It's about 4 or 5 years now that Die Kassierer belong to my favourite German Punk bands. They
have toured a lot so far, but they unfortunately never came very close to Luxemburg. After I
have missed them in September '99 when they played in the Saarland, I was quite eager to see
them this year at the Hellmut in Saarbrücken. I was just wondering if this tiny club wouldn't
be too small for Die Kassierer on a weekend day, but my fears were in vain. Only about 100 people
were present, but they saw a real bizarre show.
I have already been quite familiar with all the records by this unique band, but seeing them on
stage is a very different experience. Frontman Wölfi was running around the stage, more
or less undressed. He has a big belly and a face that only a mother can love, but watching him
was simply fun. The spectators were sharing my opinion and so there was an intense, but not brutal
pogo in the first rows. Wölfi, as he was telling me after the gig, found that the audience
was wonderful. But Die Kassierer also tried to give their best and played a lot of their classics
(see the track list in the review). Everyone knows that the songs aren't on a very high
level concerning the technical point of view, but funny and vulgar lyrics or the simple party
atmosphere are just two reasons to like Die Kassierer. Sometimes the concert was interrupted by
improvisations (Die Kassierer were making fun of a guy who was looking like Wolfgang Petry without
his 'Freundschaftsbändchen') or little show blocks (the homosexual cowboy show). Even if
they are farting or trying to shit on stage, people are not shocked, but quite amused. Among the
spectators, I heard two people speaking French. I hope for them that they also understood some
German, otherwise I doubt that they would have enjoyed the show which contained some surprises.
To some songs were added new strophes that were not present of the CDs.
Here's a list of the 22 songs that were played on stage. The titles speak for themselves. I just
want to add that song 10 was the hit among the spectators.
01: Besoffen sein
02: Sex mit dem Sozialarbeiter

After the concert, frontman Wölfi was talking for more than an hour to Eaubi and me.
Here are some facts he was telling us:
Wölfis real name is Rolf.
Wölfi combines Luxemburg with the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson.
Until the age of 13, Wölfi was a server in church.
There he came in contact with the lawyer of Die Kassierer who also contributes to their songs.
Wölfi is interested in pedagogic studies.
If the APPD had won the German national elections, Wölfi would have become the minister of
health and drugs.
Wölfi is glad that the APPD got 8000 votes more than Schlingensief's Chance 2000.
Wölfi's favourite French singer is Gilbert Bécaud. He likes his lyrics.
Die Kassierer prefer their German vocals to their English ones.
Die Kassierer would like to play a gig in Luxemburg.
