Descendants of John LANDRUM

John and his brother James migrated from Scotland to the Virginia Colonies and settled in Rappahannock (later Essex) Co. Virginia.

            After John and Mary married, they lived in Spotsylvania Co. Virginia.
            On 7 Oct 1729 they sold 595 acres, part of a patent of Larkin Chew, for
            12,000 pounds of tobacco.  About 1754, he, and all of his sons except
            Thomas, moved to Orange (later Chatham) Co. North Carolina.  He lived
            there, on a plantation located on Rocky river at Landrum's Creek until
            his death in 1770.

                   to Orange (later Chatham) Co. North Carolina.  In 1774
                   he moved his family to St. Paul's Parish (later Warren Co.) Colonial
                   Georgia, and lived there until his death.

                          John brought his family from Warren Co. Georgia, to the Tombigbee
                         Territory, in 1803.  John, Zachariah, William, and Joseph all brought
                         their families and settled near St. Stephens, in Washington Co.
                         Mississippi Territory, which became Clarke Co. Alabama.  Zachariah
                         lived  across the Tombigbee River, in Washington Co. Alabama.  Zachariah
                         must have arrived prior to the rest of the Landrum's, since he signed a
                         memorial to Congress 25 Nov 1803, about the time his brothers wer
                         applying for passes through the Creek Indian nation.  John was there by
                         27 Nov 1804, when he signed a petition to President Jefferson.William
                         and Joseph returned to Georgia in 1808.  The first court held in  Clarke
                         Co. was held in the home of John Landrum.  During the Creek War of
                         1813, John's home became Ft. Landrum, a place of refuge for area settlers.

                            After John Landrum died in 1816, Catherine married Samuel Wilson,
                           and nineteen days later, Avery married his new step-sister, Mary.
                           Samuel's and Catherine's merged famalies moved to Marengo Co.
                           James married Nancy and lived near his brother at Dixon Mills.  Their uncle
                           Zachariah took his family to Montgomery Co. Tejas y Coahila in 1829.
