Welcome to Phil's Punk Rock Reviews.
I set this site up just to let people know what I think of various punk,
hardcore and ska bands and cds. I also set it up for the purpose
of hearing what other people think, so if you wanna review something for
me (any cd, any band, even if its already on the site) all you have to
do is go here. I will be happy to
link your site with the review and ofcourse will give credit.
News
& New Stuff!
11/07/00: 2 months,
no updates! Sorry, been busy...here is another list of cds I have bought
since the last update...
GRADE-"under the
radar"- These guys rock! Hardcore Emo style. I'll be listening to this
cd for years...every song is sung with so much emotion and power...I recommend
this cd over anything. Check'em out on Victory Records.
Victory Style III-really
good comp, not as good as number 4 but still good. If your lookin'
for a hardcore fix, this and Victory style 4 are it. This one also
has a good ska song by Catch 22 and a really cool jazz/ska Hi-Fives song.
SNAPCASE-"designs
for automotion"- If this cd doesn't get you rocking, you might as well
listen to Blink 182 or some other shitband similar to Blink 182 (bad religion).
This is the best hardcore I've every heard, amazing vocals backed up by
kickass music. I highly recommend this cd to anyone.
Face to Face-"over
it"- This is older face to face which means it doesn't suck like their
new stuff.
NOFX-"pump up the
valuum"- Great cd...blah blah you've probably read a billion reviews of
this cd already...a big fuck you to all the people who thought nofx was
past their prime...done.
PunkOrama 5-"epitaph
comp"-This is a freakin' great compilation! Great songs from every
(almost) epitaph band. You might as well buy it...its super cheap...fuck,
go to Warped Tour and you'll get it for free. (probably).
Layaway Plan-"Force
of habit"- Good band out on Small Man Records. Really good live band...check'em
out if you get the chance, or go to www.smallmanrecords.com.
Rancid-"Life wont wait"-I
really like this cd. There are some really
good tunes on here and they include many different styles. Theres
the same old Rancid stye along with a bunch of goodass reggae, ska etc...
If you didn't really like the older Rancid cds, you'll like this one a
lot better, I did.
Give'em the bout two-"Hellcat
records"- Perhaps one of the best comps I've ever heard. So many
different styles of music plus so many different bands. Even my parents
like this comp (is that a bad thing?).
Other news-I saw
Bigwig live again couple days ago and I thought I'd just mention again
how good they are. They are even releasing a 7" on Fat Wreck Chords
and have just signed a 2 album deal on Fearless records. You can
check Bigwig out on this unofficial
site cause their official site is a little (2 years) outdated.
11/05/00: Well,
I thought wrong. Here is an update and you can expect more soon.
I added 3 new reviews. Strung Out's "Twisted by Design," Ten Foot
Pole's "Enleashed," and Victory Style 4, my favourite comp ever!
20/04/00:
Ok, so i have not updated since pretty much
the first day, oh well. I don't think i'll update this page until
the winter so don't bother checking in everyonce in a while. Anyway
here is a list of cds that i have bought since the last update and heres
what i think...
Bigwig-"unmerry
melodies"- this cd can be compared to nofx's "punk in drublic." It doesn't
sound the same but is of that great same quality.
Beefcake-"rejected"-
this cd is amazing. Mix of the Vandels and Guttermouth. The songs
are really funny, as in nofx funny. This band is fu*kin' amazing
live. You can get it from Fearless Records.
NOFX-"the longest
line"- if this cd had more songs (5), it would be their best.
Strung Out-"twisted
by design"- this cd is really fast and really good too!
Hi-Standard-"angry
fist"- good stuff, not as good as "growing up" though.
Screw32-"under the
influence of bad people"- If you like Strung Out, buy this cd...
Another Joe-"cran-doodle
daddy"- Really good punk from B.C. This cd is on Landspeed records.
They just released a new cd and its really good. They are now on
Smallman records and are playing a show in my town monday and its gonna
rock.
Ten Foot Pole-"unleashed"-
really good straight punk rock.
Honest Don's-"greatest
shits"- good sampler but it gets boring quick. all the songs are
really good and it only costs like $5 bucks.
07/01/00: New
Sick of it all review page which includes a real audio sample. New
review of nofx's "so long and thanks for all the shoes" cd. I also
added some nofx midis to the page just for fun. I will try to get
some kind of audio sample for most of the bands (either Mp3 or Ram) within
the next week or so. I'm sorry about those dumb banners you see at
the top of the pages. My server puts them there and without them,
I wouldn't have a site. Just don't pay attention to them.
01/01/00: Opening
day.
If you ain't got any players,
you can get free ones from the links above.
Phil Jason Dill makes this
page eh?
Oh and this stuff is COPYRIGHT
(I think). Actually, i got pics, mp3 and stuff from other pages but
the text and page i made.
