Ladislav Beran

This page is here to give credit where credit is due. When Hellboy was advertised the mentioned Hellboy's actor, Liz's actor, Rasputin's actor....but what about Kroenen?? Why wasn't his actor mentioned? Kroenen was the coolest character there! Was it because he wasn't a big budget name? Was it because he didn't get a speaking part? (Another thing that really irks me.) Well we give him credit here. Folks, meet Ladislav Beran the Czech actor who played our favorite character. Ladislav, if you by some chance come across my little site, thank you! You did a great job in the film. Hope to see you again if there's a Hellboy 2. Enjoy these rare backstage shots.

Here is Mr. Beran with a friend of his on a totally unrelated project.

There is an interesting story behind all the make-up Mr. Beran had to wear for the filming of the autopsy scene. Beran had very light skin and originally the make up crew was just going to paint a few veins on him to give him the corpsy look, but bein in the warmth of Spain he couldn't resist going out into the sun despite warnings from the producers. So Beran returns to the make up room with a major tan and he no longer looked corpsy. This was bad because now they had to create full body pieces to give him that white look on his surgically mutilated skin. This is part of the chest piece he had to wear during filming.

Here is Beran having the make up placed on him. Notice the difference in his skin color and that of the make up.

Here he is with nearly all the make up on. You can see the hole where his artificial heart will go. It's interesting he had to shave his head and eyebrows for this.

The final product. To me it looks like his hands are tied up though they weren't.

This is the scene from the movie.

Anothere scene from the film.

A full body dummy had to be made for some scenes in the film. Here is a make up artist working on the dummy.

The complete dummy.

Here is Del Toro showing Prof. Broom how to perform the Autopsy scene. It's interesting that on Kroenen's left side his brain is exposed. Sorry but I still like my notion of him being completely mechanical better.

The WWII scenes were the best in the film! Here's Ladislav having a good time on the set. Yeah you know you're bad! Sweet!

Here he is again having fun with a friend. I love the whole SS uniform in leather. It was through this picture that I figured out Kroenen's rank. He's an Obersturmbannführer or Lt. Col.
