Angra, a Brazilian word, which in English means "bay" or "creek", was formed in
(Brazilian) summer of 1991. It's said that it also means "Goddess of Fire" in a local Indian
language. They already played in a lot of cities here in Brazil, some countries in Europe and
Japan.
Their first record was the Demo Tape named "Reaching Horizons", Angra was formed by Andre
Matos (Vocal, Keyboards), Luis Mariutti (bass), Kiko Loureiro (guitars), Rafael Bittencourt
(guitars), and Marco Antunes (drums).
In their first Album named Angels Cry, all drums were played by Alex Holzwarth(Sieges
Even) except Wuthering Heights" by Thomas Nack (Anaesthesia) also appears in the album : Kai
Hansen and Dirk Schläter (Gamma Ray) and Sascha Paeth (Heavens Gate). The album was an amazing
heavy rock melodic one and was number one in Japan where Angra has a lot of fans.
Since the album was launched, Angra featured with Ricardo Confessori playng the drums,
that being their formation nowadays. Their show in Circo Voador(RJ) was a masterpiece with
everybody singing their songs and with Iron Maiden's Cover: Wasted Years and Flight of Icarus.
Two years passed and came Holy Land, with the union of rock and Brazilian music, a great
album for those who like good music, with very impressive vocals and solos. Their show at
Imperator(RJ) was another masterpiece that finished with the Priest Hit: PainKiller.
Getting along with the success of Holy Land, they launched a single named Freedom Call
with some old and new versions of songs plus here in Brazil with an acoustic recorded in French.
Andre Matos can also be seen in action in his former band named Viper. He can be heard
singing in the first two albums of this band named "Soldiers of Sunrise" and "Theatre of Fate".
