Last summer, Motorsport Simulations, Inc. (MSI) dropped a note in r.a.s. teasing us with "great things to come." Well, they've now let the cat out of the bag with their announcement of "AMA Superbike: Virtual Pro Racing."
AMA will have a 14 degree-of-freedom (DOF) and MSI said "this has the bike frame translating and rotating in six degrees-of-freedom with additional DOF's for wheel suspension motion and wheelspin (allowing modeling of important motorcycle gyro effects and tire skidding, etc.). The model also includes an engine rotation DOF, as well as rotation of the steering assembly and rider body pitch and lean."
Tracks will be handcrafted through actual blueprints, and other noted features are racing against 30 AI riders, and that the sim will be made available both in-box and online.
It's interesting to note that MSI wrote at length about "...AMA Superbike's online community..." which makes us very interested indeed! With the recent online successes of GPL and Viper, it looks like software companies are taking a hard look at what we want in a sim.
