August 11. 2002 was a great day in the history of Rockabilly. At The Oneida "Rockin 50's Fest", after teriffic sets by "The Crickets", and then by "The Original Comets", Marvin Rainwater took the stage.
Not only did he take it, he owned it.
With Rockabillies from all over the world standing 40 deep at the stage, "Da Rockabilly King" ran through his repertoire of Swingin, Rockabilly Classics. Amazing energy, terrific phrasing and downright excitement permeated Marvin's performance. Keep an eye on this website for an in depth review of Marvin's performance. from the liner notes:
He is quarter Cherokee - and a full-blooded rock ‘n’ roller. He is also one of those guys who made music just a little bit different. He saw his greatest success with the classic Whole Lotta Woman, (a number one hit in England in 1958). When Marvin returned to Britain in 1975 and 1976 he recorded 2 LPs for Westwood Records. Besides the title track Rock Me, it also includes his re-recording of I Dig You Baby which he initially also recorded in England for MGM. Other outstanding songs are I Saw A Bluebird Today, Indian Momma, Proud Mary, Rock Me and Blue Valley. 11 of the 22 songs were previously issued as ‘Especially For You’ (WRS 101), the remaining songs were planned as WRS 168, but not issued.
