The Chronics are one of the hottest
bands from Sweden. They definitely have chosen the right album title for their fabulous debut
CD. The quite short songs on 'Soulshaker' are a superb mixture of Rock songs containing tons of
Soul and slight Punk parts. I like to compare The Chronics to the two Swedish (again!) conspiracies;
The Royal Beat Conspiracy and The (International) Noise Conspiracy. 'Soulshaker' is much more
than just simple Garage Rock, and talking about MC5, Stooges or Sonics Rip Off wouldn' be fair
at all towards the Chronics. Some songs are pure Soul (Shake And Make), others really show how
to rock nowadays (Fire Up!) and their are even songs surprising with the use of wind players (Shine
On Me). 'Rocket In The Sky' (with female backing vocals) or 'Highway Woman' (very bombastic, Meat
Loaf like) are two more arguments why this CD isn't boring at all. To me, it is one of the
highlights of the year 2000. Sweden rules!!!
