MICHIGAN IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. THE TRACK IS BIG, WIDE AND HAS ENOUGH BANKING TO MAKE FOR DIFFERENT LINES AND HIGH SPEEDS. ITS A TRACK WHERE YOU CAN DRIVE IT HIGH OR LOW AND STILL KEEP UP THE PACE OF THE LEADERS. BUT BEWARE!! MICHIGAN IS SO BIG AND HAS SO MUCH ROOM THAT IT IS VERY EASY TO FORGET HOW FAST YOU REALLY ARE GOING. THAT'S WHEN YOU USUALLY GET A TASTE OF SOME CONCRETE.
AS FAR AS THE LINE FOR MICHIGAN, ITS VERY NEARLY IDENTICAL TO THE LINE AT CALIFORNIA. THE ONLY REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO TRACKS IS THAT MICHIGAN HAS MORE BANKING. THIS WILL LET YOU DRIVE IT A LITTLE HARDER INTO THE CORNERS THAN YOU CAN AT CALIFORNIA.
START OUT NEAR THE WALL AT THE START/FINISH LINE AND STAY OUT THERE UNTIL RIGHT BEFORE THE CORNER. YOU WILL HAVE TO PRACTICE ENOUGH TO FIND THE EXACT POINT TO EASE OFF OF THE GAS ENOUGH TO SETTLE THE CAR DOWN AND LET YOU TURN THROUGH THE CORNER. IF YOU CAN HIT THE PROPER LINE, YOU CAN USUALLY RUN SOMEWHERE AROUND 174-178 THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE CORNER. WHEN YOU REACH THE APEX OF THE CORNER, EASE BACK INTO THE THROTTLE AND LET THE CAR DRIFT OUT TO THE WALL ON THE BACKSTRETCH.
STAY OUT NEAR THE WALL UNTIL YOU REACH TURN 3. YOU'LL CARRY MORE SPEED INTO TURN 3 THAN YOU DID INTO TURN 1 SO YOU'LL HAVE TO USE A LITTLE BRAKE. TRY TO STAY WITHIN ABOUT A CAR WIDTH OR SO FROM THE WHITE LINE THROUGH THE CORNER. YOU MIGHT FIND THAT YOUR PARTICULAR DRIVING STYLE WILL LEND ITSELF BETTER TO GOING WIDER THROUGH THE TURNS. JUST REMEMBER THAT IF YOU TAKE A WIDER LINE THROUGH THE TURNS 3 AND 4 THAT YOU WILL HAVE A TENDENCY TO PUSH UP TOWARDS THE WALL. BE VERY CAREFUL AND YOU'LL BE OK. IF YOU TRY TO CARRY TOO MUCH SPEED THROUGH 3 AND 4, YOU WILL HIT THE WALL. LET THE CAR EASE OUT TOWARDS THE WALL AND GET READY TO DO IT AGAIN.
