This CD is like a massive slap in your ugly face. Botch are one of those bands that transport
the term 'psycho core' into very new dimensions. This is not only music, it's a whole concept
of artwork, lyrics and finally music that together build up a tension that makes you think your
ears are bathing in chlorhydric acid. On the one hand their music is very brutal and powerful,
but on the other hand they are a technically advanced band and remind in that way the late Refused,
although Botch are far less easy-listening. Song titles like 'To Our Friends In The Great White
North', 'Saint Matthew Returns To The Womb',... they leave already the mark of alienation on their
audience. I admit that I don't understand their concept, but I can feel the energy that these
guys are freeing with their music, and it's really something kinda unique. As if Meshuggah
played hardcore, and it is no big surprise that Botch toured the Northern American continent
together with Neurosis, VoiVod and Today Is The Day. The two strangest songs have been put at the
very end of this CD: the 10-minutes-epic 'I Wanna Be A Sex Symbol On My Own Term' (who doesn't)
which shows every face of Botch and has nice, dark choir vocals at the end, and finally the
techno-drum'n'bass track 'Man The Ramparts' that shows us a more electronic face of Botch.
People that are into the strange should absolutely check 'We Are The Romans' out!
