                           FRONT STRAIGHT:   3,600 FEET, BANKED 11 DEGREES
                           BACK STRAIGHT:   2,242 FEET, BANKED 3 DEGREES

CALIFORNIA IS ONE HECK OF A GREAT RACE TRACK!  IF YOU LIKE MICHIGAN AND RUN GOOD THERE, YOU SHOULD RUN PRETTY GOOD HERE TOO. CALIFORNIA IS NOT IDENTICAL TO MICHIGAN, BUT IT IS PRETTY CLOSE. MICHIGAN'S TURNS ARE SLIGHTLY MORE BANKED(18 DEGREES AT MICHIGAN VERSUS 14 DEGREES AT CALIFORNIA.)

YOU WANT TO RUN A VERY SIMILAR LINE TO MICHIGAN THOUGH. START OUT HIGH AGAINST THE WALL DOWN THE FRONT STRETCH. (CAREFUL THOUGH, THAT WALL WILL JUMP OUT AND GRAB YOU!) TURN INTO THE CORNER FROM THE HIGH GROOVE AND EASE OFF THE GAS AS YOU TURN THE CAR TOWARDS THE CENTER OF CORNER. YOU MAY WANT TO TAP THE BRAKES VERY GENTLY TO HELP YOU GET THE CAR SETTLED DOWN. AS YOU GET TO THE APEX OF THE CORNER, EASE BACK ON THE GAS AND LET IT DRIFT OUT TO THE WALL. ONE THING: COMING OFF TURN TWO, IT IS TIGHTER THAN AT MICHIGAN, SO BE CAREFUL NOT TO KNOCK THE WALL DOWN.

STAY OUT NEAR THE WALL DOWN THE BACKSTRETCH AND ENTER TURN THREE UP HIGH AND DRIVE IT DOWN TO THE APEX. YOU CAN USUALLY STAY IN THE GAS A LITTLE LONGER AND GET BACK INTO THE GAS A LITTLE EARLIER IN THREE AND FOUR THAN IN ONE AND TWO. YOU HAVE A LOT OF ROOM COMING OFF OF TURN FOUR, BUT DON'T THINK THAT WALL WON'T BE THERE IF YOU PUSH IT TOO FAR.

PASSING AT CALIFORNIA IS A LOT OF FUN. YOU HAVE A LOT OF SPEED AND THE DRAFT PLAYS IT'S ROLE. USE YOUR HEAD AND GET A TOW PAST THAT CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. BUT BEWARE OF DRIVING THE CAR INTO THE CORNERS TOO HARD ON THE LOW SIDE. WITH LESS BANKING TO HELP YOU, YOU'LL PUSH RIGHT UP THE TRACK AND TAKE OUT YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPETITOR.(AND IT WON'T HELP YOUR LPI ANY EITHER!!)

 

NASCAR 3 CALIFORNIA RACE SETUP
a fast stable setup that will easily propel you past the track record.  easy first couple of laps, then tires come in and you need to keep it low and in the groove.  if you get out of the groove it is a little pushy.  best speed so far just shy of 185.
