LIVELY ONES
Originating in Orange County The Lively Ones repeatedly won the West Coast Battle of the Bands. Their first single Guitarget (10/62) was retiled Hotdoggen on their first album "Surf Rider" (4/63). The third single Surf Rider (2/63) was their largest local hit , however Goofy Foot from the same album may be their best staccato gunfire recording. Their second album "Surf Drums" (6/63) included the local hit Rik-A-Tik (4/63) a fourth single. "Surf City" a third album primarily contained surfed up versions of others tunes including: The Tornadoes Telstar and Cole Porter's Night and Day. The descriptively titled fourth album "The Great Surf Hits" was released 9/63. Half of their final album "Surfin' South of the Boarder" (11/63) contained recordings by "The Surf Mariachis".
Lively Ones' recordings were built around, reverb-drenched Fender guitars, augmented with the occasional raunchy sax break. Releasing five albums in a year left them lacking in original material but their surfified cuts make for a nice cross section of the songs the kids loved to hear. They were a local smash for a reason on listen of "The Lively Ones: Hang Five!!!" and you will find out why.
