all over him.
"Oh no." He said softly still holding his spell book
in his right hand. He looked at it for help but knew there were
no spells inside that would heal Kroenen. It never accounted
for such a situation. Heydrich then ran over remembering the
assassination day. Kroenen had saved him twice and helped him
countless times. He still owed him and he went over to do what
he could.
"I have to do something" He thought. Halle ran after
him. "You stay back there!" Heydrich shouted.
"No, I won't. If you're dying I'll die with you." Halle
shouted back a determined look on her face that she was staying
with Heydrich. They went down to where Himmler and Kroenen were
and crouched down with them. Destina screamed out and went to
them as well. She cried lifting Kroenen's head and placing it
in her lap. Tear rolled down her face. Halle felt terrible enough
as it was and could only imagine what Destina was feeling. All
of them were powerless to do anything.
Thagirion roared loudly freezing everyone in their tracks.
"You will die at the end of the war as planned." He
said pointing at Hitler. Hitler then vanished. He then pointed
at Himmler.
"You shall betray your land like the coward you are."
He disappeared as well and Thagirion did this with all in the
room. One by one they all disappeared as he set his timeline
back to the way it was. His bony finger then pointed at Heydrich.
Heydrich stood in place, a calm look on his face despite the
chaos.
"Don't forget me Halle." He said waiting to disappear
like the rest did.
"You shall die shot to death in a cowardly act." Thagirion
said and Heydrich vanished. Now only Destina, Sahel, Kroenen
and Halle remained. Destina was crying. She so wanted to do
something but knew better for they all worked for Thagirion.
"These three be mine." Thagirion said and made them
disappear as well. Now only he and Halle remained in a dark
space. The castle, the sky and the land had vanished they were
both alone in the dark. Tears formed in Halle's eyes and she
tried to shake some off. It was too cowardly for her to do this
now. She didn't dare speak fearing what would happen to her.
But she didn't have to Thagirion spoke first.
"And thou! Thou doth not even belong here. Lucky for thee
it be not thy time...yet." He waved his hand and Halle vanished
too.
She awoke alone in her room still on
the floor from the regression that she had done. It had seemed
like a dream so unreal and could have been dismissed as such except
for one thing. She felt something on her hand. There was a gold
eagle ring on it. Looking at the left, there was an SS ring on
it. Instead of the Reichsführer's name on the inside, Heydrich's
full name was inscribed, Reinhard Eugen Tristan Heydrich, and
his dates. 1904-1942.
The wind blew and her curtains were thrown up like two shadow
hands reaching for her. In the corner of her room in the dark
she thought she felt a presence.
"Heydrich?" she called. Could it be Heydrich? She
thought. She wandered over to the corner.
"No, it is I...Kroenen." Kroenen stepped out into the
dim light. His face had returned to normal, somehow repaired.
Despite it's expressionless form Halle thought she could see
sorrow in his eyes. "I'm so sorry for everything that happened."
He said as he kneeled down next to her. She looked down.
"It's okay. He died knowing that I loved him. And I still
do. And I have something to remember both of you by."
He reached for her hand but his passed right through hers.
"That is my punishment for interfering with the world of
the living. I cannot interact physically with it for another
hundred years. Just know that reality did happen. Only you and
I know of it."
She nodded.
"I understand. I wont tell anyone of it either. No one
needs to know."
"Good." He said then cocked his head. "All that
work...all that we did will not be in vein though. I shall return
to Hell and strive to become more powerful. Once I do then I
shall once again work with the powers of time and split that reality
off again. Know that when you die we shall be waiting for you
to return to us...to OUR Germany where the war is won and we all
live forever in the New Reich."
She nodded again.
"Can you tell me if Heydrich is okay?"
"He is, and he waits for your return. Live your life and
enjoy it and then we will all be reunited. I swear it!"
He said. "My time grows short. Again my master knows
not what I do. Is there anything you'd like to say?"
"Can you tell Heydrich that I still love him
that I
won't forget him and that I won't betray him?" She asked.
"He knows. The dead hear the thoughts of the living when
they think of them...but I shall tell him anyway." He stood
and began to back away slowly.
"Thank you." She said going to sit back on the bed again.
She stopped suddenly.
"Wait! I just thought of something." She said.
"Yes? What is it." Kroenen asked.
"I'm not quite sure how to put this but, Destina loved you.
I never found out if she knew if it was real or not, but I just
thought I'd let you know that we talked about it."
"Destina? I...I never knew that." He paused taken
by this news. It had never occurred to him, but now her unfailing
loyalty made so much more sense. "Thank you for telling
me. Enjoy your new life and I shall see you again."
"I will. And I'll see you too." She went back to the
bed to watch as he left. She took out a picture of Heydrich
from the drawer near the bed. "And I'll see you too."
She thought, staring at the picture. Kroenen went back to the
corner. Smoke rose up around him and he was gone. The wind died
down and it was finally over...for now.
The End.
