I get all the headlines for newswires such as Wall Of Sound, SonicNet etc..., Music Station websites such as MTV, Much Music etc..., and other websites such as BillBoard. If you can find any new headlines please e-mail me them to me with the date and the source.

I won't keep all the headlines because it will take up a lot of space if I do. I will only keep the headlines for the past 2 months and ones that seem to be important. I have to shorten some of the long headline titles because they take up space in the chart and the ruin the appearance of it, also I have to shorten some of the headline stories because some parts of it have nothing to do with BSB.

Talk about a good week--first, the Backstreet Boys sell out their entire tour, some $30 million worth of concert tickets, in one day; now comes word they retained the No. 1 position at the nation's record stores.
The teen-dream, Florida-bred act sold 250,000 units of their record Millennium, which is now certified at five-times platinum (5 million units shipped) and climbing. The pop quintet can credit a heavy TV presence, with promotions running on MTV and the Disney Channel, for its super week.

Fellow Floridians, rock-hop act Limp Bizkit, came in at No. 2 as Significant Other found another 192,000 lovers in the week ended August 15.

Meanwhile, further emphasizing this summer's dance pop trend, two more teen sensations danced into the No. 3 and 4 slots--Britney Spears with ? Baby One More Time, followed by Ricky Martin's self-titled album, both near the 139,000 mark.

With what figures to be a record-breaker for a non-soundtrack, non-benefit compilation, Now That's What I Call Music, Vol. 2 stayed in the Top 5 for a third week with sales of 135,000. The Runaway Bride soundtrack crossed the finish line at No. 6 and Kid Rock sprinted to No. 7 with Devil Without a Cause.

Violator: The Album, from the rap music company of that name, was the highest debut of the week at No. 8, selling 115,000 units. The disc features the likes of LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Mobb Deep and Q-Tip who has a hit hip-hop single.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Smash Mouth's Astro Lounge and a comeback album from Santana, a group now in its fourth decade and still able to open in the Top 10. The latest album, Supernatural had heavenly help from name guests like Dave Matthews, Everlast and members of the Fugees and Matchbox 10. It had first-week sales of 99,000 copies.

Other debuts included the No. 51 solo premiere from Rahzel, Make The Music 2000, Coko at No. 68 and Machine Head at No. 88.

    The Backstreet Phenomenon
    Date: August 17th, 99
    Source: E!Online

The Backstreet Boys seem to break records faster than they make them. The Florida quintet sold out their entire 11-week, 39-cities North American tour in record time Saturday, with most of the 765,000 available tickets getting snapped up within a mere hour.

"The Backstreet Boys are incredibly hot right now, and the young kids they appeal to are a very active demographic in the concert-sales market," says Gary Bongiovanni, editor-in-chief of Pollstar, a trade magazine covering live shows.

Tickets were priced from $28.50 to $38.50, and final sales estimates rolled in around $30 million. Records were set from Birmingham to Boston, as fans formed mile-long lines and jammed the Ticketmaster phone lines and Website.

Members of the screaming, Backstreet-worshiping masses, who actually scored tickets, were justifiably ecstatic. Those who missed out were downtrodden at the prospect of being shut out of a chance to see their idols on stage.

"I feel like someone took a knife and stabbed me in the heart," says one dejected fan on a Backstreet newsgroup (alt.fan.backstreet.boys) after hours of waiting in line for naught. "It's absolutely heartbreaking."

Other fans hope the multimillion-dollar statement will erase any New Kids on the Block disappearing act comparisons.

"Hopefully, this can rub off the boy-band image people label them with," writes another newsgroup participant. "They aren't flash in the pans or one hit wonders. They have the voices and the goods to stick around for years to come."

History doesn't bode well for the staying power of teen bands, however.

"They are incredibly hot now, but unfortunately, the landscape is lined with ex-teen stars," says Bongiovanni. "The fact of life is that their core audience has a very short attention span, and as they grow up, they turn more to other musical acts. The New Kids used to sell out stadiums, and three years later, they couldn't sell out a club tour."

Still, Backstreet's popularity shows no immediate signs of waning. The popsters reigned at the top of the album charts for the past 12 weeks, duking it out for No. 1 with Limp Bizkit, and their second album, Millennium, has sold more than 12 million copies since its May debut. Millennium holds the record for most albums sold in one week (1.13 million).

The tour opens in their hometown of Fort Lauderdale September 14 and ends in Tampa December 2.

Backstreet Boys Post Fastest Palace Sellout Ever for Their November 6 Concert, Eventually Filling up Three Shows in Less Than an Hour
    Date: August 14th, 99
    Source: PRNewswire

Multi-platinum pop/R&B vocal group Backstreet Boys' ``Into The Millennium'' Tour sold out The Palace's entire 20,000-plus seating configuration for three concerts on November 6, 7 and 8 in less than one hour when the shows went on sale today at 10 a.m.

The first show, November 6, sold out in a Palace-record eight minutes, surpassing Madonna's previous record of 10 minutes set for her October 23, 1993 concert. The feat is even more remarkable since the shows were sold the in the round, utilizing the entire Palace arena configuration of more than 20,000 seats and there was an eight ticket limit per customer.

The second show, slated for November 7, filled to capacity in 18 minutes, leading to a November 8 concert which sold out in 31 minutes.

The Backstreet Boys join a select handful of artists who have sold out The Palace for three or more consecutive nights including Garth Brooks, Neil Diamond, ZZ Top, Elton John and Michael Jackson.

The Backstreet Boys' ``Into The Millennium'' Tour at The Palace is presented nationally by MTV, Polaroid and Sears.

Backstreet Boys Back at No. 1

Two very different Florida acts continue their slugfest for the top slot on the music charts as Jacksonville-bred rapping rockers Limp Bizkit gives up the No. 1 spot to Orlando's teen dance popsters the Backstreet Boys.

After two months of trading places, the Boys from Disney World are back on top with sales of 233,000 of Millennium, according to industry sources. The heartthrobs, who just announced a 40-city tour, blazed past the Bizkit, who had a week at the apex following their controversial Woodstock '99 appearance. Their Significant Other was only 13,000 units behind, selling 220,000 copies for the week ended August 8. While Ricky Martin's self-titled album bumped up a notch to No. 3 on 144,000 units, it was the Runway Bride that picked up the most speed last week, with the soundtrack sprinting from No. 12 to No. 4 on sales of 139,000. Naughty schoolgirl Britney Spears skipped a grade to No. 5, while a compilation she is featured on, Now That's What I Call Music, Vol. 2 fell to No. 6 from No. 3.

The biggest bow of the week was from Memphis Bleek. Don't expect to find much Elvis influence on the No. 7 album Coming of Age, though--he's a hardcore rapper whose songs are filled with murder and drugs. He hails from Brooklyn's notorious Marcy Projects, where he grew up with rapper/producer Jay-Z. "Don't respect me just cause I'm down with Jay," he says. "I'm a grown man. Respect me for me. If you listen to my music, you'll know I don't write imaginary stuff. I write what I feel, see or went through." Coming of Age sold 118,000 copies.

Rounding out the Top 10: Kid Rock's Devil Without a Cause found another 110,000 worshippers at No. 8; Smash Mouth's Astro Lounge seated 108,000 new customers in ninth; and Destiny Child's Writing on the Wall was read by 100,000 new fans last week.

Blink-182 Spoofs Boy Bands With New Video

    Source: MTV

With Blink-182's new album, "Enema of the State," sailing past the million mark in sales, the band has just shot a new video for "All the Small Things," the follow-up single to "What's My Age Again?"

The video for "Small Things" was shot on August 5 and 6 on location at the Van Nuys Airport and Santa Monica Beach by Marcos Siega, the same director behind the nudist-lovin' clip for "What's My Age Again?"

In the new video, the guys spoof the current rage in boy bands, dressing in boy band-drag as members of the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync, and 98 Degrees.

With the completion of the video, Blink-182 plans to take the next few weeks off before launching a headlining tour of the U.S. in October.

Backstreet Sets North American Tour Dates
    Date: August 6th, 99
    Source: Billboard

Backstreet Boys have announced the full itinerary for their North American tour. The 40-date Into The Millennium outing will kick off Sept. 15 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Tickets for all shows will be available from Ticketmaster and the usual outlets starting Aug. 14; prices will range from $28.50 to $38.50, depending on the market. A full list of dates is included below.

The tour, which is sponsored by Sears, is tightly tied to a promotional campaign that the retail chain is holding in conjunction with the Jive group. Among the ads in Sears' promotional package are four 30-second commercials that spoof the '60s Beatles movie "A Hard Day's Night," instead showing a mob of female fans pursuing the five Backstreet Boys through the city. As the group members duck into restaurants and double-decker buses, the Boys' song "Larger Than Life" plays in the background.

In addition, Sears is holding a back-to-school sweepstakes that will give five fans the chance to win a $2,000 Sears shopping spree with their favorite Backstreet Boy, as well as an all-expenses-paid trip for four to the Millennium tour's closing night, Dec. 2 in Tampa, Fla.

Korn, Ricky Martin, Will Smith, TLC, Lauryn Hill, and Busta Rhymes are the leading contenders for Moonmen statuettes at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, as each received at least five nominations for this year's event, being held at New York City's Metropolitan Opera House on September 9.

Nominees for the 20 categories were announced by comedian Chris Rock, who will return to host the show after handing the 1998 VMAs, MTV VJ Carson Daly, and multiple nominee Ricky Martin during a press conference held this morning at New York City's famed Lincoln Center.

So far, Ricky Martin, the Backstreet Boys, and TLC have all signed on to perform at the 1999 VMAs, with additional bands and artists to be named in the coming weeks.

Coming off its thunderous weekend performance at Woodstock '99, Korn led all nominees by receiving nine nods for its "Freak on a Leash" video, a collaboration between graphic artist Todd McFarlane and the husband-wife directing team of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.

Latin sensation Ricky Martin, rapper-film star Will Smith, and TLC tied with six nominations a piece, as Martin was honored for his "Livin' La Vida Loca" clip, while Will Smith received four nominations for "Miami" and two for his "Wild Wild West" clip with Dru Hill and Kool Moe Dee, and TLC was recognized for its "No Scrubs" clip.

A little more than five months after her record-setting night at the 1999 Grammy Awards, Lauryn Hill led all female artists with five nominations for her "Doo Wop (That Thing)" video. Dreadlocked rapper Busta Rhymes also garnered five nominations, with four coming for his collaboration with Janet Jackson on "What's It Gonna Be," and a single nod for "Gimme Some More."

Others receiving multiple nominations include the Backstreet Boys, Eminem, Fatboy Slim, Jennifer Lopez, and Madonna, all of whom are up for four awards each.

    Backstreet Boys Continue Chart Domination

The Backstreet Boys' Millennium will top the Billboard 200 albums chart for a seventh week, having outsold thrash-rap band Limp Bizkit's Significant Other by about 10,000 copies in the week ending Sunday (July 25), according to sales figures released Wednesday (July 28) by SoundScan. Millennium has sold 4 million copies in under three months. Debuting this week on the Billboard chart will be hip-hop duo EPMD's Out of Business at #13, industrial band Powerman 5000's Tonight the Stars Revolt! at #46 and Latino rockers Los Lobos' This Time at #134, based on SoundScan numbers.

Once Again, Backstreet Boys Hold Off Limp Bizkit On Chart
    Date: July 28th, 99
    Source: SonicNet

The Backstreet Boys' Millennium will top the Billboard 200 albums chart for a seventh week, and it's a week that pretty much tells the story of the summer in music.

Limp Bizkit, the top-selling rock band in the U.S., whose Significant Other displaced the Backstreet Boys from the #1 spot for three weeks earlier this month, will hold firm at #2, and they'll be surrounded by pop, pop and more pop, according to sales figures released Wednesday (July 28) by SoundScan.

At the top of the chart, Millennium, which reclaimed the top spot from Significant Other a week ago, sold 235,192 copies for the week ending Sunday, about 10,000 more copies than Significant Other did. The Billboard chart, which is posted each Thursday, is based on SoundScan's numbers.

Millennium, which includes the current top-10 hit "I Want It That Way" (RealAudio excerpt), has now sold more than 4 million copies, according to SoundScan. Limp Bizkit's album, bolstered by the song "Nookie" (RealAudio excerpt), which the band played to a nearly out-of-control audience of moshers and crowd surfers Saturday night at Woodstock '99, has sold around 1.7 million copies.

    Backstreet Boys Not going Away
    Date: July 28th, 99
    Source: E!Online

This season may be remembered as the Summer of the Teens, as the pop charts continue to be dominated by the likes of the Backstreet Boys, whose Millennium remained at No. 1 for a second straight week with sales of 244,000. Adolescents also flexed their unusually focused buying power to keep Ricky Martin entrenched at No. 3 with sales of 165,000 and Britney Spears at No. 4 with 137,000 units. Preteens and teens don't always have this much chart clout, their summer entertainment spending is extremely diverse.

Rap-rock group Limp Bizkit, at No. 2 with sales of 235,000 copies of Significant Other, appears to be an exception, but they too have a fairly young audience. The group may also have been boosted by their Woodstock appearance, though their set was marred by sound-system problems.

Kid Rock was one of the few unqualified winners from the troubled festival that ended in riot. He turned in a show-stopping performance that was rewarded with sales of 96,000 and a jump from No. 11 to No. 7 for his Devil Without a Cause.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who saw the Woodstock crowd torch the venue during their encore, remained at No. 8 with sales of 94,000 units.

Live appearances also helped other Top 10 acts for the week ended July 24. Sarah McLachlan's Mirrorball spun up two spots to No. 5, as her Lilith Fair tour hits its stride, and Smash Mouth's Astro Lounge soared from No. 10 to No. 6 after being part of baseball's All-Star Game activities.

The Wild Wild West soundtrack continued south, dropping three spots to No. 9 on sales of 88,000, according to industry sources. Too $hort rounded out the Top 10 with Can't Stay Away.

The top debut of the lazy week was Long Island rap duo EPMD, whose retirement album Out of Business sold 72,000 for a No. 13 showing. Powerman 5000's Tonight The Stars Revolt! came in at No. 46, while Los Lobos' This Time howled at No. 135.

    Offspring Assault Backstreet Boys?
    Date: July 19th, 99
    Source: MTV

Backstreet Boys watch out: the Offspring are out to get you.

At an Offspring concert on Sunday in Berkeley, California, vocalist Bryan "Dexter" Holland bludgeoned the band members (or, rather, life-sized inflatable representations of A.J., Brian, Howie, Kevin, and Nick) with a bright orange whiffle bat as a crowd of frenzied fans cheered him on. When he was through with his dirty work, the band celebrated by launching into "Cool to Hate" from the 1997 album "Ixnay on the Hombre."
