Tile Project
This Project is from: Maria Fisher a special education
teacher in Delaware. She writes
I enjoyed reading your craft project ideas and will try some out in my classroom.
Last year I had success making coasters out of ordinary bathroom wall tiles.
We took the tiles and stenciled them with a holiday theme. We used two colors.
Later when they dried we baked them in a toaster oven four ten minutes.
Then we glued a square of felt on the bottom. The children wrapped the tiles
in tissue paper and used them for a holiday gift.
Also stenciling works best when the students use sponges and not brushes.
Make sure the use a minimum of paint and blot lightly over the stencils.
I have done a similar activity when making my own personal gifts. You can
get special paint in most good art and craft store. I use a brand called
Glossies and I find a little goes a long way. I have painted
vases, large tiles for pot stands and also coffee mugs. The paints are non-toxic,
however they do state that the paint should not be placed in areas where
it will come in contact with the mouth, for example dinner plates and also
the rim area and inside of mugs.
Thanks Maria!
