Even the nurses at Bushey Maternity Hospital outside Watford" Hertfordshire knew there was something special about the blue-eyed boy. He was already alert to everything around him, reacting responding to each sight and sound.

From ages five to twelve, little Simon attended after-school acting classes twice a week.

He appeared In a stage play called Tom Brown's School Days and performed in television commercials for Persil, Look In magazine and Pepsi Cola.

"I wasn't an aspiring actor-more a perspiring actor,"

Simon's said of his theatrical days, so it's no surprise that music finally won out as his primary interest.

Younger brother David (left) always looked up to Simon, because his older sibling seemed so sophisticated. Simon was always involved in the world of grown-ups, participating, for example, in the Pinner parish church choir. It was with this group (not Duran Duran, Dog Days (his first band) or Rov Ostrov, his other band!), that he recorded his first record-it featured popular hymns. David and Simon made time for some kid fun too thoughthe two loved playing with tubs full of water toys and watching TV cartoons and commercials..
