How to Paint a Grey Knight

For those of you who always wandered how to paint a Grey Knight this section of the Miniature Gallery has been dedicated to you. Here is a complete guide to painting a Grey Knight, whose color is gold as specified in the Genestealer Suppliment for Space Hulk: First Edition.(See Grey Knights in Space Hulk for details)Now, on for to the lessons...

Tools: super glue, 1 Grey Knight Terminator, 1 exacto knife, 1 small brush, Shining Gold, Burnished Gold, Chaos Black, Regal Blue, Mythril Silver, Blood Angels Red, Snot Green, Skull White, Chestnut Ink, Yellow Ink, Sunburst Yellow and Flocking.

Here we have an unpainted figure. remember to clean off all mold lines and file any uneven peices, but also be carefull not to file off any details.

Next, you must prime the miniature. (obviously)

after the primer dries slap a thin coat of yellow (i used sunburst yellow)

after the yellow is dry, place a coat of shining gold. not too thick, just enough to cover the yellow.

Next is one of the most important steps; The Wash. in order to bring definition to an otherwise flatly metallic model, you must ink it with a wash to bring out the details, much in the same way of blacklineing. Wash over the entire model, but dont use too much because you risk overpowering the gold. This step is ment to accentuate, not perpetrate.

In order to bring attention to the figure and allow the minute details to shine through, you must next highlight the model. take some burnished gold and drybrush over the mini. dont go into crevaces or anything.

next, wash the figure with yellow ink.

after the yellow ink dries take some burnished gold and some mythril silver and mix it. lighten the gold till it looks more like a silver with gold tint. then highlight the miniature with it. you may find it necessary to take some chestnut ink and water it down, then dab it into crevaces to bring the highlights out. it works great.

finally, the finished product! yes! all you have to do is paint the skulls, purity seals and the halberd, and you are ready to go a-purgin!
