SURF / HOT ROD MUSIC
The Illustrated Discography of Surf Music, 1961-1965, 3rd ed., by John Blair (Hardcover - Ann Arbor, MI : Popular Culture, June 1995).
Essential for the Surf recordings collector weather you seek vinyl or CDs . The book contains the best Surf discography ever released. Each band from the Golden Era of Surf appears in alphabetical order followed by a brief description then their original vinyl releases are chronicled. Important bands and releases are indicated with surfboard icon allowing the collector to zero in on important items to find. I use the book to help identify the origins of CD releases and to determine essential recording I need to find on the ever increasing CD releases from the era. I have spent hour pouring over my copy trying to identify the holes in my CD collection allowing me to prioritize my future purchase.
Also essential is the 364 page dictionary with discography's: Surfin' Guitars: Instrumental Surf Bands of the Sixties, 2nd ed., by Robert J. Dalley (Hardcover - Ann Arbor, MI : Popular Culture, Ink., July 1996).

The Surfin'ary A Dictionary of Surfing Terms and Surfspeak Compiled and Edited by: Trevor Cralle (Paperback - 2001)
I have copy of the 1991 release. I bought from a used book store in Colorado. Confirming in my mind that I am not the only land locked surf seeker. Every time I pick up the book I am transported to the many summer days I have spent on the shores of The Great Lakes. The book is very thorough in it coverage, containing much more info than I expected. Picture drawing and cartoon round out the package into a very interesting and funny venture into summer fun. A fun way to pickup a few new slang words to throw around the next time you venture to the beach. I have.
