redballfactual data about Shambleau  are scarce and patchy at best, as those that encountered them are not willing to elaborate on their experiences. The best documented case is in connection with a shambleau operating on Old Mars.

redballA vampiric entity of sorts, the Shambleau generally appears as a roughly human female, with tan skin covered with fine hairs and a mane of wormlike tentacles (normally hidden under some kind of head gear). Fingers terminate in curved corneal talons and the eye are of a deep brilliant green, with slitted pupils. It has been theorized by some that the human form of the Shambleau could well be a complex illusion weaved by the creature for feeding purposes.

The origin of the urge can be traced, according to different sources, to a mesmeric power of sort, to the strong emission of pheromones, to other, less clearly pigeonholed causes.

redballHaving connected with its target and seduced him, the Shambleau apparently feeds off the victim's "vital energy". The trance-like sexual obsession that the Shambleau produces in the victim is apparently a mechanism aimed at increasing the concentration of said life force.
These details have led different researchers to classify the Shambleau as a variant Oriental vampire feeding off the yang energy of the victim, or as a casebook example of psychic vampire.
