Edenbridge are a hot and promising newcomer
from Austria. They have been founded in 1998 by guitar player Lanvall who has already released several
solo albums. Edenbridge play a kind of Symphonic Metal with female vocals what immediately draws a
parallel to Nightwish from Finland. They have been very popular during the last year and it was obvious
that other bands would follow that direction. Nevertheless both singers have very different sounding
voices, I think that Sabine Edelsbacher from Germany has a clearer voice. But Edenbridge don't need
being compared to another band. What they have produced on their debut is really promising. Most songs
are a great mixture of rock riffs and melodic lines, enriched with epic and symphonic instrumentations.
My favourite tracks are the eight minutes lasting title song which is not only the most epic song,
but it also has a nice Asian sounding intro and 'Wings Of The Wind', the most progressive track. The
only two weaker songs are the ballads 'Forever Shine On' and 'In The Rain', definitely not Edenbridge's
strongest point. But even the grandmaster of prog sounds - Gandalf - has seen the band's great talent.
The album was recorded in his own studio and he even played citar on 'My Last Step Beyond' which is
lasting over ten minutes. Edenbridge will tour with Pink Cream 69 and Axxis and I suppose that both
bands will look quite pale compared to Edenbridge who are not only playing on a much higher level,
but her singer is looking marvellous.
