Jodie Foster
Biography
Jodie Foster was born Alicia Christian Foster on November 19, 1962 in Los Angeles California. Her father left while Jodie wasn't even born yet, leaving his wife and Jodie's mother Evelyn to raise the children all by herself. Soon Evelyn quit being a Hollywood publicist to manage the acting careers of her children, full-time. At a young age Jodie started appearing in suntan lotion television comercials. By the age of 8 she was already featured in 40 comercials. She soon started doing feature length motion pictures. When she was 14 she landed a role in Martin Scorsese's TAXI DRIVER in which she played a twelve year old prostitute. This part got Jodie her first OSCAR nomination. But, during the rest of the seventies she was involved in a few movies,but, none as good as TAXI DRIVER.
Soon, Jodie put her movie career on hold to attend Yale. While she attended Yale she did do a couple forgettable movies. After Graduation in 1985, she was in several box office and critical disapointments. But, in 1988 she was nominated for BEST ACTRESS for her role in THE ACCUSED and she won! After THE ACCUSED she did a Dennis Hopper movie called BACKTRACK. But it was the movie after BACKTRACK that got all the attention. That movie was called THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. In LAMBS Jodie plays an FBI agent trying to track down a serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. For that movie she was nominated at the OSCARS for BEST ACTRESS and that year she won her second OSCAR.
After her OSCAR winning performance she directed and starred in LITTLE MAN TATE. She began a string of acclaimed movies like SOMMERSBY and MAVERICK.
Than in 1994 her production company EGG PICTURES released a movie Foster acted in called NELL. Foster was nominated at the OSCARS for BEST ACTRESS but lost to Jessica Lange. In 1995 HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS was directed and produced by Foster. The film starred Holly Hunter and Robert Downey J.r.. She just recently starred in the sci-fi flick CONTACT, which I believe will rank up some well deserved OSCAR nominations.
