Cannibal Corpse are truly a legend: parents, politicians and priests hate them, but they get
more and more fans with every record they produce. Jim Carrey invited them once to have a part
in an Ace Ventura movie, and even one time presidential candidate Bob Dole affectionately held
them responsible for the lack of morality in society. 'Bloodthirst' is the second album with
ex-Nevermore guitar player Pat O'Brien, and his technical skill really improved the sound of
Cannibal Corpse. The new CD is the perfect symbiosis between sheer brutality and intelligent
songwriting, and the band has not made the mistake to emphasize too much on their progressiveness.
Only one song is longer than 4 minutes, and most of them are about 3 small minutes short.
George Fisher's voice is so evil that he could scare old grannies with his vocals from Hell,
and song titles like 'Hacksaw Decapitation' or 'Blowtorch Slaughter' show us that Cannibal
Corpse still use the same old lyrical concept. The European version of the CD has an
alternative cover artwork so that they won't be censored, and although this somehow makes
the artistic conception poorer. But that's why from the musical point, this CD is a real
killer. Most of the songs are absolutely hyperspeed, although there are also some mid-tempo
tracks like 'Unleashing The Bloodthirsty'. My favourite songs are the three fast and
complicated songs 'Pounded Into Dust', 'The Spine Splitter' and 'Raped By The Beast',
although the CD is pure greatness in itself. Of course Cannibal Corpse are too old now to
revolutionize their own style, but they still show no compromises. 9 points for 35
bleeding minutes!
