«Ever since John Coltrane and
the avant-garde, jazz music, with its free forms of improvisation, has allowed artists to
not only juggle with sounds and rhythms, but to also express the spiritual experience.
Listening to «INTUITION» offers us both the passion of playing and the passion of
living. The original compositions on «INTUITION» range from the very rhythmic («Organic
Purity») to the meditative («L'Étang»). Pieces such as «The Way I Thought» or
«Insomnie» are more fanciful, letting one's thoughts float freely about. In this
respect, François CARRIER's music, with
its occasional unpredictability, seems to flow out of a sens of great inner freedom. On
bass, Pierre CÔTÉ is a remarkable presence. A style that is very expressive, and there
is nothing that doesn't come from pure feeling. François CÔTÉ can be solid and
discreet, or percussive and robust, and does it well. This recording by the FRANÇOIS CARRIER TRIO is the imprint of their
experience as individuals and as musicians, a window open upon the planet.»
