the voice
This noodzaak-project gives the human voice a central position.
Because without a voice, there is nothing. An instrumental is nice once in a while, but
one cannot do without the human voice for a long time. Voices exist in all kinds of
variations; from chrystal clear to sandpaper-like.
The excellent English music magazine Mojo published in it's October 1998 issue a
large article, entitled "The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time". The magazine
invited it's readers to react on this article. In a slightly adapted form we use this
concept for our voice-project.
- Compile a list with your top-10 of best singers of all-time. List as many or as few
singers as you like, but ten entries is the maximum. If possible, write a few lines of
comment to each of "your" singers.
- The Mojo top-100 is listed below. Scan the list and write a short essay (about
250 words) about the singer that you think is sadly missing in this top-100. Write in any
case a few words about the - according to you - Greatest Vocal Moment of that
singer. This may be a (split) second, or an endless aria.
