Histology & Philosophy
Clyde J. Hartman, Royce Naquin, & Marty Cortez, as a means of helping to preserve the Cajun Music and Culture formed the Lafourche Cajun Band in 1990. Other original members of the band were Vincy Truxillo (Fiddle) and Chad Shicksnider (Drums).
The Lafourche Cajun Band has performed for tour groups, private parties, conventions, local fairs and festivals, numerous Cajun French Music Association functions, such as the Le Cajun Awards in Lafayette, LA. They also performed at The Bayou Boogaloo Festival in Norfolk VA, The Swamp Fest at Audubon Zoo, Super Bowl Saturday in New Orleans, LA at the Aquarium for CBS Sports, the Tomato Festival in New Orleans, LA, The Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in Morgan City, LA, BoomTown Casino in Biloxi MS, Casino Magic in Bay St. Louis MS, The Azelea Trail Run and the First Night Mobile in Mobile AL, The Old Town Spring Crawfish Festival in Spring Texas, Vermillionville, a popular Cajun attraction in Lafayette, LA, The Louisiana Music Festival in Houma, LA, and the nationally televised show, "The New Original Amateur Hour" at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL.
The Lafourche Cajun Band enjoys their participation with the music, and telling visitors of the state about the music and its colorful history. If requested, the band will give a history of each song and who wrote it. They try to introduce to the non-French speaking people what to look for in the French music and what the song is about. They always welcome the chance to play away from Bayou Lafourche so they can spread the sounds of Cajun Music to other areas.
The Lafourche Cajun Band had a cassette on the Lanor Record Label. The album entitled "Chemin d' Fer" featured original songs written by the band members, and other traditional and contemporary popular Cajun Songs, but is no longer in print. A new CD came out in August of 2005 under the Tru-Hart Records Label, titled "A Taste Of Lafourche". The CD has 17 songs of traditional & comtemporary cajun music and a little taste of Zydeco.
The Band has also provided some background music for a documentary film about the Gulf of Mexico, Key West to the Yucatan, and a documentary made for Discovery Channel (Canada) called the Great Warming.
Some people refer to the Lafourche Cajun Band as a good dance band. They are entertaining, enthusiastic as well as informative. They will fill your day with happiness and make you a part of their Cajun culture. ---- Bon Temps, Bonne Musique, et Laissez les Bon Temps Rouller.
