THEMES

The only reality in music is the state of mind which it induces in the listener.

Stendhal, 1783-1842

Music should take you places and make you see wonderful worlds. Movies should be an art and a way of expressing emotion and power. Thank God someone found a way to blend the two. In the world of movie music, it is more than just timing and coordinating. It is about capturing the viewers' attention adding something else to enhance the storyline and the picture before you. At least that is what Vangelis believes. This is a compliation album containing music for the movies. No smoking, no talking, no littering, enjoy refreshments, buy gift certificates, locate fire exits and, of course, enjoy the show!

[2] MAIN THEME FROM MISSING
The movie, directed by Costa-Gavas, was based on an American reporter mysteriously disappeared in South America. The most memorable musical selection was its main theme. It is very delicate and very recognizable (if you watch skating routines with your mother). It is powerful yet very moving in the sense that it makes you want to cry out loud in the middle of its unfolding awe. Great track.

[9] OPENING TITLES FROM THE BOUNTY
This movie, based on the book Mutiny on the Bounty (starring Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins), is one of Vangelis' most interesting and mysterious soundtracks. When hearing this one gets the feeling of being somewhere where you are very uncertain and ignorant of the situation before you. It sends a chill up and down your spine. Too bad there isn't an official release.

[10] CLOSING TITLES FROM THE BOUNTY
We have the opening and now the closing. This is a nice closure, in the sense that it nicely wraps things up as a movie and as a story. You feel a sense to stay in the theater and absorbing all the emotion right down to the last note. Vangelis knows exactly how to capture an audience. A huge contrast with the opening titles.
