What a pleasure listening to a German singing band that doesn't sound like Tocotronic or Die
Sterne. I definitely like those two bands very much, but Astra Kid are a damn good alternative
sounding and guitar orientated Pop Rock band. Although their CD-EP only contains 5 songs, they
present themselves from very varied aspects. The opener 'bleiben/gehen.de' is a faster song with
a nice tune. My favourite track is 'Obwohl ich anders sein will...'. Astra Kid don't only sound
like number one French Rock band Noir Désir, but they also sing some lines of the chorus
in that language 'Je ne veux pas être comme ça' - quite funny. The title track is
an acoustic track with a children choir. Quite nice, but not as exciting as the rest of the CD.
The album was produced by J. Kell, singer of top Austrian noise band Sans Secours. Especially on
the last track 'Schöne neue Welt', you can hear out his signature. Astra Kid don't sound
very commercial, but somehow they have the skills to enter the charts with their catchy
tunes. By the way, why is the band called Astra Kid? The Astra Kid is no Sci-Fi hero nore a
member of Toy Story, but the name of a Belgian wine gum. Yummy!!!!
