The Shining Star Nick Carter | home
Interviews
Jan. 11
Host: moving away from the freakish world of mega million dollar
twins (the olsen twins) to just plain old brothers we've got nick
and Aaron Carter. They may be 8 years apart but the relationship
couldn't be any closer. Not too long ago real access was there when
the guys did something they've never ever done before they hit the
floor together. (they were practicing for the twister moves dance)
N: I ain't danced in like decades I got rust still in me
Host: it may have taken a little while for nick to warm up *nick
dancing*
N: damn! *Cackle kinda laugh*
Host: esp. with Aaron rubbing it in *Aaron rubs nicks face with a
towel*
A: Don't mess it up bro we got it
Host: but in not time at all the brothers carter got it all together
nailed the routine for a recent promotional appearance and fulfilled
a dream in the process *dancing*
A: alright we got this start it over
N: no no we got it this we got this man. I never danced with him
ever before and it was always like with the backstreet boys and my
dream was always to dance with him. And it was cool to see in the
mirror and what he was doing and how he was dancing and ya know and the whole time I'm thinking to myself I can't believe I'm dancing
with my little brother this is great. I call him Gumby *Aarons doing
a one handed handstand* see *Aaron falls*
A: I've always wanted to do what he did and I was about 2 years old
when he joined the backstreet boys so I can't even remember. I was
dancing before I was walking
Host: how cool is this even. Though Aaron is the baby brother by 8
years he's the one sharing the wisdom these days. Nicks just
launched his solo career while little bro's been doing it for years.
N: to see him succeeding and doing the things he's doing ya know and
I've been doing it for a while and had much success up and down but
to see him starting to not he hasn't even peaked yet and he's just
still rising so its cool to seeing it and ya know I love him to
death I think he's extremely talented
A: I think its cool that I can give him some advice now
N: yea you see that
H: it may be all back padding and cheerleading now but once upon a
time these two went at it everyday. And if you wanna get nick going
just use these words, Aaron, oak tree and machete
A: it was like a big oak tree and he was too fat to climb up the tree
N: ya know he makes fun of me because he says I'm fat but the fact
is he's like olive oil the male version
A: till this day there's still a chunk a he went and got a machete
and tried to chop the tree down
N: I did not. Ya know your going to get me in trouble with a lot of
girls out there like little girls are gonna be like trying to hurt
me and stuff
A: no didn't you try to chop that tree down
N: cause I was playing around yea I mighta tried to chop the tree
down. You should be a writer or something you could write some
stories
A: you used to hang me up in a Laundromat in Germany *Aaron says
laundry-mat*
N: I did not!
A: yea when you weren't anybody
N: what!
A: when you were nobody they used go to Laundromats and get quarters
and do their laundry. And him and Brian would hang me up in the
store and leave me there and walk out
N: I'm serious I think he's like tormented and I didn't even know
about it. I think all this stuff has been stuck in his mind and he's
gotta get it out somehow. This kid makes up more stories than Doctor
Seuss
A: NO! I'm telling and that wasn't the truth and that wasn't funny
Host: and here's a little known fact about Aaron and nick carter. If
you ever find yourself walking behind the guys at the mall or
something (like that'd ever happen!) and want to get their attention
forget shouting out their names call their nicknames. At one time or
another Aaron has been called airhead or airboy and nick has
answered to kaos and mister hyper man. We can't vouch for whether
they like their names so don't sue us if they freak out
Thx to frackgrl1128

Nov. 01
DJ: Well there’s a reason for that and this is a great point to bring Nick carter in.
Hey Nick
Nick: Yo what’s up
DJ: How are you doing man
Nick: I’m good man just waking up
DJ: Alright…at 9.15?
Nick: Well I’m in Vancouver right now
DJ: Oh okay I got ya
Nick: Yeah I’m getting on a plane to see you all (or something)
DJ: Cool it’s gonna be a fun night tomorrow night
Most fans that have bid on this suit have been pretty cool about it ‘hey just let me know if my bid is the highest bid’ but there’s one group of people that have gone way above and beyond almost a fanatical standpoint to a fanatical status
Female DJ: Nick I’m sure you’re a very nice guy but your fans are psycho
*laughter*
Nick: Like artist like fan right?
Female DJ: Huh?
DJ: Like artist like fan
*laughter*
Female DJ: Like absolutely crazy I’ve spend yesterday probably for a grand total of 4 hours arguing with your fans thru the instant messenger because they tracked down my screen name and were yelling at me because they didn’t happen to get the what 4 / 5 pairs or sets of tickets that we had to meet you
Female DJ: they’re very mean (talking thru Nick)
Nick: They’re crazy, I love them to death you know ehm they’re a special breed of fans you know what Im saying and ehm you know they do crazy stuff sometimes ehm they show their love in that way you know what Im saying
DJ: Would passionate be a polite word to describe them?
Nick: definitely, Well it’s a heart of passion you know what Im saying it’s the same kind of person I am you know what Im saying
I’m a passionate person about the things I do so..
Female DJ: Well you have…
Nick: Well you know ehm I love it I love seeing them go crazy it’s fun
DJ: Dude one woman is flying in from Germany to hang with you
Nick: Oh man! *laughing*
Female DJ: Germany, New York, well the Tampa lady is the one
who’s really pissed.
*laughter*
DJ: Lady in Tampa you know this Tampa chick she’s nuts anyways
Female DJ: freaky yeah she didn’t get tickets but if she happens to find a way to show up stay clear of her
DJ: Now we auctioned these offers(?) Nick ehm for the thing that we do here in Atlanta its eh a charity Bert put together, he started the radio show where he takes ehm kids down to Disney world once a year. It’s called Bert’s big adventure. And Ive been waiting for the opportunity to Launch Jack’s(?) Big Adventure which is just gonna be taking me and friends of mine to las vegas for a weekend ehm nobody’s sick and I think Im gonna do that as now that I have your cell phone number Im gonna auction that off.
*laughter*
DJ: I’d be able to fund the trip for 3 years
*laughter*
Nick: You know ehm the funniest thing is I had to change my last number that I had cuz I had this number, God knows why I had it for so long but I had it for like 2 years and ehm I guess I just gave it to the wrong girl or something like that and it got placed all over the internet and so I was like, it was like crazy and I had to change it and you know but ehm uh yeah I think that will be a problem
Female DJ: What’s her name? Karen?
*laughter*
DJ’s together: From Tampa *laughter*
DJ: Hey Nick what’s the most passionate, some would say passionate some would say psycho, but what’s the most passionate thing that a fan has done to attract your attention?
Nick: Ehm I’ve had like ehm fans write songs and poems and stuff like that. I’ve got like 6 books of poems, I’ve had ehm I’ve, you know like I’ve had people write songs and you know send cd’s and stuff like that and ehm and they have songs that were actually written TO me and stuff like that. So that’s really passionate cause you know and that’s how I am too with the music cause you know I write songs in that way you know what I’m saying. I mean I, I write them to ehm you know from what my feelings and stuff like that and if they feel in a certain way they feel some way about what I’m doing or about how I am they express it in that sense(?) and then also too you know ehm showing up places coming from different places just like you said Germany of had a lot of people come from like Europe(?). A lot of people come…I’ve had a lot of people come from Japan cause I ehm I’ve did pretty good in Japan too. So ehm they definitely come from there
DJ: You got a couple of seconds to take some phone calls from ehm, well we call them psycho you call them passionate, fans?
Nick: Heck yeah
DJ: Alright, Hey Nicky
Nicky: Hey
DJ: You’re on hits Q100 with Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys
Nicky: Well hi there Nick how are ya?
Nick: What’s up how are ya doing?
DJ yelling: Did you get my song?!
*laughter*
DJ: I’m flying in from Germany right now
Nicky: Yeah just you just you make fun but ehm I’m the one who sniffed him in Toronto
DJ: Aaawwwww….sniffed him in Toronto?
Nicky: Well when he was on the elevator and he kinda was up against me and I sniffed him I couldn’t speak but I sniffed it was all good. *laughs*
DJ: Now Nick you hear a story like that and you think uh oh that’s cool that’s passionate?!
*Nicky laughing*
Nick: Damn that’s more than passionate
DJ: *laughs*That’s more like psycho!
Female DJ: Yeah
Nicky: No I’m not psycho, I’m not a psycho
Nick: I didn’t, I just didn’t realize that she did that. You didn’t…you were in the elevator with me?
Nicky: Uh huh in Toronto right after September 11 and actually they ehm they ehm actually I met you last actually in personally actually spoke to you last year at the boat races at 8PBA(?) you actually videotaped my little girl in the elevator with the floadies on
DJ: Are you following him around the country?
Nicky: No actually I live, I live here in Atlanta and my ehm we went to a family vacation to Savannah and they were at the boat races so I entered that…I had a friend that worked with the boat races or whatever so she hooked me up with doing ehm cuz Im a nurse so I did like driver’s physicals and stuff and Nick and his family were there and so that was cool I got to meet them, it was neat and they’re good people.
Nick: hehehe thank you
DJ: Yeah not really much you can say on that huh Nick?
Nicky: Yeah
*laughter*
Female DJ: Thanks for sniffing me
*laughter*
DJ : Alright. Hey Nick as I’m on the internet yesterday and I’m trying to do my homework cause we were gonna talk to you today and it’s virtually impossible to do any kind of research on you cause to discover what is rumor from what is truth is nearly impossible so I wanted to throw a couple of these things out at you and you can either say yes its true or say no it’s just a rumor
Nick: Alright cool
DJ: Ok eh A: you dated Britney Spears
Nick: No
DJ: Not true?
Nick: No it was funny because ehm she, one of her ex bodyguards was eh, I guess she’d had something for me like when I was like younger we were touring over Europe just before she started dating Justin and ehm you know when she broke up with him you know she gave me a call on my cell phone and left a message on my phone and this was like right when she had broke up with him. And she was like you know this is not you know ehm you don’t hear every time my phone calls so I was expecting a phone call to sue my friend who was a bodyguard at the time. And so ehm I just I never got back to her and I was supposed to go out to like this pepsi challenge eh pepsi race that she was doing and I was like I ain’t flying all the way over the west coast for somebody. I don’t care who they are you know what I’m saying but I anyways that’s kinda how it ended up like that and I never really did get a chance to hang out with her at all.
DJ: Well then that brings us into rumor number two that there is a rivalry between you and Justin Timberlake, that kinda started with the BSB and N sync but it continued when the two of you released albums in the week of the same album
Nick: Yeah it was pretty ehm it was pretty weird how it happened ehm you know my record company kinda like dropped the album around the same time like that and actually it was my ehm it was my past management that did it, the Firm and I really didn’t want to be released around the same time because he was definatly coming off you know a lot of things that were happening with his relationship a lot of stuff that was helping him out you know what I’m saying. And really People knew me from the Backstreet boys as Nick from the Backstreet boys. They really didn’t know me as an individual. They knew Nick from the Backstreet boys so uhm it had released and so I was like I worked my ass off trying to pull as much as I could and its also a different sound from everyone was used to hearing so that happened the way it did you know it was good though at the same time. People saw even though that competition got involved I’m not afraid of anything I don’t care. Okay you know what I’m sayin’ I’m just here to make music and to entertain people who want to be entertained.
DJ: Rumor number 3. You have a couple of kids that you don’t talk about publicly.
Nick: a couple of kids? Nah, I definatly don’t have kids.
DJ towards female DJ: did you have your hand up?
Other DJ: nah I was just stretching my arm.
Female DJ: I have one. Rumor number 4 is from a reliable source. We talked to your band mate Brian just a couple of days ago. He was saying that there might be a new Backstreet record.
DJ: before you answer that there’s a bit talking about it.
Sound file Brian: “And on the guys tip with the group I'm actually talking with the guys and nothing's set in stone just yet but you hear it first on Q100 about possibly the guys getting back into the studio at the beginning of the year and making another record”
DJ: ok Nick carter what’s going on with that?
Nick: Yeah definatly. I mean we’re all communicating right now and we’re talking. And uhm I think that’s the most important thing. People don’t realize that we’ve been doing this for a long time. We’ve been in the group for 10 years together you know what I’m saying. I was in the group since I was 11. I started when I was 11 years of age you know. You know how young that is and you know uhm time went bye and people grew up you know some ppl wanted to do different things. Me personally I really wanted to pursue like a solo thing. Do something just by myself and I have experienced that. So I have done that I definatly want to do another record you know what I’m sayin’ but uhm right now if we can work it out and we can get a Backstreet record going. I’m in the studio with them.
DJ: cool and it looks like January is the date or the month that you’re all looking to do that?
Nick: there’s nothing set in stone right now. You know cuz January I have to film a movie possible.
DJ: oh yeah?
Nick: there’s this movie called The brew. With films and its like a horror movie so I got casted for the lead role in this film so
DJ: oh cool! Congratulations on that.
Nick: yeah it was pretty cool. Actually the reason why I’m up in Vancouver is cuz I shot a movie with Carmen Electra, an mtv movie.
Dj: oh yeah that’s fun for the whole family.
Female DJ: did she teach you how to do a strip tease?
Lots of things I don’t understand.
Nick: yea, hehe
Dj’s talking don’t understand what they are saying.
Nick: she’s really a cool person you know. One of the coolest people that I ever met down to earth and no big headedness going on. But I did a little cameo coming up. She and MTV wanted me in the movie.
DJ: When I think of Carmen Electra I don’t think of a big head. You know that we’re talking about that psycho fan from Tampa?
Nick: hehe
DJ: yeah she’s on. Hey Karen.
Karen: yeah
DJ: are you the psycho fan from Tampa?
Karen: Yeah,
DJ: you’re on with Nick Carter.
Karen: hey Nick.
Nick: hey what’s up?
Karen: Nothing. I’m not a psycho fan from Tampa. I am from Tampa. You met me and my roommate several times. We’ve never been psycho.
Nick: That’s cool.
Female DJ: You met him several times?
DJ: right
Nick: I call it passion.
DJ: remember there was this one time you caught us in your garden? And there was this other time we were in your kitchen?
Nick: yeah
Karen: I’m not a psycho fan. I’ve never attempted to go to the carter house.
DJ: Common? You must have thought about it?
Female DJ: you know where it is?
Karen: no
Female DJ: you know the alarm code
DJ: Karen how old are you?
Karen: im 20.
DJ: what do you do for a living?
Karen: I work at a hospital.
DJ: do you have a boyfriend.
Karen: as a radiologist assistant.
DJ: do you have a boyfriend?
Other DJ: yes and his name is nick.
Karen: you guys are so lame! We need one ticket.
Female DJ: you are calling us from Tampa.
Karen: actually no we’re in GA.
DJ: driving in right?
Karen: yeah
DJ: so you’re coming to hang out with us and you’re calling us lame?
Karen: Well no, you just start dissing me and you don’t even know who I am.
Female DJ: we putt you one the phone with Nick Carter.
Female DJ: we’re just teasing.
Karen: you putt me on the phone with nick carter and you don’t even let him talk.
Female DJ: guess what? You talk to him. He’s on the phone.
DJ: but she knows
Karen: nothing I’m just a little upset. This radio station thinks that they can diss me and they don’t even know me.
Nick: haha nah look
Dj interrupts Nick.
Karen: I think its funny
Female DJ: omg
Nick: talk to me, talk to me real quick. Tell me what’s up. silent hello?
Karen: yeah?
DJ:
Karen: I don’t know why they call me psycho. Im trying to find a ticket because I won one ticket from the suit. And my room mate …
Girl gets interrupted
Female DJ: lalalaa
Dj’s: sorry Nick.
DJ: we thought she was gonna ask an intelligent question since she’s a huge fan of yours.
Nick: HAHAHAHa
DJ: alright we’re going to see you tonight. Saturday night over at the Hawks game right,.
Nick: right
DJ: who’s a better basketball player you or brian littrell?
Nick: I guess we’re going to find out huh?
DJ: he was talking all kind of smack. He’s going over you, throwing elbows at you.
Nick: I’ve been playing ball when he’s sitting at home
DJ:
Nick: so you’ve been bow wow?
DJ: you see he’s coming into the game. And who else is coming? Frankie Muniz is going to be there! Who else? Coolio
Nick: who else?
DJ: Coolio is gonna be there also.
Nick: are you serious? Coolio? I saw him the other night at the radio music awards.
DJ: actually I think Coolio bailed.
Female DJ: Coolio bailed.
DJ: they traded dean kane and Coolio for little bow wow.
Female DJ: they did?
DJ: yeah cuz Dean Kane has this new movie coming up. He’s doing the scott peterson story. The scott Peterson tv movie. He cancelled And then Coolio I don’t know what came up. Gangster paradise
Nick: well uhm, I talked to him the other night. He had like red contacts in for Halloween and stuff it scared the frog crap out of me.
Laughing
Nick: im not even joking. I was like its Coolio but it looks like a crazy Coolio.
Laughter again.
Nick: he looked happy I was going over to him. I dunno he was like bite me or something like that.
Laughter again
DJ: hey nick, we’re looking forward to hanging with you on Saturday night man!
Nick: eye one. (sp?)
DJ: thanks a lot man! bye

The following was posted by Aline @ LD:
J- What I told on the microphone was “Oh God! If this turns into a food fight, this’s gonna be a mess cause this cake is huge.” At that point, Michael Jackson turned to you and Aaron and said something like “I dare you” or something like that, and your little brother, crazy little Aaron [me: lol], checked a huge hunk of cake and smashed Michael Jackson! At that point, I kinda lose track, you know, like this cake kinda flying everywhere. Michael turns to me with this giant hunk of cake and goes … I said “Hit me, dude!” [me: he called MJ “dude”!!!] cause it’s Michael Jackson, and he says, of course, “Are you sure?” I’m like “Bring it!” and he just clouded (???) me with cake. All I saw about you, I saw about Nick leave the stage and you had cake all over your face!
N- Oh my goodness!! I got this brand new, like, Nike outfit and it was like … white! I don’t know, maybe it was like white-blue or …. No, no, no, no, my bad, it was blue. It was like this nice blue [me: no, Nick, it was indeed white-blue – white with blue stripes on the shoulders and arms] and this cake is white, dawg! And all I know is I get out, that we go to Michael Jackson’s house, cause he’s got that regular house goin’ on and stuff, and Mike takes me to the backroom and he’s like, you know, “You need something to wipe it off” and I’m like “Dude, look at this freakin’ outfit! I just bought this today!” [at that point, JoJo’s laughing his head off] And it was something like suede cross velvet suit, and it’s got white cake all the way down to my pants! [me: take it off! Take it off!] I swear to God I look like a victim! Victim of a ???! ??? by cakin’! I was so upset! But it was cool, I mean, they got me some clothes and we all chilled out, and Chris Tucker showed up … and me and Chris Tucker, Rodney Jerkins, my brother and Michael we was all just chillin’ in this one room. [me: that’s “we were chillin’”!!] That was nice.
J- All the piece you did on the new song that Michael’s releasing, and … nice job on this as well, man!
N- You know what’s so funny, it’s that we recorded it like a year ago. Maybe a little longer than a year ago, and I couldn’t believe they actually put me in! I’m like, I heard it from my manager. My manager’s like “You gotta sign off this thing,” and I’m like “Wait a minute, it wasn’t supposed to go through” but I guess it did so …
J- Yeah, it did. I know you get to see it on the Radio Music Awards tonight. It actually features a lot of artists, similar to the “We Are the World” thing a while back. Updated version of that new song, an amazing song, and Luther Vandross is on it…
N- Yeah!
J- And that’s pretty well. Give me some news on your next CD coming out, got a couple of movies, … that’s what I’m hearing, right?
[me: that’s when the interesting stuff starts!!!]
N- Yeah, man! I’ve been trying, like … it’s like the 3 Minutes With Chris Burmin (??? and sp?), man, I gotta get this out real quick
J- Do it, dude!
N- What I do is, first of all, on the movie side, I’m going to Canada in 2 days and I’m shooting a movie with Carmen Electra. It’s like a funny, spoofy type of movie, whatever, so I’m doing this cameo. [me: now, why didn’t you tell us about this one? We want details!!] Then, a couple of days after, I gotta do a meeting back in LA with this director who directed the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” …
J- ??? [sorry, didn’t get it]
N- Yeah, pretty much! And he directed the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and he also did “Jeepers Creepers 2”…
J- My favourite movie!
N- I never saw it!!!
J- You never saw “Jeepers Creepers”?!
N- I saw the original!
J- Oh, you didn’t see part 2?! They’re both good!
N- Yeah, so anyways, I’m going to meet with them. They’re casting me for. So that’s on the movie side, and then we should … Lions Gate Films [me: isn’t that Nicolas Cage’s company?] is already involved, distributing it and everything, so that we start in production in January, some time like that. And on the album side, I’ve been in the studio with Rodney Jerkins, Damon Elliott, even my man Snow from up in Canada … I gotta talk to you about this!
J- Oh, dude, OK!
N- I gotta talk to you about this! I’ll talk you on later. I approached Snow cause, I mean, Snow and I have been friends for a little while and I went up in Canada and thought with a bit of chance we might bring him down and reintroduce you to, like, the people of America cause he hasn’t been in America in like 10 years! [me: I haven’t been in America in nearly 12 years, thank you very much! For some people, not going to America in decades is not such a big deal, you know]
J- Did he do that song “Informer”?
N- Yeah!
J- I’ve never met him but I know who you’re talking about
N- This man is so talented, you know. ??? [didn’t get the next sentence, sorry] I got back with him, you know, and we decided to do some stuff so I wanna bring him back down in and reintroduce him. He’s probably gonna do some track with me on my next record.
J- Bring him in!
N- He’s gonna do a track with me, but I’m going back to dance, like dance–rock type of stuff, maybe a little bit … you know how like Andre 3000 (???) kinda do, like it’s really funky type of mix, type of music, you know what I’m saying?
J- Kinda like hip-hop
N- It’s a hybrid, it’s like a hybrid. It wouldn’t be hip-hop or maybe a little more pop mixed like rock with a little bit of a dance twist
J- I think I ??? to put the word, but I know what you’re talking about, that kinda feel
N- Yeah. So I’m getting back in the dancing again, I’m back to … you know, that stuff that made me what I was in the Backstreet Boys, you know, and a lot of people didn’t get a chance to see who I was and what I really was capable of, and so now I’m pulling all the codes out (???)
J- See, I’m really excited for you guys. I talked to Howie yesterday, he was pumped about what’s going on for you as well
N- Yeah, and the Backstreet Boys too, you know, we…
J- Yeah, I know where you’re going, and pumped about the potential day you’re coming back together in the future after the solo projects are gone some … time, you know
N- Yeah. The great thing about it is that we’re all communicating and we’re straight, you know what I’m saying? People never … you know, they thought that maybe we weren’t getting along or some stuff was going on. Now we just gotta take some time away cause 10 years have gone by and we’ve been working our asses off for so long, and we took some time down. We’re communicating on a level towards we wanna get back in the studio, do another record. Now, whether or not is it gonna be … probably not gonna be the first quarter or towards the first part of this next year, but it probably we get into the studio like middle of next year.
J- So Backstreet fate is no bottom line? You guys are still a family and something’s gonna happen as a group eventually?
N- [gets overexcited now] Yeah! Yo! Eventually! And I think it’s better, you know … listen, I …
J- A little anticipation, a little more tease, as opposed to just a *sticks tongue out* and here it is!
N- [he talked really fast here, so I did my best to figure out what he was saying] Yeah, you know, it’s like we get more break, a little more break. People break – make it last for a second! Let’s not, like, trouble, like … overdo it, you know what I’m saying, and try and get everything we can out on the market, or whatever, you know. It’s not about that. It’s not about, never was about that … it’s about music [me: Amen]
J- OK, got it. I think we’re having a wrap-up, dude. I’ll see you tonight .I’m gonna be on the RMAs, I’m gonna be on NBC tonight. I’m doing a piece with you.

Review of Nick on WNCI on Oct. 23,2003 -Ohio
The following was posted by Nick -N- Boys @ LD
Basically in a nutshell, not word for word, so don't quote me on everything . lol but he was talking aobut........................
* They all say Hi. All three of them. then boogie was talking a lot of funk, and then Nick started laughing, and said we would definitely be able to tell the three of them apart. lol
*they all agreed to take calls from viewers, Nick said that is cool....Hot. lol
* Talked about getting calls from all over, even United Kingdom.
* A girl told him blow your mind was awesome. Also asked him if he was going to tour again, and he said YES. He said he was first going to do a movie in January, another Horror film, then, he said he should be done recording in Feb.
He also said he loves Rock, so he will still be playing the drums, and guitar (in his show/tour), and he will also have dancers this time around. He will do some dancing too.
He also said he is doing some rock still, with some more urban based sounds. Backs to roots, but still is doing rock, and playing his own instruments too. (sounds to me, a little bit of everything).
Nick told Snow to say What's up. lol talked about singing with him in Canada, and said it was cool, and he too, loves reggae (sp?) music.
She told him, he was very taleted. She does her own video show. Tells Nick to come to her show, and that she is from New York State College.
* Nick talks about Being born in Jamestown, New York. the studio dude is from there too.
*Girl asked Nick is relationship status......Said he is definitely single, she asked what he was looking for, he joked about a girl, being dark brown eyes, size 6 feet, Boogie chimes in wsomeone with a good heart, and Nick said =it was Boogie, and he said he doesn't care, anyone.
* Said he had a talk with all the guys mar/Apr next year, said it depends.
* said to wave to web cam. he said to who, and she said, everyone at Live daily.
he repeats, "live daily". lol
* he then tries to introduce Boogie, and Snow, because this show is totally all about Nick. lol

Nick Carter, 23, always has been one of our favorite backstreets boys. In this interview, answered for email after two weeks of much insistence, he was supercalm. "I am resting before hitting the road again", he said, on a break of Now or Never, Tour, his solo album. "Soon I will be doing shows in Mexico."
Nick tell us that his favorite program for Valentine's Day is to travel. "You get away from everything and if can concentrates in who is with you." But he confesses that he did that only a few times. "What I usually do in this day is to bought abeautiful gift, to take the girl to dinner and later going to a club with her, or seeing a movie."
Capricho: people use to say that they are afraid of fall in love, but not to have sex. Wouldnt it have to be the the opposite, since it is the sex that puts the people in risk?
Nick Carter: Ok, this one deserves some thinking! it's more complicated to fall in love then to have sex. When you have sex, you put your body into it, but not necessarily your mind and soul, that are much more difficult to deal with. When you fall in love you put in the game each element of yourself: body, soul, confidence, mind, devotion. You are more open in a relationship.
When the first kiss is not good is it a signal it's worth to insist on that person ?
Of course you can insist. After all it's just a first kiss right ?
What a fate need to have to be unforgettable ?
Chemistry has to work. I like people who has a good sense of humor are shy; women who act naturally by my side. Sometimes people are not natural with me because I am "the" Nick Carter. It's good to have a casual date, to be able to go to any place, to do anything without planning ahead. She needs to be spontaneous, this is the word that I was looking for.
To be good, a relationship has to have...
Confidence, sincerity, understanding.
Who loves not cheat? Or cheat ?
Another difficult question! Who loves not cheat ? Well, if the human beings were perfect, I think that would be true. But they are not, right ? Who cheat can trully love its partner, but be immature or not know how to speak about problems that might be happening. It's not an excuse, but it happens with so much frequency...
A betrayal can kill a great love?
Certainly. Trust is something you have to earn and it's the base of any relationship. It's difficult to forgive, specially when if you are together for some time. If you are not able to trust the person you are with, you have a great problem !

D=Danielle N=Nick
D - Hey there it's Danielle and look who I've got with me, I've got you!
N - It's little Nicky
D - Well it's good to see you, I haven't seen you in a little bit. You're on your first solo tour. How's your first solo tour going?
N - It's good, it's really good, um, the only really problem, well it wasn't really a problem, well I guess it was. We um, at the very beginning of the tour, um, because we've been doing North America, a little bit of Canada and down in the States. There was this big storm that came through, a blizzard through the north east. It caused me to have to postpone 2 or 3 of my shows. My tour manager came to me and was like either we can put the shows on the back end or we can try to do something that really never has been done before, not many people like to do it, and that's 10 shows in a row. So I've got 10 shows in a row and this is my 6th.
D - Wow, well you're on the end of it now.
N- Yeah, it's kinda, I've never down it before. I never really had to assume the role of singing a whole show by myself, cause I've been with the boys. But, now I do an hour and a half show. Ya know, I have to really take care of my voice. It's kinda tough.
D - How is it touring on you're own, without the guys?
N - Well, it's a whole different environment, ya know. Rock style type of music, smaller venues. I personally wanted to do that because I wanted to give back to the fans. Ya know, a little bit more of a closeness. I mean, I'm playing smaller places, smaller crowds. But I like that personality (?) better.
D - Do you think performing solo has made you a better performer yourself?
N - I think so. I really think so. I mean, being in the Backstreet Boys, the one thing is it's always been a group effort, not one person really stood out. And that's the way we wanted it, kinda like a group effort thing. And what I wanted to do was satisfy that little fire inside of me, take some time off and do some solo touring. And it really has turned me into, I think, a better performer, entertainer and um, I've really been able to work on my voice. Ya know, your voice is like a muscle, and I've been working that muscle every single night. It's been a lot of fun.
D - You've been doing really well on our chart "Help Me" went to #1. "DIHTCFY" DEBUTED at #1
N - Wowww..
D - And we just got "I Got You" and it's doing really really well. And that video, which I thought was so cool, I know you're sorta like this water enthusiast. How was that, shooting that video?
N - That video, in a way kind of, one of my dreams came true. I've always wanted to sail around the world in a really big, big sailboat. And that one was like 120 feet long. It was just amazing, like being on one of those pirate ships back in the day. The wind was really strong that day. I actually shot in in my home town in the Florida Keys, Key West. It was really sunny that day. That same day I actually had to get on a plane to Detroit. Going from hot weather to cold weather. It was freezing that day. That video, it really did satisfy my um, dreams.
D - Aw, I bet.
Next week is part 2.

Nick Carter: Interview in Japan
With a his highly anticipated solo debut album out, the popular Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has just arrived to Japan for some promotions. There were events held, and he got to hold a press conference on a airplane, making the Nick fans of Japan very happy. Admist that busy schedule, Nick agreed to do an interview with us at MTV Japan. On this page, we'll feature more of the interview that we couldn't fit on tv totally uncut. We also put up pictures from the interview and a report from the lucky contest winner, enjoy!
MTV: Hello, Nice to meet you.
Nick: Hello!
MTV: Congratulations on your solo debut. What made you decide to do a solo record?
Nick: It's something I've wanted to do since I was little. I love working with the Backstreet boys(from now on in the interview, BSB) I just wanted to try somethin new. I've always loved rock, so if I had an oppurtunity to ever do a solo record, I definately wanted to do rock. I worked in the studio mixing some tracks and thankfully I got a great response from the fans about the tracks. I made sure it wasn't too crazy. Basically, it was something I wanted to do ever since i was little.(lol he said it twice) I grew up listening to rock, my parents listened to rock, and BSB took a little break so I finally got a chance to fulfill my dream.
MTV: Any musical influences?
Nick: Bryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, Journey and David Bowie, I love all music. I even have R&B and Rap influences. I love it all.
MTV: So your music's got a wide variety.
Nick: Yup, a very wide variety. But that was my intent. I didn't want the whole album to just have the same sound, I made sure each track was somethin different. I thought that might be a little more fun. I wanted to make sure I had something for everyone. I wanted to make an album that fans can listen to over and over for a long time.
MTV: Your brother told us that your album was gonna be wild like Bon Jovi, but with a touch of BSB.
Nick: Yup.
MTV: It's a great album, it's nice to hear albums that you don't get bored with quickly. What do you think of yourself being a solo artist?
Nick: Right now, everything in the world of being a solo artist is brand new to me. Everything I want to do and everything I want to be is up to me. I want to have fun... however me wanting to have fun did get me into some trouble in the past...(laugh). I had to be a little more calmer in BSB, but now I can be a little more open. I can be crazy and be a little more free during my performances.
MTV: Like kicking the micstand? (laugh)
Nick: Yup, anything. (laugh) I can be me. If I can do that, everything's great. I just want to be me, not someone fake. I hate that.
MTV: So what's the meaning behind the album's title, "Now or Never"?
Nick: "Now or Never" is what I felt when I first went into the studio... There was a point where I didn't know if I was going to go through with the album or not. I was just experimenting with alot of different sounds and there were alot of things going on in my life that I wanted to write about. But because I went into the studio, I got to be more creative and I was able to make something new. And with that, I loved a new aspect of music. And so I thought that would be the time if ever to start working on my album.
MTV: So what was it like in the studio? Was it totally free styling?
Nick: I would just experiment with some lyrics in the studio and have a writer look over them with me, other times I just sang what was on my mind.
MTV: What kinds of situations gave birth to your songs. (lol ok that sorta sounded weird, sorry)
Nick: Alot of different things. Such as my past relationships, watching other people being in love, I wanted to show respect to the ladies(lmao)... just alot of different things. There were so many different things that I had to relisten to everything myself to make any sense out of it. First I just wrote whatever came into my head. I figured it's better to write from the heart than to make something up. I think the fans would get a deeper meaning out of the songs that way too. I think everyone wanted to hear the truth and not lies, definately.
MTV: So the songs on the album are about you or your expriences?
Nick: Yup, my expriences, or things I've seen growing up.
MTV: What song is your favorite? What song describes you the most?
Nick: My favorite song is definately "Do I Have to Cry For You". One of the reasons would be that was the first song that we listened to and first thought that I could actually do this solo thing. When I first got into the studio, no one really knew what I should do with the album. DIHTCFY was one of the first songs I wrote. Everyone liked that song and the record label also liked it and said they would let me do an album. After that I was able to write even more songs. I even remember how I felt when I first recorded that song. People told me that "It really sounds like your hurting when you sing that song, it seems like you're singing something that was in your heart" and that's how I felt. When I sing, I can release what I'm feeling inside. That's the only way I can say how I'm really feeling, through singing. That song is very emotional to me. That's why I love that song.
page 2
MTV: Do you ever sing a song for a special someone in your life?
Nick: (laughs) Right now, with all the promoting and stuff going on, I don't really have time to do much. But when I'm at home I do go to my friend's bar and sing. I love singing in a small place like that, to be so close to the crowd. I even sing to people that probably don't even like me. I'm hoping that I can get them to like me somewhat, even if they didn't like me at first ya know? I think that's possible with music. I think there's some people that don't like me, but like my music ya know? Even on my promotional tour now, there were some people that didn't like me or my music until they heard it and then they decided that my music wasn't bad at all.
MTV: So what's the difference between being solo and in BSB?
Nick: I think the biggest difference is obviously the music. When I'm solo, I sing more rock, while in BSB we sing more of a R&B flavored pop and we dance. When I'm solo, I play instruments, I'm on stage alone and I don't dance much. It's like a rock band. Those would probably be the major differences, but I'm having fun.
MTV: Do you feel more free?
Nick: I love what I do with the BSB. I still want to be with them and I'm not giving it up. Doing solo work is something completely new to me and I hope it connects with things I do in the future. If everyone likes the album, I would love to do more albums.
MTV: Maybe you can do even harder rock
Nick: Could be, you never know.
MTV: We know you support your brother Aaron as well, but what do you think of his works as an artist?
Nick: He's still really young and he's got alot to learn.(he didn't mean this in a negative way) But I'm sure he's gonna make it really big. he's got a very open lifestyle and he's sorta like me. I still have alot to learn myself. He's still a kid so he has plenty of time to learn alot of things about music and he'll have alot more experiences. I think he's gonna be a totally great artist.
MTV: What do you think about his records?
Nick: He sings pop so it's a little different than me but I like it. He doesn't really write his own songs yet but BSB didn't either at first. He'll probably grow as an artist soon.
MTV: It seems that you're gonna have a fan conference on a plane, how do you feel about being able to meet some of your fans?
Nick: It's one of the best things about being solo. I can be closer to fans and if I get a chance to sign stuff for fans, I have more time to do it. When I'm with the group, I have the other members around as well so I don't always have time to stop and sign things because of our schedules. If four of us want to go home and only one of us want to stay, everything doesn't work out exactly. But when I'm by myself, I have a little more time and I can say I'd like to take a little more time with the fans. To me, fans and my music are everything. I'm really happy.
MTV: Everyone's gonna be happy about that.
Nick: Me too. (laugh). If I'm happy, and if everyone else can be happy, then we can all be happy(laugh). (lol dork).
MTV: Your fans have cultures from all over the world, what do you think about that?
Nick: It's great. It's a wonderful thing. It's a great thing that music can bring so many people together and they can all share the love of that music. I didn't realize it when i was really young but musicians touch alot of people. A good song isn't just when someone says it's good, but a really good song is something that can give anyone some positive energy, and I think that's our job. I believe that energy makes the world go round, but right now there's so much negative energy in the world. Not everywhere, but there's alot of places. My job as an artist is to spread more positive energy throughout the world. I would love to spread the positive energy and hope that it helps the world even a little bit. I believe all music has the power to do that.
MTV: I believe that you can definately do that.
Nick: The chance came up, so I can't just let it go to waste.
MTV: So what are your plans coming up?
Nick: Right now, I'm just seeing how this goes, being solo. After this, I'm going back to America to do more promotions and I'm gonna be shooting a video.(this was from when he was first in japan, so it's not a new video i don't think) Right now, I'm trying to decide on the next single. It's really hard. The record label likes all the songs on the album so we're having a hard time trying to decide on what should be the next single. That's not exactly a bad thing though. After I shoot the video, I'm thinking about doing a tour. Then I can hopefully come back to Japan. I also want to attend the MTV Japan Awards. If there's a place someone wants me to come, I'll gladly go.
MTV: How bout a message for the fans in Japan?
Nick: To all the fans in Japan, thank you for all your love and support and "arigatou"(thank you in japanese). I really appreciate all the support you give to me as a member of the BSB and as a solo artist. I love you. Aishitemasu!(I love you in japanese...lmao he says this alot...aww) I hope you guys like the music I made for all of you guys. I can't wait to come back to Japan, Thanks for everything.

EOB: On the phone right now it is Nick Carter. Nick What up, What is going on?
NICK: Just chillin man, Hanging out.
EOB: Very cool very cool. Hey congratulations on the tour, How's it going so far?
NICK: Oh, It's going great, we just got back from Japan. Um sold out gig and everything so It's really hot.
EOB: Wow, How much different is it traveling by yourself, is there moments where you go "wow this is pretty good, I'm all by myself".
NICK: Well It's cool I do.. I definatly get alot of peace of mind, I get to like, you know, just think about things, and really let everything absorb, and you know, I'm learning new things being on my own. That comes with everything from music to personal.
EOB: And the new single is going to be "I Got You" which we will be hearing very shortly.\
NICK: That's like probably one of my favorite songs on the record.
EOB: The end of the month you'll be playing the probably one the coolest venues in all of Michigan. Clutch Cargo's in Detroit, Have you been there before?
NICK: I.. Don't believe I have , No.
EOB: It's very very cool you will..
NICK: I could be wrong! If I did it like along time ago, But I believe.. You know the cool thing about it you know, that I'm so happy That I can do smaller places. We've been blessed to big places, But when you start to doing them big venues and things like that people start to get further and further back in the crowd and you know, you know it's like, When we were doing it I was like "damn I wish we could do smaller places" So now that I'm doing the solo thing.. I can do that.
EOB: Do you find that doing the smaller shows re-energizes you as a musician cause you get to be so close to the crowd?
NICK: Oh yeah. it does everything, You, you get the energy from the crowd it just like hypnotizing, It's incredible. You know, That's the thing. we really, me and my band we we.. the kind of show we planned. Is a show that we can play with the crowds emotions. You know, Jump em' up. for you know. hold em' there you know. Then bring it back down. let em' smooth sail for a little bit. Then come back up with some more songs.. It's really up and down. It's such a high energy show.
And It's different too, Don't go there expecting to see like you know, dancing and typical Backstreet show, Because you know, what we specialize in with Backstreet Boys were singers, Now really that's what I'm doing the whole time is singing.
EOB: I called my cousin lastnight cause she is like the biggest Nick carter fan ever and I wanted to let her know so she could listen on the internet and she of course posted that on a message board that I was going to be talking to you, and I had about 725,000 emails, about when are you coming back to Europe.
NICK: Look, When I said we were coming back to Europe, and I'm coming back to Europe, we still going to come back there, and you know, Those fans over there, They mean just as much as the US and every place around the world. Because they were there in the beginning.
EOB: And after you get all this touring wrapped up is that when you guys are going to start to get back together, and maybe do another Backstreet Boys album?
NICK: Well... You see the thing is, That is something we have to discuss whether or not I either go back to Europe by myself or come back with the boys. You know what I'm sayin'. Because, You know in probably late March we are going to start recording a record possibly, you know and them um.. we are going to have it done probably around May or June and it might be a whole new ball game.
EOB: Nick, I know that you are super swamped so I'm going to let you go, Have a great rest of the tour and we will talk to you when you come back with the Backstreet Boys.

Heyy! okay so Nick is on DRQ tonight...i was up at the store in the car and they go "hey nick!...this is nick carter calling in" and i just booked it home! haha. So yeah, either go to the website, drqradio.com or turn in it on! I think he's going to be on more...
Woo k, he's done. The DJ asked if he gets tired of all the ladies and stuff and nick goes "would you get tired of it?" and the DJ just kind of laughed and nick goes "exactly!" and the DJ goes "well you get it 10x more than i do!" and nick goes "Man that's not true, you're a pimp, you're a dj, you're the man!"
Then he just talks about the show--It's an awesome show, they just got back from Japan and polished up there so they can show us what they're about. He says it's really a lot of fun and you wouldn't expect it. He also says how he plays the electric guitar and he does some acoustic BSB songs.
Then the DJ asked "backstreet boys...what when where how?" and Nick was just saying how they'll possibly start recording late march early april and maybe have an album out may/june.
DJ asked if there was sibling rivalry w/ him and aaron and aaron steeling his girls and he just said "he tries but ya know, that's my little brother, thats blood, the really is no rivarly."
The DJ also was like "well some of the guys are married, all the girls want to know whats up w/ you, you single?" and Nick was just like "Yaa, I'm still there, I'm in the game" (didn't sound too sure of it, but ya know!)...then the DJ asked about what a girl can do to get to him and he just said for her to be true to herself and that he's come across a lot of fake people and just to be real.
At the end he dedicated Do I Have To Cry For You to everyone and did the cute little Nick giggle. It was cute! About damn time he called the Detroit radio station!

Hey Nick was just on WBZZ in Pitsburgh just before he called into the MI station...Here's a recap I got from Lil Em on WDM....
He talked to Adam Bomb on BZZ in Pittsburgh 93.7 FM
He's chilling down in flordia.
He giggled at how cold it was up here..
He's sick on anitbiotics **hello sexy Nick voice**
Talked about the tour up here. Mostly all what we knew. Bsb songs, non album songs. Says the show is all energy high energy, uptempo entertaining.
The DJ asked him about working with other artists. He said that if he's going to rise or fall he's going to rise and fall on his own. IT's his time to do his thing himself.
The DJ asked who has better Japanese food here or Japan(Nick told the DJ he must have picked up the cold coming back for Japan)... the giggle and he said here.
Just basically said see him up here for the tour date.

Backstage A&Q With Nick (12-15-02)
Backstreet Boy Nick Carter has taken a break from his aging boy band. The pop sensation is going solo for the moment, like his little brother Aaron. Carter, 22, who has also tried his hand at acting, in the NBC series American Dreams, will showcase tracks from his debut disc, Now or Never, tonight at Q102's Jingle Ball.
Q: You and Justin Timberlake are leading parallel lives. You're both on hiatus from your primary gigs, your solo albums came out within a week of each other. Rumor has it that you've each had the same girlfriend this year. What's the connection?
A: Honestly, we lead two different lives when it comes to music. I don't even look at anyone outside of myself when I'm making music. Our albums are different. I wish him luck. As long as he's creating good music for the people out there, that's great.
Q: So is Britney Spears your girlfriend?
A: No. It never did happen. That was all just a rumor.
Q: Your album is more rock than anything Backstreet has done.
A: My album definitely has a different feel to it. It's all about showing the fans a new side. People want to hear something new and fresh. People get bored after a while, as I do. I want to bring a new flavor. It would be great to be like Madonna. Madonna is so successful and she brings something different to the table every time. It's cool to be different.
Q: What do you listen to?
A: I love rock. I really do. I love the grunge era. I love Elvis, the Beatles, the Who, the Stones, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. Journey, Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams.
Q: Former New Kid on the Block Joey McIntyre said that 'Nick [Carter] is doing rock, but it's pop no matter what way you slice it. He'll always be a pop act.'
A: I'm played on Top 40 radio. That's what we're aiming for still. It's pop, Nelly is pop. Justin [Timberlake] is pop. I'm not trying to disconnect myself from pop.
Q: What's up with the Backstreet Boys?
A: We'll start recording in March or April. I'll definitely have time for a tour [in February]. Nobody knows what our next album is going to sound like, but it's going to be hot.
Q: What's something that your fans probably don't know about you?
A: When I wasn't on tour I've played [drums] in bar bands.
Q: What would you like for Christmas?
A: I'm not a materialistic person. I just wish the whole world could chill for one day.

BRAVO (Germany) interview (12/05/02)
Before Nick started his solo-caree r, he went through hard times of his life! In this interview he speaks about depressions, drugs and to much alcohol.
B.: Nick, when have you thought the first time to make an own Album?
Nick: For a long time I always wanted to make an own Rockalbum. I grew up with rock. My parents always listened to Bon Jovi, Tom Petty and Bryan Adams. And when I came home I’ve always sang rock songs.
B.: When did your solo plans get concrete?
Nick: After the last BSB- WorldTour the band had decided to make a break. During this time it was boring for me and so I began to write songs. Suddenly I had 35 Songs witch my label and I liked.
B.: In an interview you’ve told the album has helped you in bad times....
Nick: Yeah, I was 12 when I started by the Backstreet Boys, now I’m 22. I’ve had a good time until the last 2 years - the pressure was to big. I became depressions and had the feeling that I don’t really like all this any longer – to be a Star and to go on this long tournees. I was totally burned out and didn’t know who I am. I’ve permanent changed my look and gain weight. I was really ready to go wrong.
B.: In what way?
Nick: I was together with the wrong people. I have let me go. I’ve tried drugs too, on the last tour when I get doubts about me. But only one time. And the police caught me when I was drunken driving a car.
B.: And you took of your pants in a disco in Florida and showed some girls your “little” Nick?!
Nick (laughing): Hey, who has told you that he’s little?! But in serious I’ve done things I had better not done. Sometimes I was in fright that I descend steeply as AJ.
B.: AJ helped a therapy!
Nick: The work on my new album has helped me.
B.: Some people say that you’ll get out of the Backstreet Boys if Now Or Never is a succeed!
Nick: I want to develop me more and to be a artist like Prince or Dawid Bowie. I want to play other instruments than guitar and drums. But I’m a Backstreet Boy too and I’m very proud of it.
B.: What would you do when the other Backstreet Boys say you have to elect if you want to sing with the group or alone?
Nick: Mhmmm - I wouldn’t like to elect. They wouldn’t say to me that I have to elect between them and my solo- career.
B.: Sometimes it says that the BSB are planning a new album and then it says you are only having time- out or it says BSB haven’t split yet. What’s going on with the Backstreet Boys?
Nick: We’re planning a new album. [here I’ve to remark something: The Backstreet Boys have already produced songs for the new album but they are in a quarrel with their label. They want 20 Mio. dollar from the label because the label used the name Backstreet Boys for advertising (5 Mio. for this) and because the label has delay the new album (15 Mio.).] But at the moment everyone of us is making his own things: Howie is in the studio, Kevin and Brian are both married. Brian got his baby and AJ wants to marry in the next time.
B.: It sounds like you don’t know what happens in the next time?
Nick: Yes, perhaps. But do you think that Brian, the new father, wants to go on long tours? I don’t think so. I’m young and crazy. I want to be wild, go out and rock. I don’t want to have children now and I don’t want to marry now.
B.: And what’s with Britney Spears?
Nick.: That’s a rumour! We aren’t together and we aren’t planning a duet. We don’t know each other.
B.: You’ve got no girlfriend at the moment?
Nick : I want to have one! No, I’m single since 1,5 years.
B.: Since your split with Willa Ford?
Nick: Yes! I’ve some disappointments behind me. And since this time it’s not easy for me to trust other people. When a girl is interested in me I never know if she likes me as a normal person (not the star) or if she wants to exploit me. But I’m sure that somewhere outside is my dreamgirl and I’ll find her.
****************************************************************************
You knew Nick Carter as a Backstreet Boy, but did you really know him?
HO: Was there any significance to the name of the album Now or Never?
NC: Yes. I felt like this was the time to do it or that I would never get another chance to do it. This is the time that I needed to start the chapter of what I want to do for the future. I have to learn a lot of stuff and a lot to grow into in music. It’s kind of like college in a way.
HO: When you were approaching the album was it weird to have so much freedom?
NC: It was weird to a point, but it was so much fun because I could say what I felt like I had to say and get everything out. I got a chance to create. I had a lot of stuff in my mind that I wanted to do and it finally had a chance to come out.
HO: I’m curious about the track “I Just Wanna Take You Home”. It sounds like two things might be going on there. First that you can say something here that maybe you couldn’t say as a Backstreet Boy and second that you were telling parents that this isn’t the same Nick Carter you used to know.
NC: You might be on to something there. (Laughs) I feel like what I’m doing now is what is in my heart and what I really want to do. I’m not trying to fake or join anything, or follow the times. I’ve always loved rock music and rocking on stage. Ask anyone, I used to play in rock bands, produce rock bands and write rock songs.
HO: And speaking of rock, there are some guitars on the track, but not much, were you worried that if you over did it that you’d alienate some fans?
NC: Yeah, I was definitely challenged with the situation. I had to come up with the right solution. Everyone knows me from what I came from and what I’ve done. It would have been a little shocking if I had gone the way I really wanted to. So I slowly got into it. The cool thing about it is that I want to shock people. I like to be unpredictable. I don’t want people to see what I do next, like Madonna.
HO: When “Help Me” was coming out were you worried that some fans might not accept you as a solo artist?
NC: There is still that possibility. Really, I like that. I like a challenge. I’ve always been the type of person who has had to win people over from friends to girlfriends or anything I’ve decided to do. I just had to work really hard at it. In the end it is much better because people respect you. They truly have respect for you not because of all that other stuff, maybe because of the trends. I like to be an underdog.
HO: The fact remains that you and the other guys in Backstreet did bust your ass for years before anyone even knew you existed.
NC: Yeah. That is why I’m accustomed to working hard. I do know what it is like to start off with nothing and then having a lot in the end. I like to start from scratch and build up. I want to start low and get back with the fans; I want to get more in touch with the fans. I want to entertain and show them love. That is what its all about.
HO: Did you write the songs specifically for this album or were some around that you thought you might be able to use with the Backstreet Boys?
NC: There were some songs that could have gone with the Backstreet Boys. I wrote about thirty-eight songs for this album. The songs that I wrote seemed to come right out of me. My name is on the album for the songs that I wrote and there are songs on there that I didn’t write. Maybe because I’m not fully prepared to write an entirely myself, I’m not afraid to admit that. I have a lot to learn. I’m like a big sponge. I absorb everything from everyone I work from writers to producers. I feel like I’ve just hit the tip of the iceburg right now. I’ve been playing guitar now for about a year and I’ve really been hitting it heavy. I’ve played drums since I was twelve. I want to learn more instruments as well.
HO: Did you feel pressure to try and get every song on the record that you wrote instead of bringing in writers? What I’m getting at is that a lot of people say ‘they aren’t real musicians’, but in the same sense no one ever said that about Sinatra.
NC: No, I don’t really feel like I have to write each song. If I feel a song I’ll do it. If the song doesn’t connect with me then I can’t do it. I’m an emotional singer and I sing with my soul, so I have to be able to put that into it. If I don’t feel it I can’t sing it.
HO: Some artists…
NC: …Do it for the hell of it.
HO: Right and feel pressure to answer to the critics.
NC: Look at Elvis. There was a lot of people who didn’t sing their own songs.
HO: So is that unfair to expect in this day and time?
NC: I guess its like this, if you can’t write then don’t.
HO: I heard you were on the tv show American Dreams.
NC: Yep, it was a lot of fun.
HO: I know you are playing the front man of Jay and the Americans, what tracks did you do?
NC: We did “Come A Little Bit Closer” and “She Cried”.
HO: What are the best and worst things about fame?
NC: The worst thing about being famous is not being able to trust people. The best thing about being famous is being able to touch people with the one thing we call music.

Nick did an interview with DJ Schooly in the UK sometime in October, and here's the transcript:Nick Carter Goes It Alone!
Nick Carter, the youngest member of one of the most successful boy bands on the planet - the Backstreet Boys – is trying his hand at going it alone. We find out all the latest here…
Before we talk about your new single and album, can I just you what's happening with the Backstreet Boys?
We're not breaking up! I've been dying to do some type of rock music since I was a little kid. I grew up in the group, and even though I love what I do with them, I just wanted to try something different. That's all I'm doing right now. If it does big and good, that's cool.
Is rock your thing then?
Yeah. If you listen to the album you can definitely tell that it still has pop influences though. To the melodies and to the words and stuff like that.
How would you describe it then?
I used to be a big Bryan Adams fan and Bruce Springsteen and stuff like that because my parents used to listen to that stuff a lot. I really wanted to have that in the music. I wanted to bring back that old, feel good feeling of those times, but also re-invent it with hipper beats. And that's what I think I've done. It's not hard rock, it's pop rock. But it has edge.
What's the new single, 'Help Me' all about?
I didn't write the song, but even though I didn't write it, I did have a large influence on the whole album. When I first listened to the song I was like 'This is hitting off where I am at and the kind of person that I am and what I'm asking for right now.' I was looking for some help! I thought it was a really good first song to come out with and break me open as a solo artist. I'm really proud of the song - I like it and I enjoy it and I think it's a hot song. It definitely connects with me, and that's the only reason why I did it in the first place
Let's talk about the album...
The album's called 'Now Or Never', and I had control over the whole of it. That was what was so cool about the whole process. When you're in a group you don't have control of the whole album, you have four other people's opinions. I loved it, it was so cool.
How different was it working on this album to working with the boys?
It was all me singing, taking care of the backgrounds, taking care of the lead vocals, writing the songs, putting the music influences in there, everything.
How do the others feel about your solo project?
They're just letting me do my thing. That's what it's all about and they realise that. They're supportive in what I'm doing and some of them really enjoy it too. They see what it's doing for me as an individual.
What are the rest of them up to now?
Some of the guys are getting married - AJ's getting married, Brian's having a baby, Kevin's married and Howie's doing a lot of individual stuff.
Do you think your solo project is a bit of a surprise to your fans?
Yeah, and in the beginning I think it was kind of a surprise to the guys too. It's been the same thing for ten years, and me being the youngest meant that going off and trying something new was a weird thing. But they got used to it. I think it's going to attract different fans, but as long as they see that I'm happy and they see that it's helping me, the fans will support me.

Beccy

The boys in the bands, Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter, BBMak, O-Town, Dream Street (11/25)
Shock: Are the Backstreet Boys separating?
Nick: No, we have not separated, we just wanted to give each other some time to be able to work on individual projects. This solo album is something I wanted to do a long time ago and I’m very excited with the results.
Shock: What does Now or Never mean to you?
Nick: I felt this was the right time to put this project out as a solo artist and to stop and think what it is that I really wanted to do with my future. I needed to learn how to be an individual and do things for my self. Since I was 12 I’ve been in the group and I need to be by myself. I learned to play the guitar and I want to learn to play other instruments. I know right now I’m not considered a respected musician but I want to become one some day.
Shock: After sharing the stage with 4 guys, how do you feel now when you’re on stage alone?
Nick: I don’t dance anymore. I play the guitar.
Shock: If you could have on BSB working with you on your solo project, whom would you choose?
Nick: AJ without a doubt. He knows a lot about music and like myself he has an open mind to new sounds and rhythms.
Shock: What do you think about the fact that Justin’s and your album came out about the same time?
Nick: I don’t really have a conflict/problem with that. We have two different styles of music. His style is more R&B and hip-hop and mine is more pop-rock. I support him in what he does and I don’t worry about it because I don’t think of him as my rival.
Shock: How is your relationship with Aaron going?
Nick: It’s incredible. We always have fun together. Unfortunately I don’t have enough time to be with, as much as I’d like to. Especially now, since I’m promoting Now or Never.
Shock: How do you see his career in the future?
Nick: He’s very good on stage, but he is still young. He has a lot to learn, but he will definitely will be a great artist in the future.
Shock: Have you thought about doing a duet with him?
Nick: Of course I have, we’ve talked about it, but it’ll have to be in the future.
Shock: Is is true you’ve received acting propositions?
Nick: Yeah is true and I’ve been writing some scripts also, but I’m not planning on doing any acting at the moment. My priority is to make the cd a success.
Shock: Tell us about the time they arrested you when you were leaving a club?
Nick: I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. When I was leaving the club, some people were fighting and I ended up in the middle of it. I talked back to a police officer and he arrested me. I didn’t do anything wrong.
Shock: The Backstreet Boys left thousands of fans waiting for them in Colombia. As a solo artist are you planning on going over to tour South America?
Nick: I would love to visit Colombia. The women are divine down there (meaning south of the border)… like Shakira and now that I’ve seen Ana Sofia, I definitely have to go to Colombia.

He wears briefs, is afraid of Gremlins and… has never been in love!!
Imagine: you’re as popular as Nick Carter. It’s a dead giveaway there are many rumors circulating about you. We asked him about some of them…
Nick always wears briefs instead of boxers
That’s not true. I wear whatever I find in my closet. I don’t care what’s on my butt as long as it fits and is clean.
Nick collects beanie babies
That WAS true, but I quit a while ago. There are certain hobbies that you can’t maintain after a certain age. I’m not collecting anything now, except maybe for CDs and clothes.
Nick is afraid of the dark
Uhm…a little. I would lie if I said it isn’t true. But I hate the night. Other people may get romantic ideas about the nighttime, but I don’t. I used to check under my bed at least 3 times a night because I was scared Gremlins would attack me at night. That’s another thing I’ve grown too old for haha.
No matter how scared he is of aliens… Nick would love to have a part in a science fiction movie
Yes, that’s true. In fact, I would WANT to play an alien. I love science fiction en action movies. So if I’d ever get the chance to play in one I would say yes immediately. If I can act? Sure, why not?
Nick is crazy about Nintendo games
Yep! Always has been, always will be. I swear, Nintendo is the best! The new FIFA game is awesome. Wow, it rocks. Unfortunately I don’t have enough time to play Nintendo.
Nick has never really been in love
That’s true as well. No, never. Is that so hard to believe? I don’t think so myself. I just never really let myself go, that’s my explanation. I’m only 22 so lots could happen still.
Nick got his first kiss at age 7
I can’t remember hahah. But yeah that could be true. I think I must have been about 7 or 8, yeah. It probably wasn’t like a deep kiss, just a little kiss.
Nick is a shy guy when talking to a girl he likes
Yes. I’m not one of those slick womanisers that always know how to start a conversation. I always feel uncomfortable and think the girl has all kinds of prejudices against me and it makes me nervous so I let her do the talking. I prefer it when girls come up to me and say hi or whatever.
Nick once dated 2 girls at the same time
No, that’s not true. Not guilty your honour!
In Junior High, Nick got picked on for looking like a girl
Yeah, that’s true. Yet another fact. Although I didn’t look like a girl, but my hair was longer than that of the other boys and I was blonde. I guess they didn’t think that was cool.
Nick is a great cartoonist
That’s true as well. I’m not THAT good. I need to take my time, but if I do, I can draw really well.
Nick has been playing the drums since he was 14-years-old
Yep! Although I’ll always be a better singer than a drummer.
Nick doesn’t smoke
True again. I tried it before, but I don’t like it much.
Nick thinks beer is disgusting
Uhhmmm…………yes!
Nick considers himself to be role model for others
No, definitely not. I couldn’t say that about myself. I’m just a normal guy that tries to be real and natural. And I make just as many mistakes as the next guy, so not much of a rolemodel huh?
Nick doesn’t like it when people tell him he looks like Leonardo DiCaprio
No, that’s not true. I honestly don’t care what people say as long as they don’t tell me I still look like a girl!
In clubs and on stage it’s clear… Nick is a horrible dancer
I won’t pretend to be a great dancer, but I CAN dance. I don’t hate it. I need to dance on stage, but it’s just entertainment.
Nick once stole a bible from a hotel
Yeah, that’s true… well, I didn’t exactly steal it… I just borrowed it and forgot to took it back.
Nick gets mad when things don’t work out the way he planned
I’m a perfectionist, but if something goes wrong I get over it. I never get like MAD-mad about it.

*Performed 'Help Me'*
Jay: Yeah. That was good.
Nick: Thank you.
Jay: Good job, man. Nice work.
[ Cheers and applause ]
[ Applause ] They're backing out tomorrow. They're backing out
tomorrow.
Dennis: He kicked the mike over, he got a bigger applause than I've
gotten in my [ Bleep ] Career.
[ Laughter ]
[ Applause ]
Jay: Let me ask you something. You're one of five, right? Was your
house like that when you were a kid?
Nick: Oh, yeah. I don't know how you can handle them kids. I'm just
like -- I'm the oldest in my family. I've got a little brother. His
name's aaron.
[ Audience oohs ]
Jay: They're twins in your family, right?
Nick: He's -- god, I'm out of breath. Sorry. But he's -- you know,
he's got a twin sister, actually.
Jay: Right. Okay, okay.
Dennis: Is your father jimmy?
[ Laughter and applause ]
Jay: Dennis is really not up on the music scene. I have to apologize.
[ Laughter ] Sorry. So you're like a big powerboat guy.
Nick: Yeah, yeah.
Jay: We have an interest in common. Okay, what kind of powerboats
have you got?
Nick: Actually, I'm an owner. I started teteam earlier this year. And
I have a 42-foot skater, which is actually a fountain. A fountain,
but it's a skater design, and it runs 2 800 horsepower engines.
Jay: Wow, now we're talking. Yeah. Screw this music, let's talk
engines.
Nick: That's what I'm saying.
Jay: Yeah, yeah. Cool.
Nick: No, I came from, you know, a family that liked motors and
powerboats and stuff like that. And the end this year, we'll
actually -- oh, god, I'm out of breath. Sorry.
Jay: What's the fastest you've ever gone on the powerboat?
Nick: I've actually driven my boat. Mine goes to 120 on the water.
Jay: Cool.
Nick: Which is extremely fast. And you know, at the end of this year,
we have the biggest race of this year, which is the world
championship, and it's the 22nd, you know, through the 24th of this
month, november.
Jay: Cool.
Jay, I've just got to --
[ Laughter ]
Jay: I want to thank my guest. Nick, good job, man. Man, take a
break.
[ Cheers and applause ] "Now or never's" the cd.

Tough guys don't cry, they meditate. At least that's what Nick Carter has started. TOPP met a deeper but hyped Backstreet Boy in Stockholm, who is finally ready with his solo album.
"I feel free" says Nick Carter (22). TOPP meets the ball of energy of a popstar at the Sheraton Hotel in Stockholm. Wearing baggy jeans, a hooded sweater and a hat, Nick Carter welcomes us to his suite on the 6th floor.
"Hey, nice to meet you. What do you want me to do?" he asks before he jumps up on the couch and goes crazy. "I'm a hip hop'er, yes I'm.." he sings....
It's not every day you meet a star that acts as free as this. There's no doubt that Nick knows it's important to get along with the press -- it's now or never for the blonde hottie. He's the first of the five Backstreet Boys who releases a solo album, and it's important not to fail completely.
"I'm feeling really great right now. I feel I've let out a lot of energy that I've kept inside for such a long time, and finally I have the freedom to do what I want," he says.
Despite successful years with the Backstreet Boys, it has not just been easy for Nick. He takes it very seriously when TOPP asks him to draw his life-curve for the readers, and that curve reveals that he's had two major down periods in the latest years.
What happened when you were 17?
- Oh My God! I was far down. Everything was going really bad. Relationships, everything. But then I got passed that, and had a great time, until last year. Then I was just sick and tired.
The End of the Backstreet Boys?
If Nick's solo album marks the end of the Backstreet Boys, he won't tell us. According to the record company, there's a new Backstreet album due out next year, something that doesn't seem very likely if you consider the fact that Nick hasn't been hanging with the guys for months.
"Well, Kevin is married, Brian's gonna be a dad, and AJ s getting married. But, Howie is single, so I'm hanging out with him sometimes," he tells us.
Are you single too?
- Yes, at this time I am single.
The blonde hottie has been charming the girls ever since he was an unknown kid, so it's not very surprising that we find tracks like Girls in the USA and I Just Wanna Take You Home on his album Now or Never.
There's a lot of songs about girls on your album?
- They are not all about girls, but some of them are. I love the ladies, I really love them. It's interesting how girls can awake feelings in you that makes your emotions go up and down like on the Richter's Scale.
Have you ever been really disappointed?
- Yes, many times. Both by previous girlfriends and by friends. More now than before I try to stay away from negative people, and rather hang with people with a lot of positive energy.
What kind of girls do you fall for?
- I don't just fall for one kind of girl. The most important thing is that she is open and funny. I like girls who have the guts to come over to you and tell you that they like you. I hate going over and start talking to a girl.
Meditation
One of your songs is called Do I Have To Cry For You. Do you ever cry?
- No, never! I don't know why, but I think I just keep it inside. I have problems showing emotions. There's a lot of times I should have cried, but I've found other ways to handle my sorrows. I meditate.
You meditate?
- Yeah. My meditation is music. I meditate to relax and to focus. I often put on nature CD's, that works really well.
Just the way Nick talks tells us that he's matured a lot since the last time we met him. If it's not a part of his new I'm-going-solo image that is.
"I'm getting older, and maybe a little wiser when it comes to life," he says, describing himself as a thinker. "I'm a deep person, one who thinks a lot. I think I'm very weird and deep," he says. It used to be pizza and cola which was his favourites, now it's water and 'green-food'. "I love asparagus. It's actually my fave food at the moment. Don't you agree?" he asks, looking at us.
Do you still party a lot?
- There are some parties, but not as much as before. I used to be a rebel.
Was too much drugs and alcohol?
- Yeah, way too much! But I've calmed down now. I'm trying to clear my head, clear my thoughts.

Nick Carter Talks With Z100 (11/06/02)
"Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter recently did an interview for New York radio station Z100, where he promoted his new album 'Now or Never'. Read on for a transcript.
DJ: And in the studio right now, let's give it up for Nick Carter! Thank you so much for coming in tonight, man.
Nick: Hey, thanks for having me.
DJ: Really appreciate it. The album in stores right now, Now Or Never, what's your favorite track on the album?
Nick: I love I Got You, I love Do I Have To Cry For You, I like My Confession..
DJ: Is it tough to keep in contact with everyone back home?
Nick: It is sometimes.. I mean, I was just hanging out with my brother the other day, he came up and we did Sesame Street together. A lot of times we seem to meet up when we're only working or doing things like that. But I'm gonna have some time off like at the end of the year, like late December..
DJ: With the Backstreet Boys.. Brian recently said that you all really don't hang out much unless you're working.
Nick: Brian is trying to spend some time with his family life and really start that up, so that's probably just the way it is at the moment, but when we get back into the studio and we get recording and stuff in the future, which I like to do after I get a couple of singles out.
DJ: Can you describe like how much pressure that is? You know, all the girls, and all the fans, is this the end of the BSB, you know? It's gotta be a lot of pressure.
Nick: Everybody asks me that question. I can tell you, straight up, the facts are I'm not leaving the group. It's not like I was leaving the group.. It's just that I'm doing something right now that I've been dying to do for a long time.
DJ: You were hanging out with Prince William?
Nick: Yeah, I ran into him. We were in a club.
DJ: Was that just coincidence?
Nick: Yeah, I was in London doing some press and he kinda like ran into me, we were chillin', and he came up, I introduced myself, we had a couple' a drinks and that was about it.
DJ: (something about the ladies)
Nick: Let's just say he had guys with him..
DJ: He had all his boys with him?
Nick: Yeah
DJ: Wow. So, are you over the fact that, being in this bussines for ten years now and having the girls swoon (?) over you?
Nick: I can never get over that. Don't get me wrong, I love attention. I dunno, I got a girlfriend right now, so if someone hugs me or kisses me.. I'm straight.
DJ: Right on. Well you spent a hell of a lot of time in New York city and coming up tomorrow, the Toys R Us in Time Square from 3:00 to 6:00. Nick Carter gonna be doing some karaoke!
Nick: +laughs+ Oh yeah
DJ: This is really cool, the singing stars karaoke machine, this is a new thing, actually I got one right here. You guys are all invited to come down, meet Nick Carter, get his autograph, get pictures with him, watch Nick doing the karaoke and of course YOU can do the karaoke too. Snap it into action.. I'm sure they all want to sing your songs.
Nick: +laughs+
DJ: How do you like that, when people are all singing your songs, what does that feel like?
Nick: I feel like.. that's an amazing feeling. Just because they wanna hear it, they wanna listen to it.. Sometimes it's an amazing feeling because it's overwhelming but at the same time it's still shocking to the point where you go "Whoa"..
DJ: Well this is all happening tomorrow, 3:00 til 6:00, Toys R Us in Timesquare, Nick Carter will be there...
Nick: Come on down!
DJ: ...doing the karaoke from singing stars. Thank you so much for coming in, I've got one more bonus question for you, you know, typical stranded on an island questions.
Nick: Uh oh..
DJ: The three ideal women you would want on a stranded island.
Nick: I'll take Winona Ryder. I think she's hot. Then let's see.. Kristen Dunst, I think she's hot. God, another girl who I think is hot.. I think Kristen is really hot, she's off the chain.
DJ: Have you ever met her?
Nick: No, but I want to +laughs+ So, this is Nick Carter, if you're listening girl, I know you hear me
DJ: You don't have to give your number out on the air
Nick: You'll hear like +makes noises+ (then I guess he mentions his mom)
DJ: You're mom's gonna be the last one?
Nick: Yes
DJ: The album Now Or Never, in stores right now, don't forget tomorrow, 3:00 til 6:00, enjoy Nick Carter, Toys R Us, Timesquare for the singing stars video karaoke challenge. Nick thank you so much for coming out tonight.
Nick: Thank you so much for having me"

Nick Carter’s Capital Takeover (11/05/02)
Nick Carter talks about his solo career and life as one of the Backstreet Boys. Plus plays out his favourite tunes and answers your most intimate email questions! Find out more here…
Hey, this is Nick Carter, and this is my Takeover. Right now we're going to start off with one of my favourite songs - this is from my group the Backstreet Boys, it's 'Quit Playing Games With My Heart'.
Right now we're going to play one of my favourite songs. This is 'In The End' by Linkin Park. The reason I picked this song is because I love rock music and I really like this group. I was jamming this group out in America when they first came out. Nobody was listening to the CD and I loved it. You should check this song out.
Clare asks: Why did you decide to go solo and does it mean the end of the Backstreet Boys?
Sorry Clare, I'm not quitting the group! I grew up with those guys since I was twelve years old and I love them, they're like my brothers. I'm not quitting, I'm just doing something that I've really been wanting to do since I was really, really little. I've always loved rock music, and now I'm getting a chance to actually do it! I couldn't necessarily do it with the Backstreet Boys, even though we've done what we've done for so long.
Heather says: What's been the highest point of your career so far and have there been any really low points?
I've had some extremely high points in my career with the Backstreet Boys in particular. I've had some really cool things happen - I've been able to travel all around the world. There was one point where we were able to get on a plane and hop around to every single country in different continents in 100-hour period! The crazy thing was that we were able to hit all those different countries - we went to Japan, Africa, South America, Europe, then back to America, oh, and also Australia! . That was a very high point. We've had some low points where we've had to cancel tours because of problems in the group, but we've been able to make it through all those things. I love what I've done in my career with the Backstreet Boys, and hopefully I'll have some high points in mine too.
Right not it's time to play another one of my favourite songs. This actually is a new song that's out that I really, really love. The girl is hot as hell! Her name is Christina Aguilera and this is a song called 'Dirrty'.
I love Red Man, he's in that song too. I love rap too. I love all sorts of music.
This is another of my favourite songs. I picked this because when I was over here recording recently with Guy Chambers and Steve Mac I heard about this group. I liked the group and I loved their new song ten times better than their older stuff. This is Sugababes with 'Round Round'. I saw this video and it's hot, and these girls are hot, and this song is hot, so check it out!
Kelly says: If you were ever on a show like 'Big Brother' or 'Survivor', which stars would you most likely be stuck in a house or on the island with?
Britney? No, I'm just joking! Holly Valance - I'd be stuck with her, I'd love to be stuck in a room with her. I don't know if she'd be able to deal with me though!
Natasha says: I have listened to your new album, it's very rocky! Are you giving up on pop?
When I went into the studio and I started creating music, I wanted to create something new and fresh and different. I didn't want people to have expectations of me. I wanted to surprise people a lot. I went in and I did a little bit of a rock feel to my album. It's old rock mixed with new rock and pop. It's not too far off - it's still got the melodies and the pop hooks, but it does have rock guitars to it. I love listening to rock and I wanted to put it in there. I'm not giving up on pop because I can go back to the Backstreet Boys and always to pop music of some sort with them. It's about evolution, and that's what I like about this.
Right now I'm going to play a song from my 'Now And Never' CD coming out on October 28th. This song is a ballad, it's one of my favourite ones that I wrote for the album. It's called 'Do I Have To Cry For You'. It's kind of a sad song.
Now the next song I'm going to play is by a girl I was just talking about. This is Holly Valance with 'Kiss Kiss'. I really like this one.
I'm playing a rock song and you're not going to be able to stop me! This is System Overdown 'Chop Sui'.
Louise asks: How much rivalry is there between the Backstreet Boys and NSync?
There's not! That rivalry was created by the press and all those people in the media. We've known each other since we were young guys. Even now when I'm doing a solo thing and Justin's doing a solo thing we talk with each other. Now we're both getting to do one of our dreams at the same time. There is no rivalry and I'm glad that the two groups are in the music business because we both get a chance to show two different sides to music and hopefully do a good job at it too.
Christina says: What do you think of TV shows like 'American Idol', 'Pop Stars' and 'Pop Idol'?
Those are cool shows, they're very entertaining, and it's cool because you get a chance to try to find new talent out there. Those people get the opportunity of a lifetime and there's a lot of people out there who don't get chances like this. They should never take those things for granted and they should always respect it.
I'm going to play this next song because I like the guy, Justin's a cool cat, this is 'Like I Love You' by Justin Timberlake.
I had a great time doing the show, thank you for all your emails. I loved all the songs I played and I hope you loved them too. Coming up is my song 'Help Me', the first song that kicked off everything. I hope you enjoy it. I had a blast and I'll see you later!

Carter Makes A Move 11-03-02
TeenMusic.com
As the Backstreet Boys take an extended break after the Black & Blue tour, the boyband's youngest member has decided that it’s ‘now or never’ to strike out on his own.
Nick Carter has fared well away from The Backstreet Boys. This past year has seen Carter grace the pages of your favorite news source more times than even Nick would care to remember. There was the nightclub arrest (Nick has been cleared of charges), there was his boat-racing success (Nick won big in Florida where he participated in speedboat racing this summer), and there was the rumor that he’s dating Britney Spears (we’ll get to that later, read the interview below.) So the fact that Nick released his first solo album Now Or Never on October 29th isn't surprising, this guy is on a roll.
Even his album release has a unique spirit. It’s pitted directly against rival pop-star Justin Timberlake’s release Justified (November 5th), creating ample content for music journalists everywhere to comment on the pop culture revelations taking place as these two boyband icons break-out on their own.
In an interview that took place one day before he performed on MTV’s TRL, Nick was sincere, polite, and ready for every question we had to ask him. Read below for TeenMusic.com’s interview with Nick Carter:
TeenMusic.com: How much thought did you put into whether you wanted to do a solo album or not?
Nick: It started when I was about to turn 18. My record company gave me a call saying they were going to have to renew my contract, because when you turn 18 your [existing] contract is void. So I said, "Ok, I’ll re-sign," and then they said they also wanted to talk about a solo contract. So I did that but I said, "Right now I’m really dedicated to The Backstreet Boys," and time went on and we didn’t do anything about the contract.
When I got off the Black & Blue tour a lot of time had gone by and I didn’t know what was what, whether not I could do it anymore or what. So I went into the studio and started writing and recording just for the heck of it, and the record company got a hold of some of the songs I was writing and saw how productive I was being, and they said, "Do you want to do it," and I said, "sure." So I started going all around the world and writing with different producers. 38 songs and six months later we had a slammin’ album.
TeenMusic.com: Where did you travel to record this?
Nick: I went to Sweden and to London. It was just really cool. It was a great experience.
TeenMusic.com: Were you happy with how the album turned out?
Nick: It’s different. It’s going to be good in the end because I’m not trying to be what everybody expects. At the beginning it might seem a little weird to people but it’s what I want to do. I think as long as I stay true to myself that’s what people are going to see.
TeenMusic.com: Is there a phrase that can describe the difference between this music and The Backstreet Boys music?
Nick: It’s a young and fun album.
TeenMusic.com: You emphasize playing real instruments in the Help Me music video. Why?
Nick: Well I’m studying how to play the guitar right now. I’ve always played drums and that’s one of my favorite things, but now I’ve started to get into guitar playing. I’m going to rehearse with my band tonight.
I’m not necessarily the best at it and I’m not proclaiming to be the best, but I want to work to get there someday. I feel that it’s never too late to work hard at something if you really like it.
TeenMusic.com: Is this the band that you’re touring with?
Nick: Yeah, they’re going on tour. They decided to join up with me. Actually it’s funny because the bass player is a female named Alicia and I used to play in a garage band with her. I used to play drums and she played bass, I play for about 2 ½ or three years with her.
TeenMusic.com: Why did you release Help Me as the album’s first single?
Nick: I felt it was a good bridge from The Backstreet Boys to what I’m doing now. I didn’t want to come off too crazy because people would be like, "Whoaa, what’s going on," you know what I’m saying? It’s just the way people are, they don’t want to see anything fake or contrived so I wanted to come out with something that was close to what I wanted to do and close to what I’ve done before.
TeenMusic.com: Have you recorded any songs that are really out there? Stuff people didn’t think Nick Carter would be doing?
Nick: Yeah, there’s a lot more songs. Let’s put it this way, some of the other songs I wrote were really rock, but we had to mix it up on this album. So you might see me do something different next time around. You never know.
TeenMusic.com: Nick, what have you been doing outside of music this year?
Nick: My whole life has been music. I’ve been recording the whole year. I’ve worked really hard on the album and tried to make the best one that I could because it’s definitely going to be a critical album. But at the same time I just want to be proud of what I have and what I’ve done. So that’s what I did all year, dedicated my life to this album. Hopefully people will enjoy it.
TeenMusic.com: How do you prepare for the criticism you may have as a boyband member releasing his first solo album?
Nick: It doesn’t bother me at all. People are going to say what they want to say and they have the right to. I’ll be straight, I like doing music, I’m an entertainer, and as long as I’m making somebody out there happy, that’s all that matters.
TeenMusic.com: Do you have a tour coming up?
Nick: I’m going to talk to my booking agent after these interviews about doing a tour.
TeenMusic.com: Tomorrow you’re on TRL. Are you looking forward to that?
Nick: That’s going to be a performance. A lot of people looking at me going, "Uh-oh, what’s he doing?"
TeenMusic.com: How’s the transition as a solo artist with the media? You can’t rely on the four other guys to answer questions anymore.
Nick: It can be a little difficult sometimes but I’m so happy doing it that it becomes obsolete, all those bad things to think about.
TeenMusic.com: Is it out of line to ask if you’re dating Britney Spears right now?
Nick: No it’s not out of line, I’m not.
TeenMusic.com: If this album fairs well, will there be another solo album?
Nick: I believe so. This is just the beginning. I’m learning so much and have so much new stuff that I’ll probably start recording my next album like…now. As long as all this makes me happy I’ll stick with it.

Nick of Time (Big Hit, Australia)
Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter is finally going it alone with the release of his debut solo single "Help Me" and album "Now Or Never." We caught up with him and talked growing up, being single and the tension in the BSB camp...
How does it feel to have your first solo album?
God, I'm excited. Like, words can't explain how excited I am. It's amazing. I'm just so happy to be able to finally let people know how I've been feeling for a long time through writing and everything.
What was the initial impulse that inspired yo to do the record?
It didn't start off from the beginning for me intentionally to do a solo album. It came from the Backstreet's "Black & Blue" world tour and I was in Japan and it was around Christmas time and everybody just had a little time off. I don't have a wife like the other guys, or stuff that they do, so I just called up my record company and I said, "Hey do you mind if I get in the studio and just start recording and writing some music?" and they were like, "Yeah, sure!" It was just kind of a sample thing to see if maybe I did have it in me. There were no dates set on it or anything and the music turned out really good and I was really surprised because I didn't even think I could write a song or even sing a whole song. Then, sure enough, we started getting a lot of really good tracks done. Then I was like, "Man, I want the world to hear this stuff, I really do." I"m very proud of it. Very excited.
How did the title "Now Or Never" come about?
I just kind of came up with it. It wasn't like - I felt like it was the time, it was now or never and if I wasn't going to do it then I would never do it.
Have you ever felt that the Backstreet Boys haven't given you the freedom to express yorself?
Well, in a group in general, you're one of five or however many people are in your group, and the object of the group is to do it as a group and not as one plus four, like a solo person stepping out. That's what the group has always been about. And in a scenario like that, you don't get to show your whole self, so of course I wouldn't get that chance and so now this is different - of course, it's all me.
You've done a lot of writing on the new album. How did you approach that?
My aim when it comes to songwriting - I'm not the kind of person who just writes a song for the hell of it. It has to mean something for me. It has to be personal, it has to be something that I've gone through, something that I'm going through at the moment which is a large part of the songs that I've written. They're songs that mean stuff that I went through at the moment that I wrote the songs and I think those are the kind of songs that are missing nowadays. People just write the songs for the heck of it and other artists just record somebody elses songs even if it doesn't mean anything to them. I think the main thing is, even with songs that I didn't even write, they had to mean something to me or I wouldn't have recorded then.
So if you've written about your own life, what are the issues you want your fans to know about you right now?
Well that's the thing that when they listen to the music, they'll be able to pick it up themselves and make their own judgement. I've gone through some tough times - I've gone throgh some things that I've held inside and haven't been so public abot and I think it's almost like the songs are like a diary to me. Instead of writing in a diary, I wrote the songs and put them to music and a lot of the songs are like that. It's so therapeutic for me.
There's been a lot written about how the other boys have reacted to your solo project. How are you all getting along?
There's rumours that are going on out there - there's a little bit of tension but really overall it's the way it's going to be right now. The thing is they know what I've been doing and they're cool with it and they know that I've been doing this and what I'm about to do and it doesn't trouble me too much. I'm doing my thing and they've concentrated on their personal lives a lot more - and even AJ is about to get married. I've been recording and stuff, but now we're going to get in the studio and I want to get back in with them now rather than later.
Are any of the others planning to go solo, too?
[shrugs his shoulders] No.
You don't know?
I don't know. I don't believe so.
Will you be going back into the studio with the Backstreet Boys?
Yes. I would love to get back in the studio and do that.
The tension isn't bad enough for you to split?
No.
Have the other BSB's called and wished you luck?
Yeah, they've done that.
Does it ever cause conflict that the other guys are married and focus on their personal lives and you're single?
It sometimes causes conflicts, yes. Some of the guys would rather me settle down or me be less... But I'm 22 and young and personally, I can't and I don't want to, I just want to be me. I want to be free and happy and I see no problem with being like that. I'm young and I don't need to settle down. That's the cool part.
Do you also feel that maybe it's an image that maybe you outgrew as a band?
I think some of the guys did. Me personally, if I have that image - I love attention and maybe I get some of that attention from the fans and performing in front of them and I can't get enough of the time of day to do it and some of the guys did outgrow it. Some of them didn't. It's just the way it happens I guess. When you get married and stuff, you fall in love with somebody, things change.
A lot of guys in groups are getting into acting and starting clothing labels. Is that something you'd like to pursue?
I can do it all. I'm very confident in myself and what I can do and I don't know if I'll ever do it necessarily but I know that I can. Right now I'm concentrating on one thing at a time and living day by day and if I start to worry about so many different things my mind can't control it and I get overwhelmed. I take it one day at a time. I could do it, yeah.
No plans to go to space?
No. I like my feet on the ground.
Are you getting mobbed more than you used to?
Well I haven't really been out there yet - I haven't done any tv shows or anything and this is so new to me. So I'm going to see what happens and hopefully - I like attention - I'm a crazy guy.

Gala Interview with Nick
GALA, October 24th 2002
He's still cute although he doesn't like to hear that for sure. Nick
Carter, 22, the "baby" of the Backstreet Boys is going his own way
now. At the age of 22 the singer wants to get away from the softy
image. Physically with tattoos and wild outfits, musically with an album
that sounds like something between Bruce Springsteen and Blink 182. His
album has the promising title "Now or Never" and is going to be
released on October 28th. At a photo shoot in Cologne, the heartthrob
spoke to us.
Gala: The Backstreet Boys Baby is going rock, did we always misjudge
you as a
crooner?
Nick: I always had a wild side in me but I couldn't let that out in the
group. You could almost say that I have a split personality. I'm a quiet
guy, but when I go on stage, I change. That was sometimes a problem with
the Backstreet Boys. The guys had to stop me on stage to get me under
control. But I don't like to be under control, I wanna be wild.
Gala: The new album shows your real personality then?
Nick: If it would've been my decision, the album would've been even
more rock. But since I come from a pop band, it didn't work. The change
would've been too drastic, people wouldn't have accepted that.
Gala: But still people are going to put you in the Boyband genre ...
Nick: I'm sure that's what's going to happen at the beginning, but
later on that'll change. Even Michael Jackson was the Jackson- Five-
Baby in the beginning and Robbie Williams an Ex- Take That member.
Gala: Is Robbie Williams something like a role model for you?
Nick: I respect him very much. He didn't chose the easiest way to reach
his goal. And yeah, I'm comparing myself to him. Honestly, it would've
been easier for me to record songs that sound like the Backstreet Boys
to be sure about the success. But that's something that I didn't want.
Me and Robbie do what we feel is right, no matter what other people
might be thinking. I think that this boldness is going to pay off.
Gala: Many Boygroup stars have drug problems, among them are Robbie
Willams and your bandmate AJ McLean. Why didn't it catch you?
Nick: That was the good thing to be the youngest, you could learn from
other's mistakes. I knew that I don't want to end like this. But I'm 22
and I still want to have fun, I want to be young and crazy. This is
going to be a hard test for me.
Gala: Can you tell us about your bad characteristics?
Nick; I like to pick around in my face. That is driving the Make Up
people crazy. I also like to pick on others. I can be a real pain in
the neck.
Gala: Doesn't sound too exciting. Other Rockstars would mention their
weakness for groupies and parties ...
Nick: I don't have time for girls. I like to party, though. I like to
go clubbing, especially when live bands are playing. Sometimes I'm
jumping on the stage and sing old Grunge songs, but also oldies like
Elvis, the Beatles or Elton John.
Gala: What would you sing to seduce a woman?
Nick: Probably a Frank Sinatra Song.
Gala: Good Choice. Are you a ladies' man?
Nick: Yeah, maybe. You'll have to decide for yourself (winks).
Gala: The glance is already perfect. Tell me about your tattoos, what do
they mean?
Nick: I have too many! On my legs, on my back, on my shoulder blades
... I have two black feet on my chest because I have blackfoot indian
blood in me. And the shark on my arm stands for danger and the ocean. I
love the danger, I surf, I scuba dive and I go fishing. I live on a
small island on the Florida Keys and I'm on the water a lot.
Gala: It's been quiet in Backstreet Land, do you still see the other
guys?
Nick: Sure, but we're more colleagues than friends. Some of the guys
have their own lives now. AJ is going to get married and Brian is about
to have a baby.
Gala: Are you ever going to record together again?
Nick: We thought about it. But I want to do my own thing first, it's just
begun. I want to go on tour in January, only small venues with 2000 or
3000 people. I want to start from the beginning and also build up a new
fan base without losing the old. And I want to be closer to the
audience, which sometimes was hard in the huge arenas the Backstreet
Boys were playing in.
Gala: If you think back to the time with the Backstreet Boys, is there
something that embarasses you today?
Nick: Oh yeah, whenever I look at pictures and see my old hair styles.
But I think everybody knows something like this. Look at old pictures
of Madonna. I'm sure she often thinks, "Oh my god, how could I?" now.

Inside the Mind of Nick Carter 10/19/02
He asks for help in his latest single, so we got him some – a top shrink to unravel the mind of Nick Carter!
Little did Nick Carter know what was in store when we sat him down on our psychologist’s couch and asked him a set of seemingly innocent questions. After much analysis, his answers revealed what’s really going on in his mind. Cunning, hey?
You’re stuck in a room with no windows or doors. Describe in three words how you feel.
Nick: Trapped, scared and nervous.
This answer tells us how Nick sees his future.
Nick is nervous about his future – the thought of his career going wrong really scares him. “Well, I guess with the solo stuff I’m really putting myself on the line,” he admits, “so yeah, I am a bit nervous.” Gosh, we’re good…
Describe your favourite animal in three words.
Nick: Is a shark an animal? (Duh! – Ed.) Well I’d say it’s sharp, graceful and dangerous.
This answer reveals how Nick sees himself!
Aha! Very showing. Everyone knows sharks glide effortlessly through life. They’re calm and collected, but can turn and attack at any time. In a similar fashion, but with less teeth, Nick sees himself as a loner, but thinks himself capable of sudden action when required. He also perceives himself to be sharp, graceful and to have a dangerous, wild side.
Describe your favourite colour in three wordds.
Nick: Green. It’s deep, big and soothing.
This answer tells us how others see Nick.
Nick’s friends and family see him as a deep-minded, strong and comfronting person – he’s the one they turn in times of trouble. It’s interesting that Nick chose green because it’s a soothing colour, and Nick does give off a laid-back vibe. Nick reckons he’s got a calming influence on people around him, and is proud of his spiritual side. Although he admits sometimes people think he’s “a bit crazy”.
Tell us what you can’t live without, and describe it in three words.
Nick: Music. I’d say it’s soothing, healing and therapeutic.
This answer reveals what Nick is looking for in his friends.
Nick is so cool and relaxed that he looks for the same qualities in his friends. He also needs mates who can listen to him when he has a problem. “I’ve realised there’s more to life than just partying,” he adds. What did we tell you?
You’re swimming naked in a lake – describe in three words how you feel.
Nick: Free! I definitely wouldn’t be embarrassed. I’d just feel open and relaxed.
This answer reveals Nick’s attitude to relationships.
What a good sign – Nick’s totally cool in relationships and he doesn’t get embarrassed about opening up. “I’m not looking for a girl,” laughs Nick. “Well I am looking,” he adds, “but I’m not ready for a big relationship. I’ve had experiences with relationships in the past that make it difficult for me to trust people.”
What one thing makes you happy?
Nick: The ocean. It’s always been a big part of my life, but it’s something a lot of people don’t understand. It can heal you and make you feel good if you’re stressed out. It’s very powerful but at the same time very calm. It has hidden depths, things people will never see.
This answer is the key to Nick’s real personality.
Like the ocean, Nick can seem calm and peaceful on the surface but he’s never more than a few moments away from blowing up into a storm. Nick grew up in Florida, near the ocean, and even how the sea reminds him of an innocent time, before the stresses of life as an international megastar took over. As for the hidden depths people will never see, the shy, private Nick would be talking about himself away from the spotlight.

Nick Carter Q&A (Herald Sun: Australia) 10-19-02
Nick Carter tells NEALA JOHNSON how it feels to be the first solo Backstreet Boy.
Are you happy with your first solo album, Now Or Never?
Yeah, I’m ecstatic about it.
Does it feel different to be talking about a project that’s come from you, and you alone?
Yeah, it’s different. I mean, it’s weird because I’ve got so much to say. It’s like, man, I didn’t realise I had so much I wanted to talk about.
Why was Help Me chosen as your first single?
First of all, I didn’t write the song. But the songs that I didn’t write on the album, I’d listen to ‘em before I’d record them, and if it didn’t, word-wise, have anything to do with what I’m trying to say, or what I’m going through in my life, I didn’t need to record it. So that song right here, it hit home with where I’m at right now. It talks about how I’m trying to find my way, and I’m soul-searching. You know, I’m 22 and I’ve gone through the business and there’s a lot of stuff in this business that can really mess with a young kid.
Do you look at what you’ve been through with the Backstreet Boys and wonder how you came out with your sanity intact?
Yep. Definitely. There’s a lot of situations that make me think, God, man, how did I even get there? But getting through those things and learning only makes people stronger, from what I’ve noticed (laughs). And thank God I’ve been blessed and I’ve been able to learn, and learn quickly, and not do ‘em again.
Have you written or co-written many songs on Now Or Never?
Most of the songs, I’ve co-written. But even though I co-wrote with people, a large portion is my ideas. Everything on the album, it’s very personal. It’s stuff that I either have gone through, or I really, really love, or would love to have. So whoever listens to the songs, they’re going to be able to tell what I’ve been going through for the past how long, because I’ve been able to use the writing as a therapy. Instead of writing in a diary, I wrote it on paper and recorded it.
Who did you write with?
I worked with Max Martin again. I did some stuff with Teddy Riley (Joe, Mary J. Blige), I did some stuff with Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams) and Steve Mac (Westlife) in England. But I’ve also worked with a lot of underdogs, people who are on the up, people who’ve really got a lot to say.
Are you nervous that Now Or Never is an open book, without four other guys to hide behind?
I know it’s gonna be very open, and I’m prepared for that. Very prepared. But hey, I’m willing to tell people, finally, through the music, about stuff I’ve been going through. I think the fans wanna know.
You’re still part of one of the most popular bands in the world, so what are you hoping a solo album will achieve for you?
Personally, I’m not really into the whole success thing to the point where I need it to be this huge magnitude or anything. What I really want is (for) it to be successful in my own mind and my heart and in my soul. I’ve been very happy recording it. I’m very positive right now, and all the positive stuff I put into the music. And what I would like to do is bleed through to the fans, so it can possibly make them happy, too. That’s the main goal, for the fans that are still there wanting to listen to new music, I wanna just make them happy. So that’s why I tried to make feel-good music.
Will the songs surprise your fans?
In general, the music’s gonna surprise them. But it’s what influenced me, it’s like a rock feel. I’ve been very influenced by rock since I was very little. I knew I wanted guitars, and I knew I wanted a lot of live music.
How heavy do those guitars get?
They’re not that heavy, I mean it’s not like Metallica. You know what it is? To me it’s a new pop, it’s a new type of pop music that I’m trying to do.
Are there plans to tour the album?
It would be fun, but right now I’m just livin’ day by day and seein’ how it goes. But hey, I’m definitely gonna be promoting it, so that means I’m gonna be going out all around the world and gettin’ down with the fans again.
So you might spend longer in Australia than the 14 hours you were here with the Backstreet Boys in 2000?
Oh, I know (laughs). I’m gonna make sure I get over there.
Did you do things on this album you didn’t know you could?
I didn’t know that I was able to write a song the way I’ve written songs, and I didn’t realise I could sing the way I sang. It was all very eye opening to me, I didn’t expect it. I’m not the kind of person that’s so confident in myself that I can be like, ‘Yeah, I can do this!’. I’ve always been very … I dunno (laughs). I just didn’t expect myself to be able to do something like that.
Stories on the Internet have said other members of the Backstreet Boys are unhappy about you making a solo album. Should we believe any of the rumours?
I don’t know if it’s true. I’ve heard some things about that, but I don’t believe the guys would be like that.
So, by the sound of it, while the band has been on a break, you’ve been taking a complete break from each other as well?
It’s not a break from each, it’s more, I really wanted to do this. And we’re gonna get back in … I’m gonna get back … I would love to get back with them and record some music.
How much work will you be able to put in behind your solo album if two days after it’s released you have to jump back on board with the Backstreet Boys?
Well, I guess that’s why I’m taking everything day by day. ‘Cos I’m really happy doing what I’m doing.

Nick Carter Turns Arond His Life on Heavy Drinking
You thought only one of the Backstreet Boys had problems? Think again. The band's heart-throb, Nick Carter, was hiding his own troubles.
The last few years have been the hardest of Nick Carter's life. He's had problems with his weight, a battle with the booze and he was arrested last January. You'd think the last thing he'd want now is a risky new solo career -- but you'd be wrong. "I coulda ended up like AJ," Nick confides to Sneak. "But my music saved me."
We meet up with Nick in LA where he's promoting his new album and is as happy as we've ever seen him. It's been a long journey but he's now fit, healthy and positive about his future. But to find the root of his problems, we've got to go back to the beginning...
Ruthless people
Nick's been a Backstreet Boy for a whopping ten years and in the spotlight for the last seven. He was 15 when the band released their first record and growing up in the music biz was not a good experience.
"You see some awful things and meet some of the most ruthless people," reveals Nick. "I've seen people who'll hurt someone just for money or for fame. Your trust is just blown out the window."
He found the only way to survive was to retreat inside himself. "I put up a barrier to protect myself," Nick says. "I withdrew into my shell." That shell would take seven more years to break.
So bad
As Nick grew up, his problems grew worse. Everyone knows what happened to his bandmate AJ -- when AJ's gran (who had helped raise him) died, his drinking and depression got so bad he ended up in a clinic. What people don't know is how close Nick was to following him. "It could easily have been met in rehab," Nick says. "God knows how I pulled myself out.
"I'd go on stage, then come off, drink and go partying -- that's what my life consisted of. I'd turned 21 (the legal drinking age in the US) and I didn't know what was going on. I just wanted to hang out and be like all the college kids. You see other people with a life and you think, 'I want that' -- and you party twice as hard."
It was a vicious circle. The more Nick drank, the more depressed he'd get. Something had to give.
Arrest
"On the last tour there were low points," Nick admits. "The things that happened with my arrest (Nick was arrested for 'failing to move on' after an incident outside a club last January), what happened with AJ -- I was starting to go down that road."
And at the time when Nick needed the band's support more than ever, they were busy with other things. "It was difficult, 'cos some of the other guys had their wives [Brian and Kevin both got married last summer] and, naturally, they were trying to pay attention to their own lives. They had their own buses on tour, like a family thing, so I was pretty lonely. I was looking at myself and my health and I was worried. I didn't want to treat my body badly. I wanted to pull myself out of that."
Turning point
But Nick didn't end up in rehab. Which is why, toady, he's i a plush LA hotel by Santa Monica beach (think Baywatch) telling Sneak he's "happier than I've ever been."
So how did he do it? "I didn't stop the partying until I started recording my solo stuff," he says. "Suddenly, it hit me -- I'd found myself again. I'd found a way to release stuff I'd been holding in since I was a kid."
For Nick, putting his thoughts down in music was the turning point -- a way of breaking down the barriers he'd put up as a teenager. "It's been a therapy for me. It made me feel better and proud of myself again.
"I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't gone into the studio to write. It could've been bad. I could have ended up like AJ. Thank God I didn't."
Old Nick
Instead, Nick's on top of the world. "I got the old Nick back," he says, with a grin. "I'm happy, I'm energetic, I love what I'm doing and I'm ready to show the world what I've got. It's like I'm starting again." With that, he gives Sneak a beaming smile, like a man who knows he'd had a very lucky escape.
