Nhât-Viêt Phi, alias "Toto"

This name is of Vietnamese orgin. The accepted English pronunciation for over three decades has been "nat veeyet fee." However, a closer approximation is "neeyuht veeyet," with the Nhât inclined upwards and the Viêt inclined downwards. The hyphenated first name is inseparable (so don't come around calling me "Natt"!) and means "one Vietnam," symbolizing the dream of a single unified country.

During the French colonization of Vietnam, "Toto" was a common name for pets. Connection: Mr. Phi was born in the Year of the Dog.

Angela Mosher Phi

"Mosher" is pronounced "moe-zher." We have decided consciously not to hyphenate these two family names because it doesn't sound quite right.

Isaac Kiên-Viêt Phi

isaac: from the Hebrew for 'laughter'.
Alternatives: Ike, Zach, Isaak, Yitzchak, Isak.
Namesakes: Yitsak Rabin, Isaac Stern, Isaac Newton, Isak Denison, Isaac Hayes.

"Kiên-Viêt" is pronounced "keeyun veeyet." Like the father's name, Kiên goes up and Viêt goes down.
