ONLY FOREVER
(Monaco, Burke)
The movie Rhythm on the River provided Bing his third No. 1 hit of 1940. Johnny
Burke got the
idea for "Only Forever" from an expression he heard Bing use. Bing recorded the
song July 3 with
John Scott Trotter's Orchestra, and by fall it had shot to the top of the
Billboard charts, where it
stayed for a whopping 9 weeks! All together, "Only Forever" spent 20 weeks on
the Billboard
charts.

Do I want to be with you
As the years come and go?

Only forever

If you care to know.

Would I grant all your wishes

And be proud of the task

Only forever

If someone should ask.

How long would it take me

To be near if you bechon?

Off hand I would figure

Less than a second.

Do you think I'll remember

How you looked when you smile?

Only forever

That's puttin' it mild.

How long would it take me

To be near if you bechon?

Off hand I would figure

Less than a second.

Do you think I'll remember

How you looked when you smile?

Only forever

That's puttin' it mild.
