{1} Where's Route {1}?
Portland, ME - October 16-17, 2005

Portland can't seem to make up its mind on the location of northbound U.S. Route 1.
The Veterans Bridge proceeds straight through Veterans Intersection onto Valley street, and signage at the intersection directs northbound US-1 traffic to Valley St.
Nonetheless, there are a few signs for North {1} on St. John St.

St. John St. does, however, carry southbound US-1, as at one time it served as the only approach to the bridge from this direction, and Valley St. is one-way between Congress St. & Park Ave.
One can also see in the Terraserver image (linked above) US-1 feeding directly from the bridge into Valley St.

From this direction, taking St. John to Park Ave
may be more sensible than proceeding to Valley St...
But shouldn't this really be signed as TO {1}?
