Luxemburg four-piece Salina will make their way into history books by having released their
first CD before even having played one single concert. The strange thing is that the rhythm
section consists of Schof on drums (who used to play for hardcore legend Wounded Knee) and
Brego on bass (who used to play for the noise rock band BeCause), but Salina has nothing to
do with the musical pasts of these two guys. It's hard to describe the music, but alternative
emo pop would be a good attempt at first, although if you have seen the band already live,
you could as well use the expression 'shoegazer'. Salina may be the brainchild of singer
guitar player Thierry, who does not look like your typical rock star, but he sure knows how
to write great tunes. His sad and slightly high-pitched vocals together with the distorted,
melancholic music sometimes give you the creeps. You can check the band's page on MP3.com
where they offer their two best songs 'White & Hot' and 'Over' for free, and if you like
these, you shouldn't hesitate to buy this EP-CD, as the band sells it for a really low price.
9 points for one of Luxemburg's most original and refreshingly sad bands of all times.
