The West Coast Soarers is a glider club based in Geelong Australia. The club is primarily made up of slope flyers but a keen electric contigent is also present. One of our slopes backs onto a large paddock which is perfect for thermal flying (my favorite).
The majority of members fly their own creations or ships designed by other club members. These include 60" slope speedsters to 4.5 metre scale sailplanes to small foamie kombat ships.
After living in Melbourne when I first took to R/C flying I have come to realise just how lucky the Geelong based club is. We have slope/flat field sites within 20 minutes drive for nearly all wind directions. Geelong, being near to the ocean, gets a consistant on-shore wind in the afternoons providing year round flying.
The club meets at 7:30pm on the first Monday of each month (except January) at the Commun Na Feine Hotel (209 Bellerine St, Geelong). Access to our flying sites is always available to members but Sunday is the most common day for people to be flying. New members are always welcome either at the meetings or at the slope.
I will be adding contact names and phone numbers here shortly once new office bearers are elected at the upcoming AGM. In the mean time feel free to email me with any questions.
