They started off in 1993 when Butch, Duke and Steve were working on remixes
for U2, they had always wanted to go out on their own but had never been
able to find a suitable female vocalist.They saw Shirley singing "Suffocate
Me," on MTV and got in touch with her as soon as was possible. It was not
long after that they became a band.
The band do not try to deny that their music
is very much influenced by U2. Garbages's first official appearance was
in 1995 and no one knew what was to become of them.
The scottish front woman Shirley was not unknown to the music world as
she had just quit her old band, Angelfish.Garbage produced one of the most
successful albums of the alternative era...selling around 4 million copies.
Shirley's lyrics are of revenge but are also
combined with layers of rythms, loops and riffs. They have also acquired
3 Grammy nominations.
