Black & Blue Concert Review: Philadelphia on January 31st, 2001

It may have been a year since the Backstreet Boys were on tour, but, no pun intended, BACKSTREETS BACK!

My daughter and I caught the first show in Philadelphia.  Krystal came out at 7:30 and did four songs.  She was pretty good and the crowd really got into her show.

At 9:00 the arena went black with only the huge monitor showing the earth being bombarded by meteorites.  The sound effects along with the fire balls hitting the stage filled the arena with so much energy.  By the time the BSB appeared and started singing "Everyone", the place was in a frenzy!  They immediately went into "Larger Than Life".

They followed with Shining Star, What Makes you Different, Makes You Beautiful, Yes I Will, & More Than That.
When the audience heard the music for "I Want It That Way", the place went crazy all over again!  Brian seemed
to have so much fun in just appreciating the fans reactions.  They got us to sing a lot of it.  They then went into Not For Me and then Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely.  The dancing and costumes were just as great as the music.

One cleverly done part was when we were "invited" into their dressing room.  This was really funny and the guys seemed to have a lot of fun with it.  The just all disappear into a huge trunk on stage with a camera man left on stage supposedly showing the guys changing.  When the BSB reappear it is on a small, circular stage at the other end of the arena.  If this isn't enough having them on a center stage again, the crowd just erupts when they start singing I'll Never Break Your Heart, I Promise You, & How Did I Fall In Love With You.  The guys start talking to the audience.  Brian then embarrasses Nick by inviting everyone to sing happy birthday to Nick.  Of course, everyone joins in.  A huge bridge comes down from the ceiling that connects their smaller stage to the main stage.  As the guys are walking out onto the bridge, they sing "Time".  Kevin crawled out over it and sat on the outside.  God, he was just gorgeous!  They end up back on the main stage and Kevin explains their individual charities.  This is followed by the Answer To Our Life.  I love this song! They make the make the usual introductions of their dancers and musicians.  They go on to do All I Have To Give, If You Stay, Everybody (Backstreet's Back), and Get Another Boyfriend.  They finished up with The Call and finally with Shape of My Heart.

I know that when I found out that this tour was going to be on an end stage, I was so disappointed.  But, after seeing
the Black and Blue Show all I can say is "Boy, was I wrong!"  There was no room for disappointment.  This was a
major production!  I envy all of you that still are waiting for the tour to come to your city.  It is worth the wait!  With the
guys, the music, the dancing, and the special effects, the Backstreet Boys just keep on proving why they are the best
Pop Band ever!  Enjoy your shows!!
