The Double Cross Band became an idea in the early months of 2000 by three Rochester New York musicians: Theodore Wolfe, Jamie Shoemaker and Tom Burdick. The basic thought was to create a " New Country Band" with all the right things: Good Harmony, Great Attitudes, Good Musicians and Great Material. In April it happened. Not over night, but just the same it became a reality. Added to the 3 guys already in Double Cross, Steve Waldo and Jim Thompson stepped aboard. A few months down the road Francine Miller was added to expand the material to the female side of Country Music. However, in the latter part of the same year, Jamie Shoemaker, of his own decision had taken leave from the band. Replacing Jamie was hard at first but, with a little searching a new member was found. Dave Taney would be Jamies replacement . Dave was with the band until February of 2002, as Dave was leaving us a special freind from the past became available to fill Daves postion. "Jamie" ... Yepper he's Back!!!
In July of 2000, Double Cross took the stage with 20 other local bands from the region with hopes to gain the title of " Best Country Band " A local Radio Station WBEE 92.5 FM and The Roost Country Nightclub & BBQ Hosted a Competition based on performance, material, and overall sound. The Competition was great and in the end every band new that they did their best. Double Cross was the youngest of all 20 bands and as stated above everything that this band was based on was put to the test. It paid off, Double Cross and its members took runner up to a Local Band out of Buffalo, a sister city of Rochester. Yes, out of 20 great bands of the Western New York Region, Double Cross took 2nd place. For them it was a great accomplishment considering the Band was only months old.
Many Gigs had become available to Double Cross; fairs , night clubs, and special parties. The schedule for this band filled up quickly, infact jobs were turned away. As the band continued along things only became better. The harmonies sent chills down the backs of its own members at practice. The music became strong and there was a feeling of pride in them all. The band became more successful each and every job and gig they performed. It seemed that every club they played asked them back for more and the people loved the band. A fan club was created by a loyal follower and it exceeds the bands imagination. The Double Cross fans are loyal and continue to be at almost every gig played. In November of 2000 the first CD of the Bands was recorded. It carries 8 songs, 7 cover tunes and 1 original. It was done live at PJ's Lounge. The purpose of the CD was for a Demo, However the fans of Double Cross demanded it for themselves.
It is now 2001 and the band is still moving right along. The jobs are continuos and the band only get better and better. August 24th of this year Double Cross opened up for Nashville recording Artist Cindi Thomson , The Warren Brothers and Hank William's 3rd. Also in August Double Cross had the opportunity to help a great charity raise some needed funds, The Ronald McDonald House of Rochester, It was a fun event and we would gladly do it again. In November of this year we did a fundraiser for Camp S.O.A.R, I love doing things like this, its always good to lend a hand... Double Cross hopes to expand their schedule for 2002 to other clubs in the surrounding towns ,cities and states.
