Biography for Joe McGann

Eldest of the McGann brood, which consists of brothers Paul, Mark and Stephen, all actors, and sister Clare, Joe McGann has carved himself quite an impressive career to date in a number of television starring roles, along with the occasional film role.

Probably best known for his lead role in the popular comedy series The Upper Hand, he was also a regular on Rockliffe's Babies playing the tough, in your face copper PC Gerry O'Dowd, as well as starring in a number of high profile projects, such as the recent Madame Bovary, as well as the films The Brylcreem Boys, opposite Gabriel Byrne, and Food Of Love, starring Richard E. Grant.

Another project that he was heavily involved with in recent years was the The Hanging Gale, which was very much a McGann family project. In it he starred opposite all three of his brothers, with brother Stephen also responsible for researching and instigating, as well as co-writing the project, which dramatises the story of the Irish Potato Famine, and the mass emigration that it caused. Upon it's release The Hanging Gale was welcomed with very favourable reviews, and praise for all four brothers considerable efforts. Previos to that all four brothers have appeared together on The West End in the musical Yakety Yak, which garnered quite a bit of praise for for both their acting and musical talent.

Outside of his acting Joe McGann is a talented sportsman and even played cricket for Lancashire, along with being on the apprentice team for Everton Football Club in his younger years. On top of this he has also recently released an album with his brothers Stephen and Mark, which all three brothers helped write and record. So far the album has proved quite a success, even spawning two popular singles, one of which also features the singing of sister Clare.

Joe also does more than his fair share for the underprivileged, regularly leading hiking expeditions along The Great Wall Of China, with all the profits benefitting charity, as well as an annual fund raising trek that he undertook with brother Stephen. And on top of all of this he is a devoted father to daughter Charlotte.

A great addition to the cast of First Frontier, Joe McGann is definitely a talent to watch. That's if you can catch him between all of his other projects.
