A
Cardassian mining station that was built in 2351 in orbit of planet Bajor during
the Cardassian occupation. The Cardassians called the station Terok Nor. Gul Dukat was the commander officer of Terok Nor from
2362 to 2369, when the Cardassians relinquished their claim on Bajor and retreated
from the region. A short time after Starfleet assumed control of the station under
the request of the Bajoran Provisional Government and even though it was under
Starfleet controls it fell under the Bajoran Government jurisdiction. After the
discovery of a stable Wormhole the linked the Bajoran system to the Gamma quadrant,
Deep Space 9 was moved near the Wormhole in order to solidify the Bajoran claim
on the Wormhole. This placed the station at about three hours from the planet
Bajor. The extent of the defensive shield around the station is almost 300 meters.
The station his inhabited by 300 residents in permanence, but the station has
a capacity of about 7000 peoples. All Federation and non-Bajoran were briefly
evacuated from the station in early 2370 when Circle forces threatened the station's
safety. The station was taken under Dominion jurisdiction from the Federation
following Starlet's mining of the Wormhole and the Bajoran-Dominion Nonaggression
pact.
