" The most prestigious and physically challenging car race in the world is coming to the Sony PlayStation and PC platforms in “Le Mans 24 Hours.” The first title of a five-year exclusive license, Infogrames Entertainment’s visually stunning endurance racer, arriving this summer, offers players the ultimate in racing action, including 24 hours of real time game play.
To insure the highest level of authenticity, Infogrames licensed not only the Le Mans name, but also the race teams, race circuits and right to incorporate the official ?Automobile Club de l’Quest (ACO) rules. Statistics from the performance of the 24 race teams and precise technical details about 48 cars that competed in the 1998 race in Le Mans, France were collected to accurately recreate the real event.

The race course, which includes downtown city driving, a long straightaway stretch where driving speed in the factory-modified cars can reach 230 mph and a nearly 180 degree hairpin turn at the end, has been reproduced in a 3D environment with photo-realistic texture maps that come to within an inch of the true specifications.

“The design team’s goal was to make ‘Le Mans 24 Hours’ as realistic as possible,” Rick Reynolds, director, product marketing, Sports & Motorsports Division, Infogrames Entertainment, Inc., said. “As players are drawn deeper and deeper into the game, they will notice incredibly realistic details like the need to turn on headlights as the sun gradually sets and darkness closes in -- all the while tearing down the track at incredible speed.”

“Le Mans 24 Hours” allows fans to control every aspect of the race. In addition to cornering the sharp turns and throttling down the Mulsanne straightaway, players outfit the car before the race, make tune ups in the pits and direct the crew as the team manager.

Retrogressive and collision damage simulate the wear and tear that occurs over the 24 hour race, which forces drivers to make split second decisions to head for the pits for a tune up or try one more lap on the track to stretch the lead. Driving and lighting conditions change to simulate changing weather conditions as well as the passage of night to day.

Super-high resolution graphics of 512x240 display the action on the PlayStation. The PC version plays optimally with 3Dfx acceleration (3Dfx Voodoo II recommended).

Infogrames’ license is the first interactive entertainment agreement issued by the ACO for the prestigious annual racing event.

Developed by Eutechnyx, “Le Mans 24 Hours” will be available this summer from Infogrames Entertainment on the Sony PlayStation and PC platforms, just in time for the debut of a Le Mans licensed racing series in cities across the U.S."
