Sikhism
The Hari Mandir Sahib(Golden Temple), is a living symbol of the spiritual and historical traditions of the Sikhs. The tank and the temple have been a source of inspiration to the Sikh community ever since its foundation. It is evident from the Sikh chronicles that the Gurus exhorted their followers to accept all Sikh centers as places of pilgrimage. As Sri Hari Mandir Sahib was the first important holy shrine, it became, as the center of inspiration and action and the most significant achievement of the Gurus, the chief place of pilgrimage for the Sikhs.
On June 6, 1984 military tanks stormed the Golden Temple, thousands of Sikhs were killed, and the Akal Takht, the supreme seat of religious authority for the Sikhs was destroyed. On the occassion of the 16th anniversary of the Akal Takht martyrdom all Sikhs of the Guru have the blessing to remember & commemorate the Akal Takht and all those who were martyred so that we can live this Dharma.
Indian Army invaded the Golden Temple, destroying the Akal Takhat, the museum, the historical library, and many other buildings within the complex. Military tanks rolled onto the marble parkarma and the holy and historical Akal Takhat, built by the hands of Guru Hargobind, was attacked by mortar rockets. Thousands of Sikhs were killed in the attack, both peaceful pilgrims and armed defenders. Rivers of blood flowed on the parkarma and the life of every Sikh was changed forever.
The devastating news of the June 6 invasion of the Harimandir Sahib by the Indian Army struck Sikhs all over the world, like a deep knife wound. The Harimandir Sahib and the Sikhs of the Punjab were bound to the heart center of the western Sikhs, and as the horrifying stories came leaking out of Amritsar, hearts all over the world were broken. Copious tears flowed as people wept in disbelief, in shock, in denial, in grief, and in anger. Prayers were offered, but the news turned from bad to worse and it seemed to some that God had turned His face away from the suffering of the Khalsa Nation.
"There is nothing which could happen that is more damaging to the whole of humanity than what has been done in this last week. This doesn't hurt just the Sikhs, don't misunderstand! What has been done to the Sikhs has been done to the entire humanity. The psyche of the world has been totally shaken. The peace of the world has been shattered. Throughout history whenever the Harimandir Sahib has been desecrated, dynasties fell." (Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogi Ji)

THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT
Hindu security men guard the entrance to a building in the holiest Sikh shrine of the Darbar Sahib in Amritsar. It was in this complex where 10,000 innocent pilgrims, most of them women and children, were killed in the infamous Operation Bluestar in June 1984. This was after indian army stormed
The victim, "Bhai Avtar Singh", was subject to indescribable tortures by Indian police. His abdomen was burnt with hot iron, arms were battered during interrogation hot rods were pierced through the soles of his feet and flesh was pulled with the pliers.
Indian Police is free to do any thing as fundamental rights of Sikhs are non-existent in India. All the bus passengers are pulled off buses at hundreds of check points. Sikhs are separated for humiliating body searches and questioning. Those who resist are taken away and shot in what the Indian press call "encounters" or in "attempts to escape".
