The Savoia Coalition

Personalities

King Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia
The KingHis father having abdicated in his favour on the evening after the Novara disaster (1848), Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia began his life as a king by negotiating an uneasy  peace with Field-Marshall Radetsky.
Known to his subjects as "Il Re Galantuomo" (The Gentleman King) but variously described as brash, egocentric, uncouth and with quite an eye for the ladies, Vittorio Emanuele found himself in the position of becoming the first King of Italy, thanks to the machinations of his prime minister Count Cavour, only to see the dream vanish in the ricepaddies of the Piedmont-Lombardy border once again, this time under the fire of the Austrian airships. Now, after Cavour's death and the failure of Garibaldi's mission south, the king is still restless for action, and can see various menaces to his power: Mazzini's Republicans, the Anarchists, the new party of industrial enterpreneurs, even the Pope.

Note: it's to be considered extremely unpolite to publish stats about a Ruling King, and therefore none will be printed here. Each Entertainment Host can devise his very own version.

General Giuseppe Govone
The GeneralNicknamed "Cuore di Pietra" (Stone-hearted) because of an ill advised youthful deception, General Govone has been through all the saliet moments of the last 15 years of history: sent to rescue suicidal king Carlo Alberto on the Novara battlefield, a witness at Balaclava, a diplomat in Britain and Germany and the Near East, a spy. The man that had anticipated the importance of aerial superiority in the future campaigns well before the 1859 fiasco and was mocked and pitied for it, he is now the head of both the armed forces and the secret services, and the tactical mind behind Project Blue Sky. A man precise and meticolous to the point of obsession and with a personal, bitter acquaintance with chance, Govone is working to preserve what has been conquered so far more than to expand the crown possessions, a political choiche that makes him an unwelcome guest in some circles. He is a strong supporter of the Second Compact.

Virginia Oldoini, Countess Verasis di Castiglione
The CountessFlorence-born wife of Count Francesco Castiglione di Costigliole, a few decades her senior. Has collected through the years a string of highly placed lovers, including Vittorio Emanuele II and Napoleon III, Baron Rothschild and the late Count Cavour; often used by Cavour as an informal liaison with the French court. Rumours of her involvement with the Sisterhood of Sekhmet are rife and likely founded on fact. Currently in self imposed retirement in her castle near Asti, after the failure in involving Napoleon III with the Italian Independence War. A dangerous woman to cross, armed with both mundane and supernatural charms. Nicknamed "Nicchia" (a bird of prey akin to the falcon) by Nigra among others.

Costantino NigraCostantino Nigra
Cavour's man in Paris is more than willing to keep to the original plan: to force France to back Italy against Austria.
To this end, Nigra can rely on a keen mind, and connections in circles both high and low.

Nigra is a not unusual fixture in European society circles, where he tries to gather further support for the Coalition.

His less ortodox connections include the remains of the '48 Chartist movement across Europe.
