Reggie Fain is a solo project by Jérôme Reuter who is already known in Luxemburg
as member of bands like Toxkäpp, Skinflicks or De Knëppel. Although his roots are
in the Punk and Ska scene, Jérôme also likes sometimes to do something different.
A few years ago, he already published a tape where he was only playing slow tunes on an acoustic
guitar (Somnambulnation). This time, he grabs back to his guitar but also sings with a quite
rough voice. His musical godfathers are doubtlessly Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, but the
quality differences between Reggie and his idols are still huge. Reggie can play lots of
instruments and so, the guitar isn't strange to him. He isn't an excellent singer, but his
idols don't have the clearest voices either. Reggie's main problem still is the song writing.
There aren't too much differences between all those songs and while listening to the album
for a third or fourth time, there's nothing new to discover. It's OK to let it run in the
background and when I listen to it while correcting my pupil's exercises, it doesn't disturb
or annoy at all. But the general impression is nevertheless that it isn't exciting enough,
although that surely wasn't the artist's intention.
