The Dawes Commission - This was part of the Indian Affairs bureau of the US. On their census are many ESCOE names. They are part of the Black Creek Indians of Alabama. (Freedmen) Escoe names claim 1/8 Indian blood. Wife of Thomas Jefferson Escoe was Mary Mahalia Barheche, daughter of full blooded Creek Indian Unip Bareche. These names are their descendants.
Mulatto: There are Escoe names in census's that list the children as "mulatto" or white and probably Indian mixed bloodlines.
