Disturbing news out of Connecticut about AP's stalker -
Rottie posts: who was apprehended several months ago. She may get probation
or dismissal of her charges. There was a long article in the local paper
there today. [The Journal Inquirer]. I've asked for permission to repost it
here from the woman who posted it on another list. I'll do so if she agrees.
Stay tuned. It is really disturbing news. The story is fuller and gives more
details than we heard before and it is truly frightening.

Stalker update here - Rottie posts:
<<<<<<<<<newspaper in CT [the Journal Inquirer,
Friday, May 19th] there was an article today with this headline:
COVENTRY WOMAN MAY AVOID TRIAL IN STALKING
[paraphrasing:]
First paragraph is as follows:
A Coventry woman accused of telephoning death threats to Adrian Paul,
the star of the "Highlander" television series, has a chance to avoid
being convicted without going through a trial.
With the support of federal prosecutors, the woman, Cheryl Roberts,
38, is seeking to participate in a pretrial probation program that could
lead to dismissal of her charges.
It is quite a lengthy article with an explanation of the treatment
program and how the federal probation office will study whether a
program can be devised for her which is expected to take about two
months.
It says that if a program is developed and she agrees to participate,
she will then be on probation for up to 18 months before the criminal
charges are dismissed.
The article continues to say:
Roberts has been formally charged with making five threatening telephone
calls to Paul whose full name is Adrian Paul Hewett, on two days in
February and March 1999.
This article quotes Adrian as saying in a restraining-order application
filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in February 19999 that Roberts, who
has also used the name Cheryl Hart, acquired his home and cellular
telephone numbers on Nov. 13, 1998. He said she had been leaving 20 to
30 voice-mail messages for him daily, making more than 170 calls to his
residence alone.
In addition, he said, she called his parents, leaving messages
threatening to have his mother raped and his father killed.
As he changed telephone numbers Hewett said, Roberts would acquire them
within days. He said he was forced to "arrange new telephone numbers
under names of other cooperating persons, and these numbers too were
compromised."
Hewett said Roberts also had contacted friends, family, and business
associates in the United States, Great Britain France, Italy, and South
Africa.
Roberts, he said, "Has seriously disrupted my personal and professional
life and caused no small amount of stress and frustration."
The harassing calls in 1998 and 1999 weren't the first that authorities
believe Roberts directed to Hewett. In 1996, when "Highlander" was
being filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, the production company
complained of numerous harassing telephone calls from a woman
identifying herself as Cheryl Hart at a Coventry telephone number.
In a Feb. 26, 1999, call that formed the basis for the criminal charges,
Roberts is accused of leaving a message for Hewett saying: "I'm very
good, very good with a rifle. Very good. I could kill you."
In another message that March 27, Roberts is accused of saying, "You
don't come here, because I'll put a bullet through you. . . . And when
I said I'd kill everything that you care about. . ., I mean I'd start
with your mother."

Rottie adding here:
I saw this quote today in an article on stalking and it does give one further
reason for concern. I read elsewhere however, that *often* [though not always]
the kind of "deals" Ms. Roberts is being considered for are first discussed
with the victims. We should assume that Mr. Paul is well aware of the situation
and of all the alternatives. He can handle all things well.
<<<"Arresting a stalker and then failing to imprison or prosecute
may make the problem worse for the victim, Dr. Dietz told USA Today. 'As
a general rule, it's perceived by the mentally ill stalker as a confirmation
of the relationship, and by the less seriously ill stalker, as an angering
challenge.'
Even if a case can be brought to trial and the pursuer sentenced, sooner
or later he or she will be back in circulation and will, most likely, revert
to the old behavior patterns"

Movie Article- Rottie posts: This site has an update on
its article on Highlander: Endgame.
Upcomingmovies.com Studio Spotlight: Dimension Films
http://www.upcomingmovies.com/dimension.html
Click on the title of the movie in the left hand column
The most interesting paragraph in the article is the p.s. at the bottom on
the right....
"(5/11/00) Dimension Films is now eyeing a release in late October, 2000.
(5/17/00) They've moved it back to August 25th, 2000 where they had long
had it scheduled.
Page Updated: 5/17/00"
So as of 2 days ago Dimension is again saying August. Very interesting to
see how all of this plays out. I'm holding out for October because I can
live with only so much disappointment and if I hope for August............sigh.
Also, AP says October and until he says August, I'll wait till football season.
