A Rambling Mind's Thoughts

I hope...Maybe

Wha??

Are you sick and tired of trying to get your poetry OUT there, but constantl running into contests you can't win, defunct e-mail addys and message boards , and insane prices to publish your own?? Maybe you don't have 80 works of your own to put in a book, maybe you don't wanna fork over a hundred bucks?? Or does your writing just not fit the angst-ridden sarcasm that corporate America tells us we should have as teenagers??

Why?

Okay, So I had to start out like a crappy Info-mercial, but still... After running into all these problems and more trying to spread my poetry around and get some feedback, I have decided that I am going to put together a collection of poetry (mostly Teens, but I'm not going to Limit it to that) It will not be a "beautiful bound edition made from the finest leather..blah blah blah" It will probably be regular (maybe glossy or something) paper, and not fancy. What it will be is REAL poetry from REAL people with the same REAL dream of having something concrete to show people your writing, rather than crumpled napkins and folded notebook paper.

Who

Good Question, well so far, it is just me that will be producing the collection . I hope to enlist the aid of friends, and people on the WWW. I am planning to copyright and produce the book under the name Floating House Productions. The more help I can get, the better I can make this book, who knows, maybe there will be more to come.

Details about me (As an author)

Well, I wouldn't expect you to buy into this without knowing a little about me. I'm 16, i live in Ontario, Canada. I have entered one school poetry contest, receiving no acclaim whatsoever. I am currently I Semi-finalist in the North American Open Poetry Contest (Sponsered by The International Library of Poetry) I will be published in an anthology (Which is gonna cost me 60 bones for a copy) I write merely for my own enjoyment (and stress relief) But as I am sure you know, it is nice to receive a little recognition once in a while. Most of my work is inspired by Music (Usually Blind Melon, Tea Party, or The Doors, but I know a little Neil Is around there somewhere) I probably have around 30 actual finished poems (I'm not sure how many jumbled thoughts and have verses I have scribbled on pieces of paper after waking up with them in my head) I should check under my bed... Most of my poems are not rhyming, they are free verse mostly. I don't think death is mentioned hardly, and they usually won't depress you. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting a little sick and tired of the "I'm so sad and depressed and lonely, I think I will go on Springer and talk about suicide" stereotype that we see in the media so often these days... It's called growing up, get over it...

How??

With your help, that's how! (Actually, I will probably do this if NO ONE responds, but it would make it easier and more interesting if it wasn't just me... And of course I'm sure you are saying to yourself "When is this idiot going to stop yapping and tell me how much money he wants??" Well fine, be that way :o). I would LOVE to do this for free, unfortunatly, as my Dad might say "Whaddya think I am, the Bank of Commerce??" I'm looking at making my target price $20, that would include your copy, and the price of putting you in there (I'm also hoping to include a bio?PIc? of all our poets) Mind you, that won't happen without some outside help, the more people I can get in on this, the better it is gonna be for your 20 bucks. If I use e-mail for most things, that will save a bundle on postage.
So, if you want to get something in here, offer help, donations, ideas, criticisms, death threats, whatever. Drop me a line And Please Remember, this is at the VERY early stages, (As in, still just a pipe dream bouncing around inside my melon) But I'd really like to make a go of this. So Come On! Keep this idea A float, who knows what it could lead to?? Not This(BitMap, BMP), I hope.
PS- If you don't see a Background, This is the Floating House Productions Logo.
