Biography for Jim Mortimore

Name: Jim Mortimore

Date of birth: ????

Place of birth: London, England

Jim was born in London and always had a passion for writing, in fact in his time as a professional author he has written more than twelve books, his works mainly being novelizations or spin off books from popular television shows and films. His work has thus far included books based on science fiction cult classics Doctor Who (a personal favourite of Jim's) and Babylon 5, acclaimed police drama Cracker (remade as 'Fritz' in the states), and the novelization of Stuart Gordon's film, Space Truckers, along with numerous others.

Jim first met Andrew (Dymond, First Frontier Producer/Co-Creator) in 1990, and they have remained great friends ever since (some say more like brothers) until, disillusioned with much of the current wave of generic sci-fi television, they finally decided in 1998 to sit down and work on the concept of an idea that the two of them had had for a new brand of quality science fiction, a project that what would soon become known simply as 'First Frontier'.

They worked on a bible for the show first, fleshing out a lot of the characters and their motivations, as well as a lot of the overall story arcs, concepts and ideas that they had in mind for the show, then got down to the nitty gritty of writing the first (pilot) script, gradually getting the ball rolling and recruiting other people into the proposed project. As it continued to gather steam and interest Jim still wasn't content with his hefty workload as head writer/co-creator, and even as they recruited other writers to help pen episodes for the show, (provisionally) hired actors and sought a distribution deal for their brainchild, Jim along with Simon Robinson went about creating the score to First Frontier.

And now, in Jim's own words, things are getting really interesting...
