Silverchair, Daniel Johns, Chris Joannou, Ben Gillies, got their big break in 1994 when the trio from Newcastle entered a National Demo competition . They  had to write in 25 word or less why they should be chosen.....They wrote on a yellow piece of cardboard "We're not  hip hop, we're not rap, we're rock and we love to play" , they also sent their single of Tomorrow which they had recorded in Ben's garage and were chosen as the winners  from over 800 entries. their prize was a day in the recording studio of Triple J.....They re-cut Tomorrow, gave the tape to the station and their song was immediately added to the play list!!  The listeners response was overwhelming so the DJ  put Tomorrow into heavy rotation. At the start they had a bit of trouble and were often being put down because of their age , as they were only 15 and 16.  By December 1994 they were no.1 in the Australian popular bands.! They then released their debut album 'Frogstomp' and it also became no.1 in the Australian charts!!..they were the first Australian band to do so!!
From then on they became the big hit that we all know and love today!!
