| A creature of crumbling cities and ancient ruins, and one of the most ancient predators of the Solar System, the Shambleau is the siren of the desert caravans, and the spook of the backwater cities that rim the steppes. The Martians do not speak willingly of this creature, and according to the common wisdom, once the presence of a Shambleau is known in a certain area, the citizens organize a hunting party and, chasing the creature through the streets or the barrens, they kill it without hesitation. The whole thing is shrouded in silence and mistery, and rarely do the news of the deed reach beyond the bounduaries of the community. For a long time dismissed as a native legend, recent events in the poorer section of Gorovaan seem to indicate that the creature is real and the presence of a new, easy prey - namely man - has forced it to move to the outskirts of more densely populated areas.
